it easily applies for a female too, that's what I love about Freddie's writing, not like George Michael, his songs are for dudes only :P

BTW, a love song is a love song. Whether it was written man to man, man to woman, woman to woman or anywhere in between.

I don't think Freddie ever did actually write something specifically for Mary. Maybe he did refer to her in some songs ('when I grow older I will be there at your side to remind you how I still love you'). Maybe she wasn't important enough for a song to herself ;-) The only person who could ever know the answer is Freddie himself.

he did.In 1983.It was supposed to be on "The Works" album...but the song never made it to a Queen album because the other bandmembers thought it was far too personal and privat to be on a Queen album.
They said he'd better save it for a solo thing, but regretfully it never was used on either "Barcelona" or "Mr. Bad Guy", but the melody of the song is very beautiful and really gets to you...
Truly one of the finest recordings i have ever heared him on...
It should have been in the ultimate collection box-set, like the Michael Jackson songs and the final live performance he did with Sir Cliff Richard and the Elton John's birthday show appearance he made in the late 70's or early 80's
but then again, we- the fans- are not likely to ever see that released i fear...pitty though...
Well, i guess that the wishful thinking will have to go on for a couple more decades...with he moneymachine running overtime again because of the musical going global(soft) we may aswell forget about "a sort of half-Queen" ever going on tour again or producing new albums with new material...all that happens is yet the same thing in constantly changing casts and sung in the most crazy languages to hear Queensongs being sung in.....money rules?
Times have changed, the world has changed, and the way people are thinking has changed...and so has "Queen"...they're not sitting back, but definately going with the flow...(wich they -by the way-did create themselves....with a little help of a friend)...and who can blame'm for that?

But it is about time, to finally get this/these so often promised anthology box-set(s) out....
More than a teasing Mr. Brooks is all we've had in years, making us listen to all these hidden gems and diamonds...but what did WE get till now from all that? a few crap-quality bootlegs...but not the so long awaited studio-quality-digitally-remastered superstuff.......they may truly be ashamed of that: not having released it yet!
No, the WWRY musical-money-machinery comes first...we have to be pleased with unknowns singing old songs we know in better renditions for decades now....they put themselves and making money first, and we -the fans- are left begging for new material that we won't get.....
They should have put a few unknown songs in that WWRY-machine...then it would be really worthwile buying all these different language versions....and they should have put the originals with Freddies voice as extras on the discs!!!
Wishful thiking.....again.....they chose to do it the easiest way possible....the cheapest way imaginable....still beautiful -don't get me wrong here now,i like the musical very much-
but liking the musical, doesn't even come close to the experience of loving Queen (live).....

Ive heard the rumor about the song we are the champions. I really dont think it is though. And i am the least homophobic person and it would be great if it was. Freddie was just clever and he probably knew it would be a commercial success. I mean i even read in an interview that he made it as an anthem song for just anyone but who knows what truth from lies is in the interviews. I guess we'll never know unless someone has the balls to bother him in heaven.
I shudder to think of Whisperer's reaction when he finds out that the band had to tone down Freddie's original lyrics to Body Language as they were too homoerotic.

the whole Hot Space album was written in a time when Freddie had discovered the New York gay-scene and the clubs...a song like Staying Power (read: i can keep a hard-on without viagra) was written for the guys too...: "see what i've got, i've got a hell of a lot....tell me what you feel...is it real ...is it real...you now i got what it takes and i can take a lot, don't you hear the last call baby you and i got staying power....
