I had recently watched the making of-bits from the promo-video-shoot for Days Of Our Lives again and found the appearance of Dave Clark in those pictures slightly annoying. He somehow doesn't really fit into Freddie's circle of friends, yet he obviously became more important to Freddie than Starker in his last years. Do any of you good people have any real knowledge on the bond between Freddie and Clark? I know all about Time etc. But I don't get the reason why Freddie felt the need to have Clark to be with him, as Clark always seemed to be a bit boring. I somewhere read that Clark might be a closeted gay man. That could be a clue, but neither Jim nor Phoebe made any real fuss in their books about Clark. Yet, he popped up all the time in certain situations with Freddie at the close of the 80's...

I have mixed feelings about him. He's gone all over the press saying he was the only one with Freddie when its been disputed by Phoebe and Jim. He also treated his former bandmates like shit.
I think he's gay (he's said in interviews he's "too busy" for a wife. Sure) and found solace in hanging out with other gay people in addition to Freddie's wonderful personality.
It's interesting how he isn't mentioned all that much by those who were actually there. Was he there during the final weeks as much as he says he was?

Yeah. To me he always looked like a hanger-on.
If he really is gay, it's no wonder that he's too busy for a wife.
Besides, what possible wife would have Dave Clark as her husband? The guy is really not an eye-catcher, is he?

Apparently he and Freddie truly were close friends for whatever reason. I have no opinion on him, he never gets mentioned.
But he surely looks curious these days.

Also do you think he has extra Freddie material in the Time archives? Other than demos and takes of the tracks we know of, there is the live performance at the Dominion Theater with at least the one soundboard recording of Everyone Of Us which never made it to any Freddie Boxsets or compilations to date. What's he got in there?

He surely holding tight of all Mercury footage. Maybe it's this year to cash in?

Freddie can't be friends with somebody just because you consider them too boring? Are you serious? Do you even know Dave Clark? And even if he's not "flamboyant" who the fuck cares. What matters is what's in his heart instead of whether he looks good alongside Freddie according to your standards.

He was an eye-catcher in the early 60 with dave clark five band and later quite succesful as an producer. Today with all the plastic surgery done he looks like a fired pirate from the Johnny Depp films

From Jim's book I concluded that Dave Clark and Freddie were good friends, that he was coming in Garden Lodge for birthdays, Christmas ...
Just in the book Jim says Dave was the only person (who was not live in the house) who came every day in the last Freddie's days to spend time with him.

I think Dave Clarke was indeed a gay man, but not openly "out" but why should he.
He did seem to be very close to Freddie from around 1986 to the final days of Freddie's life.
A nice guy and Freddie seemed to get on with him very well.

Queen3: Why should he have been out? Because personal freedom is all about being open and being true to yourself. Are you sure that you want to support the ongoing self-denial-scheme with its same old statements like it's a private thing, it doesn't matter etc. If it really does not matter, why wouldn't be more people out? As long as there are Neonazis in this world, there is indeed a need to come out and show them that we exist and that we will not be obliged by them fuckers.

Gay people, should not be treated any differently than anyone else, because, they are PEOPLE !
I'm not gay, but, I had a couple gay co-workers once, there was no difference in the way they did their work, the way they interacted with others, we had normal conversations, about the same things everyone talks about, because, they are just, people, like everyone else.... some people don't seem to get that.

You paint a rather boring picture of gay people. Same, same, same. To quote the great Frank Zappa again: „Gay people do stuff other people don't like“. I could get graphic now, but I fear to howling of the straight majority here. In principle, though, you're right, For Freddie. And you know that I love you for that. But let me assure you that I would look at you differently than you're straight co-worker would do. If you were a man, that is, of course.
