and I do agree, He wanted to die for our sins, so we would know what he did for us

Come on, folks. Having compiled as many clips as I can of it (mostly off of Fox News - blecccch), I can see that this movie has beaten out Idle Hands, Bloodfist, and Jaws for number of gallons, in thousands, of fake blood used. There are other, more SUBTLE ways to portray agony than staging a skinning! Last I checked, there was nothing in the Bible about anyone being crucified on Gotholga's eyes being drunk dry by blood-soaked birds. That particular detail was not necessary. I mean, why not just bake him on a chargrill and skin him alive, it would take less time! I think Gibson went a little over on the physical agony and a little under on the mental agony.

Well, seeing how I couldn't take the Texas Chainsaw Massacre (and am still not quite over it! -I know, pathetic), I just don't think I could stomach this. It's not that I *refuse* to go, but I don't see the point in payingh $13 to subject myself to more sleepless nights.

And anyway, a (Jewish) lecturer in religion at my university says that Life of Brian is about the most accurate depiction of the life of Christ. I'd rather watch that.

I'm afraid I agree with Roger's famous quote on religion.

I won't be seeing it.

History has told us that everything that happened while Jesus was crucified was true. All we have to do is wait until we see the movie, and realize that perhaps Mel Gibson truly exaggerated about how much Jesus suffered before dying. On the other hand, Mel Gibson could have just been realitstic and he wanted to show the cruel reality of Jesus' death.

If there's someone to be labeled as anti-semitic is definitely Mel Gibson's father.

say that to my grandmother and great grandmother who were in terezin...

anyhow- im not just gonna take someone's word on if its anti-semetic or not, we're going to have an entire lesson (2 hours) on it in my hebrew high school. will it be biased? of course. we probably will only watch clips of the movie omitting all the bloody parts. *looks forward to it*

Many people are labeling Mel Gibson for being anti-semitic about his film, but perhaps all he wants is to show the reality of things and indeed the jews wanted Jesus to be crucified, or at least that's how it's written in the chapters of history.

The only reason why I might say Mel Gibson is anti-semitic is perhaps when he prefered not to speak against his father's anti-semitic comments. Yet he said he respects Jewish people and their religion.

History itself... yet we don't know if everything written in the Bible was true.

At least I've had my doubts.

There is a difference between history and myth. Myth tells us that everythng Jesus went through was factual, history may tell us something different. I don't know either way, since I haven't studied it myself, but I advise strongly against accepting something simply because it's been re-told alot.

To this point it seems like no one has ever called Jesus' existance and his life a myth.

JCS does an outstanding job of showing the mental agony, Amanda. It seems like they could have made Jesus seem more human. It's easier to have an effect on me if I'm feeling sorry for a person with a name, a face, and a personality. And I ain't referring to Jim Caviezel.

i went and saw it with my school yesterday. It was good and very gory but not as big as the school made it sound. Afterward nobody was talking and quite a few people were crying. (i didi cry a little but to much) some parts of it were somewhat over hyped and other parts did not make sence, (judas being chased by the kids and the baby demond) over all the movie was very good. The rest of the day in school was interesting as nuns came in to talk to us girls and priest came in to talk to the boys about joing the vocation. The nuns were very funny and kind of weird. well thats my rant for the month
