I knew those Southern Baptists were up to something fishy...

All I can say...if I came across some south baptist motherf@#$&* holding a "god hates fages" sign at one of my friends funeral who has died as a result of bashing - someone would have to hold me back from kicking the shit out of that person.
Gay people are not going to take hatred lying down anymore. Two of my friends carry guns with them sometimes.

Well, in all fairness, you asked.
I meant in the future.
We're back to square one. I just said, SATIRE POKES AT THE EXTREMES. Most people with half a sense of humor can handle a little bit of being made fun of. I've gotten very positive feedback on this particular story from people who are very religious Baptists, who are highly embarassed that certain members of their religion use it as an excuse to lord it over everyone else that they consider inferior - especially the members of this Jim Bakkeresque cult. I have run across some VERY funny jokes picking on Democrats, liberals, Bill Clinton, atheists, women, assorted other groups of which I am a member, and humanity in general. I might not agree with the sentiments they express, but I'm not about to call something hate speech which was obviously intended as a joke - I might say it's not funny, and if you don't think our story is funny I'm sure we can both handle that. But cut it out on the hate speech thing.
Memo to Sara: after this, I'm seriously reconsidering my Bill O'Reilly fic I told you about. I shudder at the way people will probably react if they think I'm seriously suggesting that he heads a Japanese assassins clan.

real nice church folk! As a gay guy it makes me sick that people still hate people just because they're gay.
As a straight guy, it makes me feel equally sick.

Look again. I stated that, in another post, Geeks(Mandy?) made a generalisation about the south. Not you.
Yes, you are making fun of a religion. An entire religion. (Or, at the very least, an entire sect of a religion.) You asked what we thought and I gave my opinion. You obviously didn't really want any opinions contrary to your own.
And, for the record, I made absolutely no generalisation regarding either you or Mandy. I kept my statements accurate and pertinent to either this or other threads.
See above.
Excuse me, but have you even realized that Mandy is FROM THE SOUTH? How can she make a generalization about herself? That's like saying that if I made fun of Jennifer Lopez, I hate Hispanics, which would henceforth make no sense because I am one.
And, YES, you ARE making generalizations about us by attacking anything you don't agree with as "hate-speech". Frankly, you are acting like a stereotypical right-wing hypocrite, which I have every DAMNED right to say because I'm a proud Republican, Bush-supporting, pro-capital punishment, pro-life, NRA card-holding CONSERVATIVE, so I have a right to make fun of freaky-ass members of the Conservative Spectrum that give us a bad name among liberals. So, frankly, if you consider the source, it's a Southerner and a right-winger making fun of Southern right-wingers. I don't see exactly what's wrong with that.

I didn't say it made sense or was rational. I simply pointed out the fact that she did.

No it's absolutley nothing like that. Actually, that argument was so lame, it's not even worth giving a counterpoint.
And, YES, you ARE making generalizations about us by attacking anything you don't agree with as "hate-speech".
Don't be silly. I "attacked" the writing and gave it a title I deemed suitable. I made no implications about you or Mandy otherwise. If you want a stereotypical remark, see below.

Sorry, Charlie but I don't buy into the whole "we can make fun of ourselves but noone else can" syndrome. Really and truly, I couldn't really care less about what you say about anyone else, but I suppose I get easily annoyed at, what I feel, are obvious, blatant attempts to cater to the left-wing or more liberal side of the board. Especially lame attempts. In closing, again, I really don't care about stereotyping (I love Reno 911) but just figured I'd turn the tables on an obviously leftist story.
Oh, how silly of me! You were making fun of us, why didn't I realize it! Maybe because your "making fun of us" appeared to be humorless and for God's sake how much clearer do I have to make it, I love the South and I want to live here the rest of my life but that does not change the fact that I am not proud of what it has become and the reputation it has gained from the Yankees and Neil Young aided and abetted by prigs like John Rocker and the further fact that half the region still takes Jimmy Swaggart seriously, including the majority of my neighbors, THOSE are the people we are after, not you, not your family, not the six reasonable adults currently living in suburbian Georgia (I don't know how many there are in Alabama).
The point that Sara was trying to make is, there's no POINT in blasting someone for picking on a group which they belong to, because that person obviously does not take it seriously. It's not like we were actually implying that Southern Baptists look at gay porn magazines or that (in up-and-coming story) Bill O'Reilly actually IS the leader of some nutty assassins clan that kills people by sticking their hands through the victims' hearts.
Also, another innocent question...when he wrote the extremely humorous "Gospel According to Fatty", why did I not see a single complaint about his ugly, generalizing, misinformed blanket statement implying that all Queenzoners are sexually unnatractive? Is it not the same basic principle?
*sarcasm off, no disrespect meant to fatty, you can put the semi-automatics away*

Speaking of pertinent subjects, I hear the Gospel According to Spinal Tap is great. And by the way, to all the sexually attractive QueenZoners, my name is Brian. To all else, it's Ernest Hemingway.

Let me get this straight ...
Trench is conservative and Geeks is southern ...
Therefore, it is perfectly acceptable to generalize, gut, and dehumanize ALL southern baptists.
Fine logic.
... and I never realized that every suburban Georgian (thousands of people) is a moron (with the exception of the 6 people mentioned by Geeks).
I've never felt so enlightened in all my life.

FYI, we were making fun of a CERTAIN group of Southern Baptists - the crazies.
