I only found the previous thread yesterday. I was up, literally, all night reading. I finally found the last page, read that it was all over and was terribly disappointed until I read further to realize this would take its place. Perfect timing.
I am mostly at a loss for words over my amazement and joy in Mr. Arnold's kindness and openness. Freddie found an intelligent and loyal friend.

Lee was the creative source behind the whole making and displaying of the fruit hat. I will let him tell you about that.

Not to start with a story about me, but here goes. #1 Freddie’s got a huge kick out of the fruit hat. I brought it with me the last time Thor and I visited the Garden Lodge together, and put it on after dinner one night when we went up to say goodnight to Freddie. I had it left over from when I use to direct Singing Waiters on Cape Cod. It was my version of the fruit hat Carmen Miranda wore in The Lady with the Tutti Frutti hat.......except that mine lit up. I had to attach the girl singing to a 20 foot extension cord, as she re-enacted the song before amazed diners. It was upgraded to a battery pack for the visit to London in 91. I’ll try and find a photo of Ms Miranda on line to post. Then, when I have the guts, I’ll post one of me in it. HA!
