Almost more glam than actual 'rock'.
Agreed here! It's has truly glamy feel, although mixed with pompeous queen manner

"The Works" is a proper crafted Queen album and miles better than "A Kind Of Magic".
Freddie explained he put everything into that album to make it the works because there is everything there to make it a magnificent album.
While "A Kind of Magic" has a few nice songs on it there is no way that it is a better album than "The Works"

The Works.
Well done record. All songs were singles (a and b sides).
Beautiful album cover. One of their best.

Also, The Works tour had a great setlist. The first shows of that tour are amazing.

Difficult to compare, both have a definite 80’s sound, I just think by now Queen had become a ‘singles band’ and because of that didn’t manage to produce consistent albums, basically singles and fillers.. no middle ground. Due to the strength of the singles The Works comes out on top.

Hammer to fall merely listenable???

Ok, it's more merely listenable :)

In fact , Queen do HTF type of songs almost effortlessly...so it's kinda conveyor-belt song, i assume.

As were Man on the Prowl, Tear It Up. Fillers, but takin' into consideration the band's arrangement style/sound are effective fillers.

But still are fillers anyway

Also for me the lyrics in Hammer... is almost awful))
HTF is way overrated in my view. I quite liked the slow version they did with Paul Rodgers, but the original studio version is just a few minutes of overproduced noise to me. It bothers me they still play it live, it basically became a staple of their live performances, while there are so many better "rockers" out there. Brian clearly seems to think people can't wait to hear it, while in reality, the general public doesn't care about this song (15m views on YouTube which isn't much for Queen).

You can’t say judge a song based on YouTube views. Despacito has more than 6.4 billion views. Does that make it a good song? Hell no. Just the fact that HTF was chosen to be played in their precious 20 minutes at Live Aid makes it a classic. While you might not like the song, it is wrong to say that it is a bad song.

And also, doesn’t the fact that it only has 15m views contradict your opinion that it’s overrated?

No, it doesn't. It's overrated by many fans and the band itself, but the general public made the right call on it. And of course, I didn't judge it merely on YT views, I only referred to them to back up my opinion with some objective fact.

A lot of Queen’s “rockers” work best in the live show environment not as isolated tracks. Tie Your Mother Down doesn’t have a lot of YouTube hits either but doesn’t mean it’s not an important track in the catalogue.

Not a fan of either, but I'd say 'Who Wants to Live Forever' is better than everything on 'The Works' combined.
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' 'Bohemian Rhapsody' hasn't got 180 vocal overdubs.
