@ hangman (photo of Andrea Corr):
Yeah, i remember, this moment my eyes popped wide open.
Her singing on 'World We Created' was moving.
Zucchero's 'I Want It All' was better than i expected.
Anastacia did a great job on 'WWRY/WATC', but was a bit over the top.
Would like to hear AL of the Eurythmics do some Queen-stuff, she had a fantastic performance.
Poor Roger looked like being in trouble when on drums.
Can't judge his playing but doubt he's in shape for a whole set.

What the hell does that have to do with being a good musician. Freddie lost his voice, Brian broke a string. So you're saying they're bad musicians?

I can listen to WATC on a record all the time, that's not the point. I was talking about a live performance and for me Zucchero ruined WATC in Modena, he just sounded awful. If he is Brian's friend and they enjoy performing together, well that's good for them but personally I would prefer they do it at home and not in front of an audience :)

oh my....IMO breaking a string after 50 sec is not the best way to introduce himself as musician in this event... ;) but i still underline that i like Zucchero and i consider it one of the best artist in Italy (even if sometimes people accuse him to "steal" melodies for his song). i don't mean that people who break strings is not an artist! :)
Then you know...it's Zucchero's style at FMT, in Modena and in SA....and probably Brian likes this way of performing :) . let them free to perform!

All this talk of Zucchero's performance being good or bad is completely missing the point of this concert. Ok so he cant sing like Freddie (tho I thought he was a damn sight better than at the tribute gig), or Roger might have been out of shape playing the drums, thats not important. What was important was the it was to benefit Aids victims by raising cash - not for us to judge the performers by how good they could sing or play.

Can't we even have a side thread discussing the music?
Not even a little one?
Please?

Ok PG you got your wish. And besides I was only having a rant...
And yes I love Andrea Corr as well.

a rant? sounds fair - that's what the rest of us are doing too

Zucchero must have some talent since he toured with Miles Davis. Though Miles was certainly no more in top form those days, but still it's a fact I can hardly believe. I think it's waaaaaayyy more challenging to play with a man like Miles compared to bellowing a tune like Champions, that belongs more to the audience than to the artist singing it into the microphone.
All I wanted to say is maybe Zucchero is better in other styles of music?

Fucking hell. And I thought Miles knew how to pick the best musicians.
When you say toured with Miles, was he the resident bean-bag or truck driver or something?
Explain.

Everybody is talking about Roger looking troubled behind the drums. The only reason why he looked like that during the Corrs'Irish tune was because of the heavy (allthough it wasn't amplified that heavy) bassdrum line ... that is pretty exhausting and needs concentration and coordination; especially when you are doing this with two drummers ...

"Fucking hell. And I thought Miles knew how to pick the best musicians."
Yeah, that's why I concluded Mr Sugar must have some talent.
"When you say toured with Miles, was he the resident bean-bag or truck driver or something?"
LOL, maybe that's the answer to this problem.
I read it on 46664.com, in the artists section. But since it must have happened in the 80s, it's possible, Miles produced a lot of bullshit during that decade. Maybe Zucchero influenced him more than necessary?
EDIT: Checked it again and it probably means they shared a bus or something. But it says they also recorded a song together...

I have to admit Hank that I haven't really delved yet into the world of 80s Miles, but now that I know he associated himself with Zucchero I think I'll definitely stay clear.
Apparently in 1988 Miles heard Zucchero's "Dunne Mosse" on the radio whilst thouring in Italy, and invited Z to record a special version of it with him in New York, the lucky wanker. This version was never released but "they did perform it live several times".
Weird. His name doesn't quite sit alongside that of John Coltrane, Bill Evans, Paul Chambers, Herbie Hancock, Tony Williams, John McLaughlin et al really.
