John was most definitely featured in archive video when they played These Are The Days Of Our Lives during the Q+PR 2005 tour. The audience cheered every time. I don't know if this changed in the Q+AL shows since I've only seen then in the U.S. and they never play that song stateside.
Echoing what I said above. The crowd let out a massive cheer when he appeared on screen.

The thing I found interesting was is that Brian celebrated John's birthday a lot on Instagram - he had a couple of photos of John and even a short video of John speaking. Roger didn't even mention that it was John's birthday at all.

Roger has turned in to a grumpy old arrogant git, sad cos when he was younger he was a canny lad.

Because Brian and Roger don't care about John. Not really, anyway.

jimmy DEAN If the Queen family is as close as they say it is then John should be remembered and in light that he is not a well man he is still suffering depression and May & Taylor have sad some nasty things about John in the past.
He was still a very valuable member of Queen.
I don''t agree that they've said anything nasty....yes, they (especially Roger!) have come out with the odd spur of the moment quip ('he still like receiving the cheques!'), but really anything else they've said (addressing John's fragile state of mind, for example) has always been in direct response to very specific questions and probing in interviews - it's not as though they actively throw their thoughts on John in without any prompt. And even then they've been quite respectful, thoughtful and restrained in their responses, referencing the quality of his playing, writing, and essentially confirming that he's chosen to withdraw from 'that world' and the interviewer would have to ask John himself if they want any more info.
They can't win - if they don't mention him then they get accused of blanking him, but if they do refer to him then people say 'why don't they leave John alone?' I've worked with some brilliant, wonderful people over the last 30 years, but many of them aren't in my day-to-day life anymore, but if asked or reminded about them I'll often come up with a remembrance or a remark about them with no ill feeling - that's pretty much what you get here.

what gets me annoyed is Brian and Roger have only referred to John with sarcastic comments.
Brian saying "oh Johns delicate and the music scene was too much for him" Roger saying John is a "sociopath" They never say he was a brilliant bass player and song writer do they?
dysan · Member since
Yes they do. We've done this several times before.

when was the last time they said John was a brilliant songwriter and bass player then? 20 years ago or what?

A couple of days ago on Brian’s Instagram, for John’s birthday, he literally labelled him “the best”. Good enough?

Well that is a start but Deacon deserves so much more respect from May & Taylor who probably think more of Lambert than a guy who played bass with them over 21 years !

It really wouldn't matter what evidence was presented to you as once you have an idea bouncing around in the mostly empty space between your ears it sticks there no matter what.

You should take a trawl through Brian's instagram for the few days or so, he posted happy birthday to John and was clearly feeling nostalgic since he went looking for a particular corner where the four of them had a photo and found the spot to take another one on his own and captioned it "I've lost my mates" then posted one with Roger and captioned it "I found one of my mates" and as cms drums said he also called John the greatest, not really sure how much more anyone could expect from him tbh.
It's very possible John doesn't want to keep in touch with them so my question is if a colleague you worked with for years cut you out of their life how long would you keep paying respect to them and getting nothing back? It's easy to say they're not giving John respect but John has withdrawn from any public connection to them or his life in the band and no one really knows the reason so I personally give them the benefit of the doubt in the absence of John publicly declaring what his thoughts are.

I'm not sure there are any work colleagues I keep in touch with and keep talking to strangers about from what 25 years ago?

rockchic65, I saw those posts too. Brian constantly makes conscious efforts to include both Freddie and John in whenever and wherever he can and even travelled to Zanzibar right before the North American Rhapsody tour, reflecting and remembering Freddie. They are definitely not forgotten. Perhaps people took it out of context when Brian or Roger make comments esp Brian when he made that comment about Adam can do the same... He didn't seem malicious about it but I realize others will disagree. And I'm not even an Adam fan. :)
dysan, I don't keep in touch with work colleagues from 25 years ago either, but it seems as the band was like a family as they toured all over the world for months at a time but at the same time, they didn't get into each other's personal lives. John seems to just want his privacy and cut everyone out of his life from that time. :(
