What was the real reason behind the sharing of credits behind Miracle... or a fresh look into this album....
I use to believe that it was a brave comming together as a band because of Freddie and with regards to the limited time he had left the final hurragh and a comming together as one big happy family .....
But more I read on various sites....more I believe it was more because of the early to mid 80s and how much the band had fallen apart through egos and arguments and wanting to do their own work to forfill their artistic differences hence the only way they could really make it work was to share credits to the rest of the band...
Who exactly came up with the initial idea how did the band respond initially... was it at the beginning or during the middle of the album sessions.... If it was Freddies illness.. means that the band knew he was sick Jan 88.... Contrary to the band members finding out later on...
When you see new docos it was because he was sick and it was a comming together as a band but older docos and various articles suggests it was more to do with egos and realising the solo career was a lot harder than thought let's just eliminate the ego thing and everyone is the creator.....

In all likelihood it was Jim Beach
If one of the band suggested the idea, I would think it would have been dumped on from on high but we'll never know

So basically, after seeing some docos, reading various sites, and a deep thinking process, you end up believing the same thing you already believe - less ego because of Freddie's illness.
A full load of crapos my friend.

Note: There had been semi-collective songwriting before. Notably on The Works and AKOM. It could just be a natural progression.

Exactly what I thought it would have been....
John Deacon for example two co-credits on magic and another what... five co-credits . Brian and Roger machines... If we went with the comaradery Freddie being sick... the band would have found out the moment they started work on the album as aspposed to finding out halfway through or towards the end of the album sessions like from what I feel we are led to understand during the recent docos or interviews.
But definitely interesting regards to the evolving songwriting process and behind the scenes leading up to deciding on the shared credits.
One must thought... for arguments sake... John/Freds two co-written songs magic and Roger/Brian's machines Brians/Freds world we created and also Freddies arrangements of Rogers songs Magic and Gaga... "Why are we still bothering with this soul creator when we have been hepling each other out for selected songs from the last two albums...? Makes sense to come together as one and be more productive..... Yeah just one of those "Queen" myths that sorta gets distorted a bit too much...

Queen as a whole you gotta admit if full of mystery with many distorted truths and what she said he said and now it's all fact because he said she said....

Prob Freddie's illness. Prob Fred's idea to make sure everybody got a "lot" from the recordings. They were collectively facing the end of a contract as well in EMI USA.
After all, there had to have been some suspicions when Fred penned a song calling for "THE MIRACLE" we're all waiting for today. Not to offend or be one of the morbid AIDS mongers on here... but I believe much of the sentiment behind that AND possibly the song TIME (written by close friend Dave Clark) were written of the sentiment that time was possibly fading on the band. I would guess it was Freddie, then Jim Beach and Freddie's decision later pulling in Brian to be diplomat. But I don't know. It hasn't fully been explained eh?
Doubt it was to make sure everyone got a lot of cash. The majority of their cash even today comes from recordings prior to those albums.

Everyone puts 100% into everything. Simple. No one gets precious about their own stuff. Perfectly explained by Brian on the train, he also said it is something they should have done years ago and he was right.

Yes, I often find Brian is in his best, most talkative mood on the train home from work. Oftentimes, he will offer me a bite of his egg, cheese, and ketchup sandwich. I politely decline. .

it probably made arguments about which songs should be singles much easier if everyone knew they were going to get an equal share of the glory (or money). probably also in the light of freddie not being very well and them not knowing how long he had to live, it would have made working a little bit easier as well.
I dunno why they did it to be honest, especially as these days when you see the songs from the Miracle and Innuendo listed on anything they put the original writer's name as the writer and not Queen, so for instance Show Must Go On and I Want It All are now credited to Brian May, Days of Our Lives to Roger, Miracle to Freddie, etc. I'm not sure if now that they've sorted out the finances so that the writing royalties all go to the original writer or if they just wanted to set the record straight with how these songs were written.

Freddie's dead and John's not arsed anymore.

I haven't seen Miracle or Innuendo songs credited to individual writers on anything official.

I'm trying to remember the announcements that has on show at the fan club convention in 1989 where The Miracle was debuted.
(Has anyone got copies of these?)
I think the collaboratve credits was because someone brought an idea for a song into the studo and the final version ended up very different so they felt the collaborative effort reflected the input more accurately.
It also prevented people being too precious about their own songs and pushing for singles etc.
Years later I supposed it was also due to Freddie's illness.
It's hardly something that had to be decided on day one in the studio in January 1988.
