i'm sure they could do something with the corresponding audience sounds from audience boots?

Sure, they could fly in audience noise from some other show, which may well be what they did for Sleeping On The Sidewalk on the NOTW box set. It does sound a bit unnatural.
That recording and the others Greg was speaking about were just done on two track reel to reel tape, just for reference. They probably have hundreds of them, from about 1975 onward.
There's no audience on them because it's just a raw mix of the stage mics done on the fly. There's only audience noise on live recordings (i.e. live albums) when extra mics are specifically placed on the audience. Otherwise what little audience noise is heard just comes from the vocal and drum mics.

I was meaning the corresponding bootlegs for each sbd gig they have in the archive.
it wouldn't even be such a huge job as the two tapes should line up.

In a perfect world we would have been getting digital downloads of some soundboard recordings (or "official bootlegs" from tape in lesser quality) every year. Just for the hardcore fans, you know, it's not like Queen Prod. is out of money anytime soon.
Too bad they couldn't care less about the Queen fans from the way back (or even new ones that are interested in rarities). And it will stay that way, unless you storm Jim Beach's "QP" Area 51 warehouse and steal everything, including Brian's "sport model" flying saucer.

QP Area 51 lol :) Before anything rare comes out there will be another monopoly or puzzle. As long as uncritical fansheep live this London guy or Bronski beat are around who rave about anything nothing will change. Queen are the band with the worst re-Issues and the worst "official" rarities/Box sets out there by far. Look what the stones release. ABout 3-4 Digipacks with livesets including video. Or Beatles. Or Floyd. Sad but true we get another Japan Greatest Hits...

On a serious note - I think you have me completely wrong on this one. I've never "raved" about Queen's "deluxe" releases. If anything, I've always been one of the biggest critics of what they do. It's nice that (rarely) we get something, but usually (like the NOTW box) leaves a feeling of "mmm, ok, but where's the rest?"
And you're 100% correct about the Beatles and Floyd. Sadly, it really doesn't stop there. AC/DC, Rainbow, UFO, Purple and Zep have ALL shown how these collections should be done.
Queen's biggest problem is Brian. He seems to have some "perfectionist obsession" going on, whereby even their demos/outtakes must be in a "decent enough" condition to be able to undergo/sustain through restoration to his "superior standard" before the fans can have it.
Finally, something we agree on. A start eh?

Queen have always had strong quality control over their live releases, just like Led Zeppelin. Just look at the mixes they did for Rainbow 74 and Hammy 75, they sound more like stadium gigs than theatres when comparing to earlier mixes. It's difficult to capture that sound on a 2-track soundboard recording unless they had an engineer monitoring it the whole time and audience/stage mics as well as board feeds to work with. I'm sure we will see such recordings released in the future but I can completely understand the band's reluctance to put out such recordings.

There are recent audio tools that help with isolating vocals and instruments (from HQ non-multitracks) using Deep Learning AI like Spleeter and some others. I'd imagine those tools are going to get even better in the near future. https://deezer.io/releasing-spleeter-deezer-r-d-source-separation-engine-2b88985e797e

Good point. There are some great live releases that were done live to 2-track, the majority of Grateful Dead live albums in fact. Recordings they never even thought were releasable have been fixed up and released in recent times. Personally I'm all for fixing up the multi-tracks that are unusable. Supposedly Houston and Hyde Park both have problems with drop-outs, as long as it's not Freddie's vocals, I'm happy for them to overdub or sample from other live recordings to make them releasable. Spleeter sounds amazing, very much like the deep learning algorithms being developed to better upscale images and video.

And that same perfectionism is what helped make their classic albums from 1974-77 what they were - perfect.
