being a Queen fan in the seventies, I used to think the band had four members and all that schpiel about 'If one member left, that'd be the end.'

Being a naive teenager, I was disappointed that Queen II didn't match the kickass performance I saw in the spring of 74. Being even more naive, I wondered why John grew a beard for the SHA album cover pic;-)

When i first got into Queen in 1973, i thought they were the best band i'd ever heard, guess what?, i still think the same today.

I also thought Brian sang We Will Rock You, until I saw it at Live Aid
Many bands I knew before (Van Halen, U2, Extreme) had a characteristic: the (official) keyboardist was the guitarist. I assumed Brian was the pianist of Queen too and that Freddie didn't play anything. It all changed when I watched Bo Rhap's video
Other than that I don't remember so many. Oh, I thought I Can't Live With You was John's, also because he had to have at least one song per album, and I always considered Don't Try So Hard to be either Freddie or Brian.

now I remember some more:
In a TV music channel 'Friends Will Be Friends' from Wembley was shown, and since the choruses are not so high and Roger was shown singing, I thought Roger was the "bass singer" of the band (hence he did those low notes in Bicycle, Somebody, etc).
Then I watched Killer Queen from Kampuchea, and in "anytime" Brian was zoomed, hence I thought he was the high-singing-voice of the band. Talking about that I believed Bo Rhap had a choir in the opera section and the band members just played the instruments.
By the way, before I started to make recordings myself I used to think that the songs of the albums of any rock band were just the band playing it once in the studio, I didn't know about overdubs. That lead me to many misconceptions: If John played piano in 'You're My Best Friend', then the bass should be Freddie.

The release of 'Live Killers' was my first contact with Queen and it was like
"wtf, why didn't i experience that great rock band before?"
After a looong wait (me being a fan already) came out their new album 'The Game' with everybody playing SYNTHS! [urgh]
Followed by something called 'Flash Gordon'...

aaah those were the days i still remember all the excitement and enthusiasm that i was in when i first got into Queen and how i would always let my imagination explain what those songs meant and what the band was going through ...... it was MAGIC :)

My aunt introduced me to Queen's music after 1991, and the first albums that I listened were GH II and The FM Album. When I saw the picture of Roger (taken on the These are the days of our lives video shoot) on the GH II booklet, I was sure he was a she. I kept insisting so for a long time, until I read from somewhere that his name was Roger. Mind you, I was 8 at the time.
I also used to translate their songs into Finnish with a dictionary, so you can imagine how silly some of the translations were, as I didn't understand the concept of the songs then, just the word to word translation..

I used to think that Brian plays his guitar harmonies (for example those in Dreamers Ball) simultaiously on just one guitar. I also used to think that there is no band else equaling Queen in terms of diversity... until I heard the Beatles albums.

Used to get confused between who was Brian and Roger, Now I'm Here was sung by Brian, and at the tribute concert, as Freddie shouted 'this is what you wanted and this is what you're gonna get' that he was really alive and it was all a big joke. Okay that feeling may have only existed for a couple of seconds but hell I believed.

At the begining of the 80's when I first heard Queen, my friends told me that they were all gay. I said, no, that cannot be, especially Freddie.

Sorry for the previous post. In those old days (I mean the early nineties :)) there were only pirate cassettes in Poland and there was I'm Going Slightly Mad on my copy of Queen II. I thought this was the album prior to Innuendo :) but my most amusing misunderstanding about this song is connected with the Cure. first there was this "Lullaby" video by the Cure and a bit later I saw I'm going Slightly Mad video and I was perfectly sure it was the same guy who previously had been afraid of sleep because of spiders. I didn't like IGSM at first because Lullaby had horrified me :))

I too mixed Roger and Brian up and when they appeared on a shit house talk show at the start of last year I thought 'Hang on! They've got the names mixed up! He's Brian and he's Roger. Twats!'
Then of course I never got anything wrong ever again...ever.
