Roger's not old....

For those thinking, myslef included, that Roger's drumming has deterioated because of age, I am watching the george harrison tribute which was at the end of 2002. Ringo Starr is playing drums here and he is 62 (possibly 61) at this stage, not a sweat is broken. So it's just that Roger is out of practise, and hopefully if there is to be anything new this year from brian and Roger he's got into shape....

There's no comparison: Ringo Starr wouldn't break a sweat cracking a fart, he's a tawdry drummer.

Roger, on t'other hand, is the dog's testicles. Different league my dear Mr Teatime.

Yes, well, as much as I love the Beatles, comparing Ringo and Roger is apples and oranges. I found an excellent site yesterday about Queen and I was on it forever! It had a studio breakdown of each song and what each player did on that particular song. It was so interesting....and tons more info as well. One of the best Queen sites I've seen. Reading about RT's contributions to each song (and the other guys too) was so interesting. IMO, Ringo is leagues behind our Rog.

ofcourse Ringo is miles behind our dear Mr Taylor. And i admit this as a Queen lover, and as a Beatles lover.

Besides drummer roger is a vocalist, guitar player, bass player, keyboard player, and he wrote some great tunes people will remember 30 years after they have been written.

Did Ringo wrote songs like that? Nope.


But apart from songwriting and other abilities, Ringo was just an average drummer. most of my bands had drummers better than Ringo, And those were just teenagers.

Yes, Niek, that's what I was talking about originally, but the whole site is very informative.

Ringo may not be in the same category as Roger in the playing department (he beat out Pete Best, didn't he?) but he's a damned good-looking 63 years young! (He'll be 64 this July!) Hate to say but he makes Macca look like a fossil! *snicker*
Ringo was not and never will be a songwriter. He was just "there", drumming along and keeping a steady beat for John, Paul and George. He's still very charming after all these years!! :-))

As far as I know, Ringo wasn't able to explore his drumming too much (at least between 1962 and 1966) because The Beatles were always on tour, and he was only able to keep a steady backbeat because there weren't monitors in those days, and if he deviated at least marginally from the original beat, it would throw the entire band out of time.

But he explored more with the drums as the years went on, even if it's still 4/4 and simplistic. 'A Day In The Life', 'Rain', and all of Abbey Road is simply amazing, especially considering he's not a great drummer.

Although I think he's miles above Charlie Watts.

Roger always makes those "fish-breathing" gestures with his mouth when he is drumming.

People also said this when they saw his contribution with the Corrs at 46664. That was not a simple bass-line, he never played with that female-drummer before and he obviously "didn't know the song very well", ... so he was just focussed, not tired

I think he will surprise you when they are on a big store again. Never mistake style with good or bad shape

Roger always managed to look sexy AND sweat buckets at the same time! (Those bedroom eyes...rrrrrr!!!)

The difference between Roger and Ringo Starr is that Ringo never could play the drums. At all.

And in case people haven't noticed, most people do mellow out and settle down as they get older.

Roger is a good drummer but when you don't perform as often as you once did you get a little rusty is all. He is still one of the best in my book IMO. As far as Ringo I adore him always have Ringo never took himself seriously, he's a lot of laughs saw him last summer during his all-star tour had a blast! I wouldn't waste money on Paul anymore, he's become to high and mighty. When Linda was around he was more humble, now forget it especially what the tix to see him cost. FORGET IT!
