I'll tell you guys what. Tonight I'll write an argumentive report (or partial essay) on my views on why we need a MOD or two, and give evidence or supportive bits and pieces to back up my views.
And then tomorrow I will post it, and set up a poll over the MOD issue. Until tomorrow, can we just drop the MOD issue for now, please?

Your assignment is to write an essay between 3 and 7 pages, no more than 1200 words but no less than 1000, arguing the case on why there should be mods. You will be graded for punctuation, grammar, capitalization, correct spelling, and content. Please do extensive research, and include in-text quotations and citations. I expect a fully annotated bibliography, containing at least five sources, but only one of them may be from the Internet. You must hand the essay into me before the end of tomorrow, and PLEASE, PEOPLE, CHECK YOUR MARGINS! This counts as 60% of your final grade.
Class dismissed.

Actually, there are no plans to have the board moderated, so please don't hand in applications or set up polls:-)

Having a mod or two is not that big of a deal. Richard should simply limit what a mod can or cannot due, such as censoring someone's posts, etc. However simple tasks such as closing multiple threads about the same topic or moving threads to a more appropriate forum are fine by me.
Banning someone due to excessive abuse or spamming should be left to Richard.
Wouldn't that appease everyone?

Something by each thread that shows if we have posted to it or not :)
Also there is a screensaver on my site they can use...I tried donating it a long time ago but it never showed up. It's a slide-show of the different vinyl record labels used on Queen albums.

Actually, Lester, i think it's a good thing that we have no moderators. Kat and Sea, the two moderators on my preferred Pearl Jam board, are so tight that when they raise their eyebrows their knuckles crack. Say the word "girlfriend" and you're doomed.
Mods tend to abuse their owers too much.

Honestly, this is good news. I'm glad that Richard is taking the time to re vamp this site.
As far as suggestions go, here are mine.
-Web page:
1. Yes, include an updated, and reliable FAQ. This could be achieved with the help of some posters of this board, esp. the ones that have been here since the beginning.
2. I once posted about changing the layout, and I got "lashed" by some here LOL. Now that Richard is planning to update the page, how about another picture? The colours should stay as they are. That's all.
3. Yes, new mp3's would be nice. However, after the whole parasite fiasco, the mp3's have to be non commercial releases.
4. Yes, the hub should be linked to QZ.
5. Yes, new videos would be great like interviews, snippets of concerts, and the sort.
6. One poster suggested about organising the picture gallery, and deleting the ones that are repeats. I second that suggestion.
7. Some new quizzes would be okay.
8. New screensavers.

Geeks, there's a forums I belong to - somethingawful.com - which has pretty tight moderation, but they're pretty lax about what is posted. They don't read every thread (who could, considering there's over 25,000 people subscribed, and about 3200 on at one time), but are instantly notified if there's some idiocy going on within the threads.
It's actually my preferred method, as it keeps idiots out (it costs $10, a one time fee, for a whole hell of a lot of stuff), and if they really go over the line, they're banned.
However, I agree that on a smaller board like this, moderation isn't necessary, but if we would have to go with moderation, I'd rather we had somebody keeping track of everything, making sure we're not screwing up, instead of just completely abusing their powers and screwing everyone over for posting "kiss' or whatever.
Anyway, I do agree with you.

-The Forum:
1. When a thread goes out for 10 pages, and then by the eleventh page the posts start to get out of order is really an annoyance, and it should be fixed.
2. I used to find annoying typing my email address, and password every time when I wanted to post, but I got used to it. However, it would be easier for some to just incl. a log in.
3. Nathan's (MayboyQZ) suggestion is good. Instead of seeing the first page or post after you posted in a thread, why not the post that you have just posted.
4. There should be Trading/Collectors forum. This can be merged with the MP3 section.
5. Forum testing should be removed. Sorry Mex, Nath, and others. There is chat here, use it. I have, and it quite good. The Chat forum should be removed also, but it is a place where problems can be reported if the chat function on here fails.
6. Listen, if you want mods, smileys, poll functions, avatars, html tags, and quote features? Go to QOL.
I personally do not see the use of having mods here. QZ has a reputation of not needing any mods, and it should stay that way. In order to have mods there should be a set of strict guidelines that have to be followed, and the MOD (s) should be the example (s) of how these guidelines should be followed. Therefore, the mod cannot be hypocritical, have any personal vendettas against any of the posters, and shouldn't abuse their power (being a mod can be a power trip for some). Therefore, finding a good, and reliable mod can be difficult.
A MOD, I assume, has to be fair, mature, and unbiased. Also have the time, and patience to read every single post, and deem if its appropriate or not following strict guidelines. Oh, and also be available to explain WHY, in an intelligent manner, you, the MOD, decided to edit/delete the post.
Do you really think any of us would be suitable for this? I know I'm not. Dark, no offense, but you don't have the "chops" to be a mod either. You say that you believe in free speech, but you are able to ban people and delete /posts that are offensive, use curse words, and spam? Are you really being serious? That's not free speech. Free speech includes everything, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Using the words like “Jakeass” are not appropriate words that a mod should use. About the spamming, and Baer, was it REALLY hard for some of you to IGNORE these kinds of posts?! Also, replying, and egging on the spammer doesn’t help sending a spammer away. You are just prolonging the problem.
Thank you Barb for clearing up the need of not having moderators.
No smileys, avatars, quote features, nor images. Why? Because people like me, and others, who have slow connections, would get easily irritated if a thread will slowly loads itself. Ilike it the way it is. Perhaps, I’m a minimalist at heart.
7. No more sections. Keep Queen, Personal, MP3’s and Chat as it is.

Surely just a basic quote feature
and a few allowed tags (bold, italic) won't slow anyone down by any means or any logic......

Ugh Lester!
Do not remind me of the MLA format! I had to do a 30 page paper about Slash Fan Fiction last year, ughhh! Took me forever to get it right with the MLA :P

A search function with more functionality
No Mods ... if Freddie can curse on Wembley '86 CD/DVD that is good enough for me ...
Actually no changes are absolutely necessary, but any improvements will be nice.
