Queen Movie PR Campaign

It seems like that the PR campaign is getting a little bit hotter. Obviously print space was booked in several magazines.
On this one things are gathered up the superficial way.

In short : Freddie left the band for his solo stuff - comes back before a real band split and managed them, despite he is diagnosed with AIDS, to perform at Live Aid.

I`am speechless again.

Yep - classic Hollywood. Few biopics are fully accurate.

But this would be a hell of a case of revisionist history if that's the case.

Let's wait to see the film.

This "revisionist history" was allowed by Brian "We need to get experimental" May?

We'd need to be invited to meetings and see legal documents before we can know whose sway is bigger - the band or Hollywood.

Just checked that. It seems to be the "official" PR version.

Bohemian Rhapsody is a foot-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury. Freddie defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet. The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound. They reach unparalleled success, but in an unexpected turn Freddie, surrounded by darker influences, shuns Queen in pursuit of his solo career. Having suffered greatly without the collaboration of Queen, Freddie manages to reunite with his bandmates just in time for Live Aid. While bravely facing a recent AIDS diagnosis, Freddie leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music. Queen cements a legacy that continues to inspire outsiders, dreamers and music lovers to this day.

Thanks for that article Musicland.

Yes, it's consistent with the official synopis that came out a short while ago.

I am seriously worried that the movie is going to suck big time based on:

The official synopsis;
The trailers;
Peter's session with the Dutch fans;
The soundtrack.

It may suck based on what you need from the film. Casual fans I know are pumped, and I'm excited for them!

Taking into consideration, how long this project has been under way, I'm of the belief that it's the former.

Based on things Brian said near the end of filming I'd say Hollywood. This is a quote from him back in March.

"This is an interesting experience for Roger and me because we have so little power. To get the movie made you basically sign away all your control."

So they mortgaged some historical accuracy for longevity.

A fair trade off. That's the nature of biopics - nobody can escape it.

Well it's a Hollywood movie, not a history lesson. As long as the music will be loud and the movie itself is diverting I am happy. For everything else we have Magic Years, Champions of the World, The Great Pretender, the untold story etc.

It's just a bloody movie, but people here will go in riot for every little snipped which is not the official story.

You make good points. And it's nice to have a bit of debate.

The main thing I need is dramatisations of the key events in the group's history. And I'd like them to be accurate and give us new insights.

First meetings, recordings of key songs, was there stress when recording Queen II as they needed a hit or else they could have folded?
Was there stress before The Works as they needed a hit. Why decide to record in the US for the first time? as a few examples.

And how did the others react when Freddie told them he wanted to be called Mercury!

I need it to be well-acted and a quality production.

I don't understand the need to recreate Live Aid in full. We can watch it on youTube anytime we like. I need the dramatisations.

What I feel so far is, as well as the massive liberties we have discussed, is - the recordings of Bo Rhap and Rock You played for laughs, the dramatisations we have seen not adding to what we know, a lot of tv-actors with a tv-movie feel to the trailers, Brian's songs over represented on the soundtrack.

THAT offical synopsis!

I know you are excited for casual fans. I hope you are ready for all family, friends and colleagues you know asking you 'So Freddie knew he had aids before Live Aid?' and you having to say 'No, he didn't'.

PS - On a lighter note - Do you think the crowdsurfing scene was inspired by Mamma Mia 2?!!
