I have a question....when I'm through downloading a Torent file, do I have to keep the window open or just keep the file in my hard drive in order to keep others from losing their DL opportunity. I'm new to this and I'm still learning......

Hi, I'm sorry to sound a bit thick, but last night I downloaded my first file via a torrent, using eDonkey as my client. According to the torrent window, I have downloaded 100% of the file, but I can see no way of opening the file itself, as I was never asked where I would like to save it. I thought it might be in my eDonkey downloads file, but alas, no sign. Any ideas?
Cheers

Go to "start" then "search" then "all files and folders" and type in a part of the filename you can remember. It should locate the file for you so that you can open it. I hope this answers your question.

Help me PLS:
I have tried to use bittorent with some links I found on this site. When I tried it says that I'm not authorized to download. I use the same name and password I see in my profile here (I even used clipboard to make sure it's the same) and after # tries I allways get 401 / Unauthorized. What am I doing wrong?

I've asked Bewley for permission to quote the following FAQ from www.savagejaw.co.uk (the Bowie download site) forum located at http://zic.proboards10.com/index.cgi?board=obtsj&action=display&num=1084006517 . I hope this helps some people.

------------------------------
I am collecting, posting, and attempting to answer some of the questions I have seen on the various forums and torrent comments. Please consider this as an addendum to the FAQ found at the Savage Jaw torrent. I hope that this posting will provide some additional information for those new to torrents.

------------------------------
Q: Home many torrents can I leech (download) or seed (upload) at one time?

A: This all depends on your connection speed. A normal cable/ADSL connection can not handle much more than one or two downloads at a time without bogging down. The recommended approach is to focus on a single torrent for a day or two and then move on to the next. By all means, do not attempt to seed or download four or five torrents at a time unless you have the bandwidth (fiber, T1, etc) to handle it!

------------------------------
Q: How long should I keep my client open after download?

A: There is no "set" rule for the length of time. People interested in keeping the torrent going will try to keep their window open until reaching a ratio of at least 1:1 (same amount uploaded as downloaded). Often, this is not possible as the torrent will die out (there are no more downloaders) before a 1:1 ratio is met. If this happens, simply try to make up the ratio on the next torrent downloaded, or better yet, see if there is an old torrent you can re-join to help out (both the downlaoders and your ratio!).

Do not forget, your upload to download ratio is "public knowledge", and on some sites, the administrators may ban your IP address if they perceive you to be a leecher who is downloading and then running. In addition, many torrents are "policed" by users who will report this activity and alert admins of this behavior. Remember, torrents are a "community" effort and if you do not wish to give as much as you receive, then you run the risk of exclusion from future downloads!

------------------------------
Q: I have xxx speed connection, but I am downloading very slowly. Why?

A: There could be a number of reasons for this. Since you are downloading with a group of people, it is possible your connection is faster than the others in the torrent and they are not able to provide you with data fast enough. The people seeding the torrent may be leeching or seeding elsewhere, thus slowing you down. You could be experiencing line problems or the seeders may be focusing on other downloaders with a greater percentage complete (thus attempting to make more seeds) at the moment. So there are a number of things to consider when looking at overall download speed.

Can you do anything about it? Possibly.

Download speeds are only 1/2 of the equation when participating in a torrent – upload speed is very important too. To better configure your client, you need to know your upstream (upload) speed. Most ADSL and cable connections have a much slower upstream speed than downstream speed. If you know your upstream speed, simply divide that number by 8 to determine your maximum speed in Kb/s. For example, a 256K upstream speed equates to a total of 32 Kb/s. If you do not know your upstream speed, then set your client to “Unlimited” and join a busy torrent. Simply monitor your speed… You should get an idea of your Kb/s after 15 minutes or so.

Once you have determined your Kb/s, it is time to configure your BT client. If you are looking to share as much as possible during a download, then set your client to 80% or more of your maximum download speed. If you plan to download quickly and then upload for a while afterwards, you may want to set your download speed to roughly 50% while leeching and then 100% while see

I use Norton internet security 2004. I just let bittorrent connect on all ports.

Because I'm running a firewall, sometimes the light on Bittornado stays yellow and speeds are slower. I'm currently trying to download a torrent off another website which says there are seeds and peers, but when I connect I get no download/upload speed and the light remains red. How do I let the firewall allow bittorrent through all ports?

How exactly do you seed something? Because I've tried but it always says it's leeching again, the only time I can seed anything is immediately after I've finished a download and I don't close it.

COME CREARE I file .torrent:
E' molto semplice. Io uso un programma chiamato MakeTorrent
http://krypt.dyndns.org:81/torrent/maketorrent/index.phtml)

l'indirizzo che devi usare per creare i tuoi torrent (va' inserito in MakeTorrent) e'
http://queenzone.no-ip.com:6969/announce

Ulteriori informazioni... etc. etc... FAQ page (ma in inglese)

COME CARICARE IL TUO TORRENT FILE SU QUEENZONE.COM TRACKER:
Vai al seguente indirizzo per caricare il tuo .torrent file sul tracker di queenzone.com
http://queenzone.no-ip.com:6969/upload.html

e' tutto ...buon divertimento

When I´m seeding a torrent in ABC, after a while it stops seeding and shows just ´completed´. When I press ´resume seeding´ it often starts uploading right away. Problem is that when I go to bed and want to do my good deed by seeding overnight it just does so for an hour or so. I can´t seem to work out why...Anyone?

Does anyone remember Audio Galaxy when it was free to use? Does Bittorent work in the same way?

Another question... Howcome sometimes a torrent is downloading and uploading in a reasonable pace, but when you look at the current seed/peer it can´t find any???
· Member since
I didn't know where to ask this, so I hope I'm in the right place -

I've downloaded a few bit torrents recently - never did that before and jumped in.

Yesterday someone asked to have a file seeded - Freddie's Loves. I opened the file and clicked seed indefinitely but clearly that's not the correct way to do it since uploading remained a 0%.

Please help me. I don't want to be a leech, but I can't figure out how to share what I've received.

Seeding is easy - simply open your torrent and point it at your (completed) file, just like you did when the file was incomplete and you were downloading. You will see zero download speed (normal, since you are not downloading anything) but hopefully you will see an upload speed from people who are downloading your file. You are now seeding.

Depending on the BT client you are using you might have to make some adjustments to the settings - if you have put "seed indefinitely" (in terms of time)this is fine. In terms of volume you might want to set your client to 500% (or even more).

Simple, isn't it? Hope this is of help.

Thanks so much! You do make it sound easy - easier than I thought it was. :-)
