I've wanting to know for a while, how many concerts survive in soundboard form in Queens archive, the bootlegs there is over 280 odd concerts surviving in that form but how many concerts survive in the archive through soundboard recording. could someone with more know how of the bands archive history answer this question for I cannot seem to find too much information on the subject thank you

The story goes that there are stereo sbd tapes of nearly every show from 1974 onward (although it has also been said that their FOH guy recorded the gigs from day one).
As plenty of bands do, they recorded their gigs for reference, usually to listen to in the limo on the way back to the hotel.

I think we'd all love to know what's in the vaults. Unfortunately we'll probably never find out!

@The Real Wizard: Wasn't it denied by Gary ? (They supposedly cannot locate these tapes)

And there was the list that Greggy Boy provided some time back too that provided very little of worth is existance. Other than that TFFMS had never been recorded......

We've heard all sorts of stories through the years, nothing proven either way to the best of my knowledge (unless there's SB shows being circulated between the elite collectors).
There's been a few big clangers over the years: Greg stated that TFFMS had never been recorded - only for it to surface on the Rainbow box a few years ago; I *think* (although possibly wrong) they said that Sleeping on the Sidewalk hadn't been recorded (only for it to appear on the NOTW box) and Brian said that "It's A Hard Life" had never been played live (except for that entire tour in 1984 and many '85 shows).
There's a number of possibilities: 1 - they don't know their arse from their elbow; 2 - they know full well what is in the archive and plan some surprises or 3 - they know full well what is in the archives, and we'll never know.
IMO, it's a mix of 1 and 3.
I'd love to hear much more live stuff in awesome quality, but I'm also grateful for what we do have.

Brian both knows and (understandably) forgets a lot. It's interesting that he mentioned there's a lot more with Bowie than we know of, yet we already know they recorded an early "I Go Crazy"-like song titled "I Don't Want To Be A Rolling Stone" as well as a number of rock covers they seemingly recorded around that time according to Ratty. No properly mixed recordings, but still...
And then again, he forgot about It's A Hard Life and seems to think that '39 was recorded in 1976.

Greg made a half arsed list of stuff "worth releasing", therefore it was (I think), mostly opinion based and mostly stuff we knew about.
Since then Greg and Gary have dug up a few nice gems which were not known about, even by them...... The Fairy Fellers Master Stroke being one.

Greg once said something to the effect " a shitload more than anyone dreamed of" but those recordings have no audience sound, just desk , so not suitable for release

I don't want to hear the audience anyway! I want the music!

When did Greg ever say there are a shitload of soundboard recordings?
I know an administrator from queenonline stated this as a fact (which is good news) and the fact they were able to present us Sleeping on the sidewalk from a soundboard recording further affirms this.
No doubt there are a lot of goodies in the archive… It's beyond sad they once chose to do a 100 best of the bootlegs which was a total flop because of the poor execution.
I think having a 20 concerts (or even better 50 or 100 :-) ) soundboard series with 2 released each year would be perfect. They could present us with things like LA 22-12-77 and if they decide to give us something less exclusive they offer us Slane, Manchester or Newcastle '86 ;-)
Sadly, this kind of series is not on the agenda. They deem these recording (all astounding I'm sure) not good enough.

Keep on dreaming people. Brian and Roger are less and less interesting in archival releases such as an anthology set we all crave for for decades now. But they also forget the fans are getting older as well. But as things look right now i doubt i will live to see a rarities boxset like the 3 Beatles boxes released. They just don't care about it. They rather go on a greatest hits tour with Adam. And since they are forgetting facts, dates and more, maybe now it's understandable that they think they've played Fat Bottomed Girls in 1974 lol.
And let's be honest. We're getting even greater gems through this place.

On My Way Up - they should release a top 20 (or better, 50 or 100) soundboard series at 2 per year?
Say they did 100 - that would be 50 years! Or 50....25 years!!!! Bloody hell mate, you've got some patience ;) :p

I expect to live long :-)
And i'm young, just 33 years old.
And now nothing happens so 2 each year would be so much better than what we get now.
