Brian playing along with 'Headlong' for a radio show. Very bad idea it was.

Or perhaps the studio version of 'I Want to Break Free' since it's not a guitar but rather an electronic fart sound emulator.

That's funny DF. I saw Brian at HMV in Toronto in '91 promoting Innuendo. He talked, signed autographs and played 3 songs along to a CD (it coincided with Hollywood's release of the Queen catalogue.) TYMD, Under Pressure, then Headlong, which was rather decent until the end, when Brian played an amazing outro after the CD ended. What a moment! If you don't like the power an electric guitar has over people it wouldn't mean much to you but his passion and the sustain he had ringing out still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

Just because it's too fast for your slow ears doesn't mean it's a crap guitar solo. This solo shows that Brian is one or two steps below virtuoso status, and that he definitely had/has the potential to hit such status, if he would really work hard on it. But being as that's not his thing, he doesn't.

Well, perhaps he was having a better day :)

This is the one I'm judging it by:

Don't worry, I know very well of the so-called "requirements" of being classified as a virtuoso. I said Brian definitely had the potential. But overall, Brian was indeed not a virtuoso, and it definitely wasn't his intention to be one.

Big Black - I've got that HMV performance on video, so I'll check it out to see this moment you speak of. Do you have this video as well?

Deacon Fan, I listened to that mp3 of Headlong, and I didn't see anything bad about it. It was just an incredibly loose jam to the song, like most of Brian's performances on his radio tour in '91.

There's no such thing like bad Brian's solo. At least not any I listened..

Hmmm... This is a really tough question. I'll have to think hard about this...

Have to agree w/ DF. I Want To Break Free is probablly the worst "solo" ever released. As for Put Out the Fire, I think that solo carries the song

Also, I have the audio Of Brian's visit to Philly during that Promo. tour in 91. He played long to at least ten songs. I guess he did similar performances at all the statons he visited. The only thing he didn't do & I wish he had was perform some of the Brighton Rock solo. Instead he just jammed w/ his then new Zoom Boxes he was pluging. It kind of reminded me of a rock version of Bijou. But over all it was great to hear him play & tell stories of his past. The meeting of Groucho Marx was a great story.

p.s. Way to St. Joe's!! On to the Sweet 16!!! Hawk will nerver die!

I don't like the solo of Seven Seas Of Rhye, it doesn't fit very well
