Part Three: New thread while Thor and Lee's book is in Publication

I wasn't going to weigh in on the complaints earlier, but I think I will just say that Thor has told us more than once that he is too busy with the book to be here. I respect that. He and Lee created a warm and welcoming community that is often different from the other QZ threads. I believe he will come back once the book is published and he hopefully has more free time. Until that time, we have evolved into a group that is generally harmonious and I hope we can continue. There are dozens of other threads on QZ that might interest those who are unhappy with content here. Thor has made it clear that he will be absent for the time being.

Someone here already created the "book" topic when this thread got off topic discussing Queen books.

Why is it not possible to create a new friendly "small talk" topic?

Saint it was me who created the book topic thread.

As it's clear this thread has turned into a general chit chat thread, how about we start a new thread entitled 'thor and Lee' for them too post too as and when they are able. The topic can remain in keeping with Lee and Thor's post and this thread can remain a free for all for people. This seems a fair way for all.

I understand all points of view here so it would be nice to accommodate all :)

katy Thor has been popping on here when he can and I'd imagine it's difficult for him to wade through all the posts to see if there is anything he needs to address. This is of course just my view point.

When he has posted it gets buried and lost amongst all the chatter so I can see where the three guys are coming from. This is the reason for the suggestion for a new thread for Thor and Lee to post on . That way this one can continue as it is and the new thread will be easier for people to see if Thor has been able to pop on.

Although he isn't able to post regularly , he does try to get on when he can, that the impression I get. Once he posts regularly the new thread will be buzzing with members .

They run it maybe someone suggest they start it only for that purpose.As Thor has said before he and Lee are the ones who run this thread and that was told to me point blank right here.So if somebody feels comfortable in messaging them to start one I think it's only righ because they are the ones that run these threads under their names.

I don't think we should take it on ourselves to start a new thread for Thor and Lee. Thor has started three threads here as needed and I've always hoped he would start a new thread when the book is published and he's ready to come back. Doing so would naturally take it back to the original focus. I just don't see it as our place to create a new home for Thor and Lee. If people want to start a thread on the Personal section of QZ for small talk, that's up to them. I think that if we stop making truly personal comments here and keep it to Queen/Freddie, we are fine.

That's just my opinion and I'm stepping out of this now.

If this one is left for them and someone starts another one for other topics then that's appropriate to do so.But to not contact someone and start a thread on their behalf that they coordinate and start to me needs further discussion to the cordinators.

I agree katydyd he told me before nicely I didnt run this thread he did.It hurt my feelings but he and Lee are the coordinators.

Hi all!! Just wanted to chime in here.....I see both sides and greatly respect your opinions. If it would make it easier for everyone, I don't think any of us on the book thread would object it to becoming the book/general chit-chat thread. It doesn't get too many posts over there and it's some of the same people anyway. It should clear up space on here, we're not getting hit by trolls (yet, fingers crossed) over there and then there's only two threads some of us have to check.

And, can I just say, all this talk about all this talk has taken up a few pages ironically. LOL, thought that was kinda funny :)

this site isn't owned by any of us and as such we are all free to do as we please here as long as we are polite etc etc. After his comment you mention Chevyman he was reminded that he doesn't own this thread , he is merely the person who started it . (Sorry Thor..no offence meant by this as you know I love you )

I just meant a new thread could be started for Thor & Lee's benefit , I am sure it won't cause them any uspet, it would just be a thread for them and would save them wading through all the posts here.

As this is a public site I feel we have to take all opinions on board and be fair to all All QZ members are as important as Thor and Lee. It really isn't going to do any harm to either start up a new chit chat thread for everyone to chat to your hearts content without it bothering some or create Thor and Lee their own new thread purely for book updates, health updates etc. I cannot see why we would have to ask as I am sure Thor being the sensible grown up he is will see why .

Yes he was reminded but out of respect I chose to abide by his wishes.I think another thread to discuss other topics isn't a bad idea.I just dont think anyone should attach someone's name to a thread that is a living breathing person without asking them.Most people are here because they want to talk to Thor you are correct Doughnut guess that's why we may venture off a bit and talk about some crazy stuff.Saint Juib ,I see your point too but when their book is out whatever thread they are answering questions on will be flooded with new comers.More men I'm sure and I know Thor loves us ladies but he probably as well as Lee wants to talk to some guys for a change.Its tragic to talk and keep up with women.I think he has figured out women always have to be right.Poor guy.Im not gonna ruin this joyful time for them by arguing .Who wouldve thought they wouldve been writing a book about their time with an incredible rock star that's amazing.

This is my first post in this thread (I had wanted to wait until Thor and Lee checked back in, but in light of their being busy I’ll go ahead and post now). As far as chit chat, I kind of enjoy reading it but I get that some want posts relevant to the thread topic. It seems to me a thread titled chit chat or general stuff would work best. I would suggest Thor and Lee start a new thread when they come back or when the book comes out, as I can personally attest that wading through the many pages in these threads can be exhausting! : )

So...on the song Don’t Try Suicide...I just love the song. The topic is dicey, but I can separate treating it in a fun way from something serious. It was not quite such a problem back in Freddie’s time, so I’m sure it wasn’t thought of as something not to be used tongue-in-cheek in a song. That said, I do wish the words were different. I was listening to it the other day (ironically) and trying to come up with alternate lyrics. Something like “Don’t Try Doing Drugs” as a more helpful song....or “Don’t Wed Looney Brides” for fun? Ha....this is why I’m not a lyricist!

And Doughnut....I also love Death on Two Legs! : D

Doughnut....I love "Queen: The Complete Illustrated Lyrics". The pictures are fantastic, you'll notice almost every page has one, and it's fun to look at the handwritten copies of lyrics. For example, we can see part of the song "Body Language" that Freddie wrote on a hotel pad from the Hilton in Munich. You will enjoy this book a lot.

Really interesting points about "Don't Try Suicide"...I may have to give that one another listen. I admit that I don't like the song, but I will try looking at it with fresh eyes and let you know if I have a change of heart.

Diversity of opinion will always exist with a group as varied as ours is. Glad everyone is comfortable enough to share what they think about how this thread should proceed. The discussion has been interesting. There have been, and will be, bumps in the road... but for the most part, those "bumps"are smoothed out and the thread keeps moving along. For certain, it has changed since Thor first started it, but that's okay. It doesn't have to stay the same. When Thor and Lee come back, it will change again. Some topics of conversation resonate with me more than others, but I am sure that is true for everyone. What's consistent, is that it remains a friendly place for Freddie and Queen fans to gather and share everything from the silly to the serious. I'm fine with the way things are now.
