the vocals from 2014 version are very rough and in some places Freddie's totally oversinging it.[/QUOTE]
A fair critique. But of course we have no idea if these were even intended to be a final vocal. It could just a comp of a couple early takes before they scrapped the song altogether.
Myself, I could listen to 1983 Freddie Mercury sing the phone book. He may have been spiralling out of control in his personal life, but vocally he was master of his domain.

both versions have their merits. i like them both - a lot.
i suppose Anita's version sounds an easier fit, because, well, Brian got to shape his song completely - as writer and producer, and I guess it sounds like he's always intended it to - because Freddie wasn't "shaping" the song/providing a working critique during recording.
the same then (for the same reasons) becomes true of the 2014 version. no Freddie? Brian has an (almost) free rein.

Better than the title track and The Show Must Go On?
Your only possible saving grace (in lieu of a personality or principles) was taste in music, and you've just lost that too.

The song is good. I like the extra footage of Brussels.

I prefer the far superior William Orbit Mix.

Bob, I’ve seen you persistently post your disdain a number of times regarding ‘Man On The Prowl’, and I will admit, I do not understand your hatred of that track. After all, it had backing vocals, a good tune, a good ending for an album side, and…. Piano!!!. Real instruments for eff sake;-) Being a Midwestern rock ‘n roller, I very much appreciated MOTP.
Compare that to ‘Staying Power’ (damn if they didn’t do the mostly live version), ‘Back Chat’, and the dreadful ‘Body Language’ from the previous LP.
So….years (decades later), my final version of ‘The Works’ is:
Side One:
Tear It Up / Man On Fire / It’s A Hard Life (ext) / I Go Crazy / Man On The Prowl
Side Two:
Let Me In (Your Heart Again) / Love Kills / I Want To Break Free (45) / Keep Passing The Open Windows / Is This The World We Created?
Would have been a Top Ten seller on our side of the pond, and perhaps made them tour the continent...?
Bonus tracks: Radio GaGa, Machines, Hammer To Fall
LMIYHA…..damn, it still sounds fresh. Cannot believe it’s been five years

Hey, to each their own. Not my cup of tea, but glad someone enjoys it.

Just ask yourself why the last person received a civil response, and why you are almost certain never to receive one from anyone here.
Clue - mentioning someone's nationality in lieu of a reasoned response may not help.

@Goodco MOTP is the worst song Queen ever recorded. I heartily disagree with any positive comments you make about it.
I hated it then, I hate it now, I will always hate it.
It's not even a mild distaste .. It brings a frown to my face and positively makes me twitch.
And no, not in a fancy click fingers way.
It should have been strangled at birth and fed to a shredder. Or at least taped over with the sound of toilets flushing.
If I were to ever state that Man On The Prowl was even remotely entertaining, my wife would know I had been kidnapped and would call the police, or take me to hospital if she could see me.
Anyhow, you get my drift.

Brenski "In only seven days" is a beautiful song and has a wonderful guitar orchestration by Brian May.
You must be stone deaf if you do not appreciate that gorgeous song.

I know each to their own, but your limitations really hamper you.
Brian's guitar-work is nothing he hadn't done (better) previously - and (even) similarly on the same album on Leaving Home Ain't Easy. The melody of the song is carried by John - didn't he play both acoustic and electric guitar on this track? Even the one part you might get away with calling guitar-work, is actually an instrumental verse.
Regardless of what you think of the song, it's a paint-by-numbers "Solomon Grundy" re-write.
