Lets get one thing clear here Queen / Adam Lambert are like Spinal Tap now and you cannot take them serious anymore, who could with the gormless Lambert on a small bicycle been immature and then he lies down on a sofa, fan in hand waving it about like some drag queen wearing 6 inch heels singing Killer Queen! This group has turned into national embarrassment and i am not bothered what you all think Lambert does not fit this band at all.
He would suit Scissor Sisters or form a band with Alan Carr. lol
Freddie did have bad nights on tour but come on give the guy a break he was constantly touring every night year in year out and no one can be perfect every night, and if they are then they are not working very hard to entertain the audiences. Lambert fans continue to disrespect us Freddie supporters and they think Lambert is better , well when Lambert writes the greatest single ever written like Freddie did with Bohemian Rhapsody then i may sit up and listen! Up to now Lambert has not got anything to crow about, and all he is doing is singing Queen's greatest karaoke hits, big deal for such a mediocre singer.

See, this is what I don't get. Why do you have to write the music to be an amazing singer and for you to sit up and listen? The greatest voices in opera and other genres of musical don't write the music. Opera singers sing music from past geniuses and interpret the music with their instrument, the voice. Are you going to say that Pavarotti was no great shakes because he didn't write the score? To me that makes no sense. Adam has one of the finest technical voices out there. I have read too many discussions and articles that state that. What he can do with his voice is amazing and he can do what many opera singers can't. I love his voice and I am a huge fan of classical and heavy metal where you have to have a big powerful voices that can span octaves . Trust me, in the live setting Adam's voice soars throughout the building and he is holding the mic far away. His voice is not thin as you think and it is always those who haven't heard him live that characterize his voice that way. I think a voice is like any musical instrument which has to be learned and practiced to make it the best thing it can be and I think Adam has one of the finest instruments out there. Sure Freddie was a genius, but it didn't necessarily enhance his voice, which I think was way weaker than his writing. I understand what you are saying, but I can laud a voice even without the person having written the music. I also can't call this karaoke hits when Brian, Roger and Spike are still there. That is a huge insult and one that isn't fair at all. It would only be karaoke if it is a different band entirely.

Snifflesse : These days many artists get there songs written for them as they are crap at doing that, and Adam is one of these because he is not a dynamic as you seem to be pointing out and not original at all singing in a 70 s rock group. If he had any substance he would be out there working solo and doing his own original work.
Hiding behind two rock gods is his lazy way of making the money and he knows it. Freddie wrote all his own music and learnt to play piano all by himself, which is a great thing because he is multi talented and if you have never heard Freddie hold a note and smash the stadium roofs down then check out Live Aid 1985. Adam has had 3 worldwide sold out solo tours and is probably the only American Idol alum who can say that. The QAL live streams are pretty much provided by Adam fans and his fans from all over the world tune in and chime in to say hello.

Caroline: I think anyone could front U2 as they are crap full stop. Bono can not sing for toffee anyway and he is a little Dwarf but he will never be legendary like Lennon, McCartney, Mercury, Bowie, Marc Bolan etc.......... Adam may be great at his own material and i wish he would branch out and get on with it.
Queen are struggling without Freddie & John and ok they still sell tickets but lets face it the show does not feel the same, there is something missing that makes it look awkward.

You are listening to the wrong songs from Adam. Those were from the American Idol days which is now 9 years ago. His voice has deepened and strengthened in that time and it isn't so over the top with huge high runs. I still don't believe that you have to write your own music to be relevant. And if you do, it often means your voice may not be the best. Look at Taylor Swift (who I can't stand). She writes her own stuff and is wildly popular and I find her music trite and her voice ridiculously awful. Writing music does not make you a superior singer. Freddie's voice just doesn't appeal to me much in concert. Sorry, but that is how I feel. I love their recorded music, but concerts not so much! I like clean, classically trained voices and a voice that is consistent concert after concert. For my tastes Adam fills the bill. He can't go in and change the songs to make them his own. He has to stay within the Queen parameters, but there are subtle differences that he can switch up without being disrespectful. One little example is the doo wap ending on Radio Gaga. I think that is wonderful. His ballads such as Save Me, Love Kills and WWTLF are masterful. He
definitely is better on songs like that, but the rock stuff is infinitely superior to how he sounded in the first concert in Russia in 2012, I believe. It is slowly evolving the more the band plays together. I am sure the first few years with Freddie concerts weren't always great and Adam is not a full time band person. They have much less time to work on things than Queen did back in the day. I can't think of a singer in the world who can handle the whole catalog in the original key and sounds consistently wonderful concert after concert after concert. I think listening to Freddie sing with that female opera singer was beyond painful.

He isn't difficult to work with according to the folks who have done so, including Brian and Roger who use the word easy. I imagine after dealing with a Diva like Freddie, Adam must be a pleasant change. I am sure worrying about what your lead singers mood was like or if he was wasted might make it hard to have fun with your concerts. Freddie, according to everything I have seen or read, was not an easy person to deal with. Everybody likes something different and some folks abhor change. Great post, snifflese! I love that everyone in the QAL corroboration are having fun both on stage and off! It helps to have a great sense of humor and not take yourself seriously.
Snifflesse: Firstly Freddie was superb with Montserrat Caballe and it was the first time ever that a rock singer had crossed over from rock n roll to opera and he made a great job of Barcellona , his voice was powerful and montserrat just adored Freddie so much that they decided to record an album together. I think we are coming to the end of this thread as everything has been said here.

He has seen Freddie, Paul and Adam. I thought it interesting that he finds Adam a better fit than Paul. Interesting read!

I bought all their records and loved them, although Brian and then Roger were my favs. I have followed them for over 45 years, so that does make me a fan!
As far as opera, we will have to respectfully disagree as to how successful Freddie was. I think it was more the novelty of it than that it was well sung. I have included a link of the Prayer of Adam's singing " The Prayer" which is quite beautiful and kind of an operatic/ classical song. If it doesn't work, it is him singing with Noa Dori. I think Adam would have made big bucks as an opera singer. I love him singing music like this!! The video following this is an excerpt from Brigadoon which is probably my favorite song from him. Try that one! That is what I would love to hear from him!

Why do we "discuss" on here? Reading Statements like "Freddie was not so good live" (which means AL is a better fit than Freddie - wtf????) or the Statement "Freddie was a DIva" - just utter bollox. Every true Queen Fan knows that Freddie might have had a Diva Image but he was the glue that kept it together. He was the one in the Studio that helped stopping the fights. For most QUeenfans this is Freddies best vocal performance by far ony any Album (including all Queen Albums). What are you Smoking?
