OK... this is not about great band frontmen, but just simply about voice range.

Do any of you guys know what other male singers have a voice range close to Freddie's? George Michael is the first one to come to our minds after his awesome performance at the Freddie tribute.
Other ones that come to my mind are perhaps Marc Anthony, Mick Hucknall (Simply Red), and perhaps some R&B singers from the 70s and 80s (although I'm not very much into the genre).

Does anyone else know who else is close to Freddie's range?

Jeff Buckley? Are you sure?

Thom Yorke's not a bad choice.

I've heard Axl Rose doing Eb1, although I doubt he could get any lower, at least in that era (Use Your Illusion). Perhaps nowadays he can, who knows. Highest notes I've heard from him are Eb4 I think (note that the high voices of 'Don't Cry' are by Izzy and Shannon), but I'm sure he can get higher than that.

Bee Gees don't sing that high as you may think at first. They sing in falsetto a lot (from '75 onwards), but their highest notes are hardly ever above D4, which is a note Fred and Roger could easily sing without falsetto. As for low notes, Maurice did sing some very good ones in 'Odessa', but I don't know which exact notes he did
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' 'Bohemian Rhapsody' hasn't got 180 vocal overdubs.

Michael Jackson has/had a huge range too

Jeff Buckley, for sure.

And I have to say Thom Yorke's a fairly ridiculous comparison. You'll be lucky to find him ever going above a G(3) in his chest voice.

A few suggestions to get the arguments going

Billy Joel (very powerful for a little guy!)

Phil Collins (again different style but big range)

Tony Vincent (great performance every night)

The guy from The Darkness (should spark a few fights)

And not forgetting... Leo Sayer!! Yep that little chap has a huge range.

Adam, i don't know if Jeff Buckley is the best choice, but i honestly think he's got a range much larger rather than Thom Yorke...

Although we all know he's a child molester, I think R. Kelly has one hell of a voice.
I've found that a lot of black R&B and Soul singers like Luther Vandross, Marvin Gaye, and Barry White have great voice ranges.

I think Ian Gillan has a vocal range of about 4 octaves, not really sure if that's true.
