Hi Thor

I am very glad to hear that your knee is on the mend. I'll get you're in less pain now than on "bad days" when you needed the new knee.

Take care and kindest regards to Lee, too (and Victor)

Amidds what a nightmare you have had. I can understand your frustration .
Hope it's sorted now .

You are so right , Freddie seemed to need a big stage to give his full electric performance. The magic tour stage was perfect for him although in an interview he said he may need rolla skates to get from one side to the other . That makes me chuckle

Katy I can't wait for the new book as there is nothing better for me than having what he genuinely said over the years in print thereby having fact rather than fiction . 8000 new interview words seems awesome.

Thor the more I find out about Freddie the more I think how blessed you were having him as a friend .

Take care

Thor,
Glad to hear you feel good enough to drive. As many have probably told you- take it slow even if it’s feeling better!! Have a safe trip and say hello to Lee for me!!

Cheers!!

Amidds...Hope you weren't hurt in the auto accident...no whiplash. Also sad when it's a nice, new car that gets damaged. Sounds like a frustrating mess....Good luck sorting everything out.

Katydyd and doughnut...Thanks for the heads-up about the reissue of "Freddie Mercury: A Life In His Own Words". I had no idea it was being republished until you mentioned it. I hadn't read it before, but I find myself on the fence about whether I want to purchase it. I certainly love the idea of compiling all of Freddie's quotes over the years into one book, and like doughnut said, there will be 8000 new words...that sounds enticing. I was about to pre-order it on Amazon, but then I started reading comments on other QZ threads about the first book, and now I am not so sure. By far, the biggest criticism seems to be the lack of sources for the quotes. I read on the book discussion thread that Mika was trying to research the sources for all the quotes in the entire book. Kudos to her...wonderful idea...HUGE project! I do like that Freddie's Mom, Jer, wrote the foreword. That would be points in the book's favor. I might wait to order it and see if there are any reviews on QZ. I do read Amazon reviews, but in this case, nobody knows Queen and Freddie like the folks here! The new paperback book is very reasonably priced at $11.99 (US dollars). However, If you prefer an older, used paperback version of the same book, that's only $350! (I do prefer the cover on the first book...the one of Freddie during the shoot of "I Was Born To Love You.")

I really need to reread "Queen:As It Began" to be up-to-date on any upcoming discussions. JB050...someone is trying to sell the book for $800? That's laughable. For $800 I will buy a plane ticket to England and go on a Queen/Freddie tour of important sites myself with my "40 Years of Queen" book as a reference!

Forget what I said about the new cover of "Freddie Mercury: A Life In His Own Words". I was looking at the hard cover version (a drawing) when I expressed my preference. I just noticed the cover of the updated paperback release...that does have a great photo of Freddie on it.

@Katydyd5, I sent you a PM about "Come From Away." Congrats on uploading your 1st photo!

@Amidds, I'm sorry to learn of your MVA. Sometimes, the aftermath is more stress than the actual collision itself. You lose your faith in humanity. At least it appears you and others weren't physically injured. That's ALWAYS a blessing!

@doughnut, thanks for the link to Amazon in the U.S. for "Freddie Mercury: A Life, In His Own Words." I pre-ordered it. It was only $11.99. Again, I'm having it sent to work, because I once had an item stolen off my porch. I need to remember the man in my mailroom for X-mas. I've kept him busy the past year dropping off all my Freddie Mercury and Queen-related orders! LOL

@JB050, thanks for sharing your VIP experience and photos. I LOVE the robe! It's practically regal, the purple and gold. Was it one-size-fits-all?

@Rainbow61, I hope Queen + AL tour the U.S. again. Maybe it'll be over Brian May's 75th b-day year. That would be the perfect age for a "farewell tour."

Having an excellent mini-vacation at the Palm Canyon Resort. My friend Victor left for a couple of days to New Orleans.
I've got a big suite all to myself...What to do? What to do?
Well, thinking for about 3 seconds, I invited Lee for a sleep over on Tues. night. It will be like high school and I am thinking, lots of fun.
However, book work all day Wednesday! No ifs, ands, or buts about it!.
Happy Labor Day here in the US.

Thor...A mini-vacation at the sunny Palm Canyon Resort...sounds heavenly. Lee probably only took about 3 seconds to say "Yes" to that invitation! Undoubtedly, there is a gorgeous pool there... are you able to go swimming this soon after surgery? Have only stayed at a resort once in my life, for 2 days, about 35 years ago.

