MHZ, St Jiub didn't know much more than we did about Gary Taylor. He shared the video that is on queenchat that first drew my interest to the book because the pictures are fantastic. He also shared this information:

I messaged Gary on his FB page and he replied that PayPal is the way to go and suggested I get a friend with an account to order the book for me since I don't have PP. He didn't tell me how to order the book so maybe you just message him on FB, It's so vague that I've kind of lost interest already even though his first book got great reviews.

I checked out the ordering on Gary Taylor’s book too, it is a bit on the difficult side to figure out. I have paypal but I don’t know what the friends or family option is. When I’m feeling especially brainy I might give it a try! I did the money conversion and the book is basically $25.50 plus $19 for regular shipping. Kinda pricey. I do need a new book to read, I decided yesterday to go back through Greg Brook’s book on Freddie in his own words.
I tried the m&m trick and lo and behold it worked! Now I will have to perform it for my grandkids!

Above is a picture of one of my koi goldfish, my distant connection to Freddie! This guy’s name is George, guessing he’s at least 10 years old. We have others, but he is the biggest and most interactive. My koi don’t like people for the most part, our pond is so big they don’t get fed by us at all. But George loves my dog, whenever my dog swims George comes over and they swim around the pond together! George is probably 2 feet long, not counting fins.
MHZ, George is gorgeous! I assume koi must be fairly hardy if you can leave them in your pond all winter. How many do you have?

Katy, I have a feeling I’ll do the same on the Taylor book, twiddle around until it’s too late. I wish there was a better way to order, I just don’t have a lot of trust in it. I’d love to have the first one too, kind of surprising that a good Queen book doesn’t get picked up and published by a bigger distributor.
We have maybe 7 or 8 koi altogether, we had just a couple and then restocked about 5 years ago. We ordered them off Amazon, if you can believe it! They got shipped from Louisiana, I think. We ordered a dozen, they were just young ones and I think about half of them survived. George has a partner named Gracie, she is bright orange too. Then the others are a mixture, we have orange ones with black spots and some gray ones with black spots. They are quite tough, in the winter they disappear and stay at the bottom of the pond. In the spring and fall we see them the most, when the water is cool.

LOL MHZ after you said you ordered your koi on Amazon I just had to look, and indeed, you can actually do that! Who knew???? So were you able to get replacements for those that didn't make it?? I noticed that at least one of the Amazon offers guarantees live delivery.

It is not a hobby. It is an essential job, and you must buy everything Queen-related.

Amazing, isn’t it? Koi fish on prime delivery! Ok, I don’t think we had prime back then. They did get delivered live and were fine, but once you put them in the water sometimes the stress and/or new conditions can cause them to die. We got them in the spring and in the next spring I noticed I only saw about half of them. I suppose they could still be there, lounging in the depths! They eat the muck that gathers in a pond, so it’s entirely possible.

MHZ, thanks for the link to the second Moran interview. I enjoyed this one more than the first because he offered more behind-the-scenes stories. I do get a kick out of Roberto. He's full of energy but manages to rein it in to let Mike talk, and the man does like to talk. : )
JB, I saw that there would be a FM street in Munich. Isn't it amazing that after all these years he's still being honored in various ways? He would have loved this! Speaking of years, while watching the Moran interview I saw some of those "first reactions" videos in the sidebars. There were two from a young man who is a senior in high school and did not know Queen. His followers had asked him to review the entire Live Aid performance and his reactions were priceless. When Freddie got to the call and response the kid came out of the chair. Oh, and when the beat started for WWRY he said he thought he knew the song but wasn't sure. When the crowd began to sing he went wild. He's so young he didn't even realize that WWRY was Queen. Then I looked at a second video where he reacted to STL from the Montreal concert. LOL, I thought he might actually cry. He says he's in complete awe of Freddie's voice and is sorry he's just now finding them. I love to see young people react to music that began in my era.
Saint Jiub, I love the family eye rolls. Half of what I do is to get that reaction. : ) I actually have a tee that says "I'm the inappropriate Nana" .............LOL, because I am. I just had my son hang my Queen stamps photo. I could have hung it myself, but I wanted the reaction. I got the expected eye roll, but after he hung it he said, "It pains me to admit this to you, but that is really cool." Oh yay! I may bring him over to my side yet.

Katydyd...Thank you for doing the legwork on Gary Taylor's book, getting the contact info for us. There is one thing I am confused about though...is this a 2nd edition of his first book (which I thought was sold out) or did he write a new book? Yes, it is quite easy to find Queen/Freddie items to buy. I recently ordered Mick Rock's photo book "Classic Queen". I got a used paperback version that was only $6.88 plus S&H. I had seen most of the pictures before, but there were some new ones as well. It was a fun and easy read. There were a couple issues with the book that I had been forewarned about in the reviews: 1) The binding is flimsy. Mine detached right away. 2) The print is VERY small. I read that koi can live up to 100 years, although I assume that is atypical. It was sad that all of Freddie's koi died some years ago...they could still be around today. As Katydyd and JB050 mentioned, I had no idea one could order live koi on Amazon. That made me curious as to what other live animals Amazon might sell...found out you can also order live lobsters, crickets, guppies, goldfish, snails, and worms! Who knew?
JB050...I bet businesses and restaurants near the new Freddie Mercury street are extremely happy with the Council's decision. Think of how many people will go there to have their picture taken under the sign, and then decide to do some shopping or go out to eat.

Did anyone watch Brian's book launch last Wednesday? It was for the new book he co-authored on Cosmic Clouds in 3-D. It was interesting. I even used my viewer from Brian's "Queen in 3-D" book to look at the pictures while he was discussing them. (Okay...this is REALLY bad...I actually had a physical therapy appointment that day that I cancelled (in the morning) when I realized it was at the same time as the book launch!)
One of my all time favorite TV shows is "The Great British Baking Show". My husband and I have been watching it for years. The first episode of this new season was "cake week". One of the challenges was for the contestants to make a bust of their favorite celebrity...and someone baked Freddie! :) :) :)
