Let me begin by saying that I have neither written this to fan the flames, nor do the group of Lambert zealots I refer to belong to the majority of the Q+AL fanbase. In all honesty, these people I speak of are a vocal minority that probably don’t even live in harmony with the rest of Adam’s core fan base. And in fairness, there exist Queen fans on the opposite side of the spectrum that congregate on websites such as this. I have only put this discussion here because it is fresh in my mind and because I think it should be on the record. I’ve been a Queen fan since 1977 and I have never held any collaboration for which the band has chosen to partake in contempt. Please keep all this in mind before contributing to the discussion. Thanks in advance to all those willing to partake in a fair-minded conversation.

The “zealots” I am referring to are pro-Adam, anti-Freddie-at-all-costs folks – and they are people I have witnessed firsthand, in the flesh, on several occasions. These people truly take pleasure in screaming “READY ADAM!” in hordes during CLTCL. They boo loudly when Adam makes his spiel about “not being Freddie.” They play on their cell phones during LOML but are singing loudest, and chastising others who don’t, during Two Fux (I’m not a fan of the song myself, hence my handle, but I certainly didn’t deny others’ enjoyment when it was played). They complain when Freddie makes his (or “made his”, now that this practice has largely changed since the last tour) appearances on tape. And, mind you, these instances are representative of situations that I have witnessed in-person and not even including the trolls on the web who slander nostalgic fans as “pussies” for saying they miss the past, or that WWTLF is anyone’s song but Adam’s. We, as members of the Queen fan sites, may be direct observers of anti-Lambert sentiments on here, but to say that the opposite doesn’t exist is reasonably disingenuous.

Yes, in arguably most folks’ minds, the voice of Queen belongs to one person: that man tragically passed away over 26 years ago. The music certainly hasn’t died and has been the soundtrack to a lot of people’s lives, including mine and most likely to many of yours. Brian and Roger have found an avenue to keep Queen an active touring entity. Surely Adam’s presence has introduced the music to some of a generation’s worth of fans, but he is not single-handedly responsible for it either. The choice for Brian and Roger to tour with anybody besides Freddie, legend or otherwise, will undoubtedly be met with polarized responses; frankly that is the nature of the legacy this band left. Adam may not be responsible for carrying “British rock in the royal tradition” by himself, but he should not be written off for his role either (and the same goes for Paul Rodgers).

If you and your contributions to the real world or the internet simply exist to chastise the people who disagree with you, then I highly suggest you heed the advice of a certain prolific Bulsara. There must be more to life than this.

Interesting post and I mostly agree with what you said.
I can only add, that I didn‘t witness the kind of behavior of Adam-fans, that you described, at my shows in London. A few screamers, but they „behaved“, when their idol wasn‘t on stage. ;-)

Most sensible post this forum has seen in AGES. Bravo.

Oh, yeah, my post totally wasn't meant to be a knock on the AL fan group as a whole, but I just wanted to get this off of my chest. Glad you found it interesting. :)

I came back to this pussy pit assuming that this post was directed at me and my kind. Fact of the matter is that besides Adam joining Queen Two Fux was probably the best thing happen to the band since Freddie's death.

Having trouble taking your meds I reckon....

LOL. So much dumbness and fucked upness in one post.
Why don't you crawl back under the rock you came from...and stay there. You are a troll. And a horrible one at that.

Very well stated. Kudos.
I've come across some very entitled Glamberts online since this began. What gets me is that I wouldn't even call some of them Queen/Freddie fans. Hearing Dear Friends for the first time recently? Forgetting ITTWC at Live Aid? Hmm.
Some don't care about the Freddie and Queen legacy...it doesn't want to be heard or recongized by some Glamberts, because they think it takes away from AL.
Brian and Roger are pretty much ALs backing band to some AL fans. Yep, actually read posts and comments of that nature. Those two guys are means to and end in getting AL's name out there for some Glamberts.
Freddie dare I mention him in Q+AL threads, without a Glambert being insulted? As long as Q+AL gets good reviews from the tabloids that hounded Freddie, the good reviews the only thing that matters now, because Freddie was so yesterday, don't ya know.
It tells me everything I need to know when some Glamberts come to Queen boards to promote and defend AL. It's just how some promote and defend him is mind boggling. I've seen plenty of it through the years.
I know there are some awesome people in the AL fanbase. I've seen the opposite too.

Dear god, did you actually read the post. It's comments like this that give genuine QAL fans a bad name and is a perfect example of what twofuxsux just said.

TwoFuxSux

One of the most unbiased and fair posts I've seen on here.

I have to say I didn't witness anything like that at the show I went to, but I was sat to the side of the walkway a few rows back, and there were a few screaming occasionally near the front standing area. I'm glad I wasn't near anyone doing stuff like that, I can't believe people would be so disrespectful.

How diabolical do you have to be to stage your comeback in this fashion? You are abhorrent. Take that with you as your trophy for your YouTube comments.

Thanks to you all (or most, anyway) for your responses.

I'm genuinely curious as to what SweetCaroline would say about this. And it's not that I want to see her get flamed in this thread, I just want to honestly know what she thinks about this group of people (i.e. pankakesnotstellar and her ilk).

She didn't think prankakestellor was tearing down Freddie in one of the other threads prankakestellor started awhile back. That tells me sweetcaroline doesn't have a problem with it. Maybe even agrees with it.
Thing is, if someone said what prankakestellor is saying about Freddie, and it was said about AL, she wouldn't be pleased to say the least. She would be bleat on about certain people being negative and a hater. I've never read any posts by her that disagrees with a fellow AL fan. But for her to say prankakestellor wasn't tearing Freddie down in the other thread, when it was obviously happening...you have your answer right there GUG ;-).

Interesting post. The Adam fans of which you speak are few and far between, at least in the US. I have been to MANY Adam concerts and MANY QAL concerts as well and have never witnessed this behavior. The real and original stereotypical Glamberts (of which I am one), are by and large middle-aged and slightly older women. We live around the country and meet up at shows. Although we do scream (loudly) when Adam performs, we are very respectful and very much enjoy watching Brian and Roger perform and listening the Queen music. Many of the original Glamberts are also Queen fans. I don't doubt that this behavior occurs in some areas. Let's face it. You see all kinds of behavior at concerts.