Nothing like a little R & R before you and Lee dive back into your publishing work. Hopefully, you are on the final leg of this "book journey". Enjoy!

Hmmmm………...I have some catching up to do.

Amidds, hope things have worked out as far as your MVA. It can be such a frustrating process.

Doughnut, Rainbow, and others, I'm on the fence about In HIs Own Words, but I can feel myself slipping over to the purchase side of things. After all, I can take my old copy to the half-priced book store and someone will love it. Rainbow, Jer's intro is extremely short, but still nice to see her vote of approval. Jacky wrote a review of the new words on the FB Queen page today and she swayed me by saying some of it is from never published or obscure print articles. I think she also said some is from never seen interviews, but I could be incorrect on that. Either way, I'll probably get it because the price is so reasonable. Plus I have a Freddie Mercury 2020 calendar sitting in my cart on Amazon and this would be a good excuse to put that order through. It is not a book I've read over and over and it isn't sourced at all, but I found when reading it that I could "hear" Freddie's voice since so many of the quotes are familiar and that's fun. It's nice to have so many of his words in one place too, and I do occasionally go to find something obscure.

I do own As It Started, and while it isn't a top favorite either, I think I'll re-read along with you all.

Jo T, so good to see you! I've missed you and the other regulars! Thanks for the PM regarding Come From Away. That was exactly the info I've been looking for. I've had packages stolen from my porch too. During the holiday months I think cars follow the UPS trucks and make the grab as fast as the truck leaves. I don't have the work option, so I just keep an ear open if I'm expecting something. I order a lot from Amazon and Zulilly so my mailman has to trek up my steep slope of a driveway frequently. For the month of December I leave a basket of goodies on my porch. Things like bottled water, candy, peanut butter crackers, etc. with a sign that says "thanks for all you do". I can tell you my mailman loves it, and UPS, etc are also quite happy to see it. I figure it's a fun way to say thanks.

Thor, good to see you pop in too. I've never stayed at a resort but I imagine it's pretty fabulous. Oh wait...……..I forgot a trip to Hawaii that my ex won as a top salesman. It was a dream! I hope you are having the same experience. You and Lee have such a long and enduring friendship. Do either of you ever consider moving closer?

Thor- Happy Labor Day ! It sounds like you are really enjoying yourself. It’s true what they say, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
Last day to go to the beach here. The kids go back to school on Tuesday, my daughter is actually excited to go back! Sad to see the summer end but at the same time love the fall; Halloween, apple picking, pumpkin pie, leaves changing colors...love it! There are a couple of photos of Freddie dressed up for Halloween, I wonder if there are going to be stories about those times in NYC. I can’t wait to read about it all!

Is it just me or is the updated Freddie Mercury His Life In His Own Words only available for pre-order on Amazon UK?

Terri, fall is my favorite season. I'm ready!

Terri and Katydyd...I agree. Fall is such a wonderful time of the year. I am grateful to be surrounded by such beauty where I live...maple tress have exquisite foliage. I love the warm days and cools nights of autumn. My husband and I always go on wagon rides at the local orchard on a trail that takes us past apple trees to a pumpkin patch in a far out field. This orchard has a great country store, festively decorated with bales of hay, pumpkins, gourds, and corn stalks. And the bakery...homemade apple pie and crisp, doughnuts, breads, cider, and of course, bins of apples. When you walk through the door the aromas immediately put you in "olfactory heaven"!

I would LOVE to see a trick or treater come to my door dressed as Freddie...that would certainly be worth extra candy!

Rainbow greg has confirmed there are 8000 new words in the book and as Jacky said new material from never published and obsecure interviews. I'm pretty sure there must be a fair bit we haven't seen from his interviews with David wigg .

David picked what went to print and a bell of a lot of their convo wasn't printed . For example in 1987 We know his comment about how happy he was in his relationship never made it to print and we haven't seen all of the ,bigger the better' interview.

Rainbow I find it strange that 'as it began ' isn't a top fav ? For me you can't get more c!oser to knowing you are reading facts as it's been read by the band , Freddie included. I'm interested in your reasons if you don't mind ?

Jo.T that's a really good price and not long to.wait now . I'm in need of some new reading material.

Thor glad you are having an excellent vacation. Happy labor day to you .
