I feel the need to add a comment on the Christmas video. I'm aware that it's simplistic in an e-card sort of way, but I found it peaceful. That's something I need right now. If you understand that my other great interest is politics, then you'll understand my need for simple beauty. If the intention was to wish fans a Merry Christmas then I say well done. Typically, most of the comments on the other QZ forums are negative. That's fine, but I'm personally glad that I can take pleasure in the small things.
Katy!!! Thank you so much for sharing this!!! My facts are all getting tangled up now so definitely help me out. Thought I read somewhere that this was written during a much-needed break and they were in separate places??? I could be overlapping different facts. :-))))
I smiled when saw your post, perfect timing, someone texted me just yesterday that they just discovered this song thru Shazam. It was playing at a Christmas party and she thought .... that sounds like Freddie. (Haha)

Katydyd...Taking pleasure in small things...so important, as life tends to be made up of a multitude of small things, not the big events.
Several months ago on this thread, many of us were talking about all the songs we would love to have heard Freddie record. While driving home from work today I heard the song "O Holy Night" playing on the radio. Truly one of the most beautiful Christmas songs ever written. Can you imagine how amazing that song would be with Freddie singing? (Actually, I wish he had made an entire Christmas album. I wonder if he was ever approached to do such a project?)
Rainbow, I was thinking the same thing I think Elvis did and it turned out beautiful.I think Freddie's would've been better.

Hi Katy, thank you for sharing your perspective and for the reminder to appreciate small things. I love the Thank God It's Christmas song and I could just imagine Freddie singing this dressed up in a black suit. I had hoped it would have incorporated images of Freddie and the boys in it somehow, maybe vintage photos or something. It's a beautiful song. xo
JB, I'm afraid I can't tell you anything about the history of the song. I was just having a moment last night with the snow falling outside and I felt like posting the video.
Delilah, like you, I was hoping to see images of the guys, watching the entire video before I realized we weren't going to get that.
Rainbow, though we know that Freddie loved Christmas and that there were carol sings around the piano at Garden Lodge, I just can't see a whole Christmas album from him. Somehow I just cannot picture him doing that. I guess I tend to be more traditional in my preferences of Christmas music. I was thinking about the Christmas CDs I have in the car right now. It's Pentatonix, Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban, Peter, Paul and Mary, Joan Baez...……….and...……………….Annie Lennox. So much for traditional, huh??
Katydyd, Annie Lennox has a Xmas CD? I own her "Medusa" and "Nostalgia" CDs. Do you remember the 1999 movie "American Beauty?" As soon as I heard her version of Neil Young's "Don't Let It Bring You Down" in the movie, I raced to get "Medusa!" Whoever had the idea to incorporate that song into the movie was an absolute genius. I'm sorry, folks, if Annie Lennox doesn't relate to Freddie and the thread. O wait, yes, she does! She and David Bowie had performed "Under Pressure" as a duet @ Freddie's tribute concert.
Rainbow, I would love to have heard Freddie's rendition of "O Holy Night." The song certainly lends itself to his voice. Can you imagine his voice soaring across a cathedral's stage? Do you believe he could have taken on "Ave Maria" or not?
Jo, I had the same reaction to a Freddie Christmas CD as you did to Annie Lennox. What???????????? Try Googling Annie Lennox Christmas music for a sample. It's different, but I've always liked her voice and it's fun. And she does connect to Freddie. She knew him, there are pictures of them together and, of course, the tribute concert.
Katy, agreed. Thanks
Annie Lennox was so unique and her own person. She wasnt apart of the crowd she did her own thing I do admire her for that quality. She has aged very well she looks the same as she always did.Beautiful spirit.
I am NOT an artist by trade - or hobby. I debated whether or not to share my crude artwork, my holiday decor of last year, Dec. 2018. I didn't join QueenZone till Jan. 2019. The movie "Bo Rhap" came out in Oct. 2018 in the U.S. I saw it in Nov. 2018. We held our 1st ever - and only - employee door-decorating contest at work as a fundraiser for a worthy cause last Dec. 2018. It was one of the director's crazy idea, as he dropped off rolls of colored paper for us to use. The rest of the materials were left to us. The ONLY criterion for the contest was that the decor had to have a "December theme." After seeing "Bo Rhap," I wanted to erect a shrine to Freddie Mercury for my door, but how could I make it meet the December theme criterion? Voila! I had an idea. I hated to make Freddie a cautionary tale about unsafe sex, but Dec. 1st is World AIDS Day globally and the entire month of Dec. is AIDS Awareness Month in the U.S. I added a condom fact sheet from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) to the door, that explained how latex condoms decrease the risk of STD and HIV transmission. For the door, I chose a yellow background, because Freddie's fav' color was yellow. Also, it offered visual contrast. I incorporated latex condoms into the decor for "safe sex." Black condoms composed the musical notes. Red condoms served as the Xmas tree's ornaments. The creme de la creme was the yellow condom for the Xmas tree angel's halo. The greatest challenge was glu(e)ing condoms to the paper because they were lubricated. They kept falling off the door. It drove me crazy. Elmer's Glue and rubber cement glue worked poorly. Finally, I realized I should've used Super Glue from the very start! Live and learn. BTW, I won 3rd place - far more so for my crazy idea v. actual artistic talent! My door was the only Freddie Mercury shrine. Everybody else had mounted traditional Dec. themes on their doors; e.g., Christmas, gingerbread houses, Winter Wonderland scenes, Hanukkah, etc. Anyway, I hope nobody is offended by my "art" from last Dec. It's not meant to be sacrilegious. For next week, as Freddie would say, "Happy Xmas!" Happy Hanukkah, too!
Yes, CHEVY, Annie Lennox is unique and ageless!
Jo, you got balls girl condoms wonderful unique idea.I hope you won.Did you blow up the condoms.I can remember in school sex education classes them handing out condoms.I gave them to my Male friends.Of course I was dating a girl at the time I had no use for one of those and at that time if I guy had approached me with one in the dark I wouldve screamed. He wouldve went home not having to worry about having to use one anymore.I think you had a lovely idea outrageous idea.Thats the whole point dont follow the crowd kudos to you girl
Jo, you sure chose a worthy cause! You were very creative with your idea, and I had to laugh at the trouble you had with the glue. And winning a prize too! Way to go! I remember many a themed door decorating contest at my elementary school, but never saw anything quite like this. ; ) I truly admire your ability to find a way to make our Freddie a part of your director's challenge.
Thanks, CHEVY, and you inadvertently made me remember I forgot to give credit where credit is due and thank the late Dolly Arthur. Using condoms as "decor" was NOT my unique idea. I borrowed the idea from Dolly, an Alaskan prostitute from the early to mid-1900s, during the Prohibition era. Her former bordello presently stands as Dolly's House, a museum open to visitors, in Ketchikan, Alaska. I've visited Alaska 2x and got to tour Dolly's House in person in Ketchikan. I saw how Dolly had used silk condoms to make flowers to decorate the shower curtain in her bathroom. BTW, CHEVY, I did NOT blow up any condoms like balloons. That would've been a great idea though!
Thanks, Katydyd, I don't work at an elementary school. My door would most certainly NOT have been appropriate for minors! LOL However, many of my colleagues got their door ideas from elementary school teachers on Pinterest. I had joked I should share my door photo on Pinterest.
