Hem, when my son told me that he wanted to get a job, I was at first concerned that his school work would slip, etc. He promised me that nothing like that would happen, so we made an agreement that he could take his first job, but if I saw any difference in his studying or his school work slipping, he'd have to quit, period. In fact, its been quite the opposite. Working has made him much more responsible, and he's doing great in school. Maybe you could try making a deal like that with your parents. Agree on a "trial" period of time, and that if you neglect your studies, etc, in any way, or if they're not happy with anything about the situation, you'll quit. And then prove to them that you can do it!

What job do you are you gunning for?
you've got to be kidding me:
"I've always wanted to hav my own website. As a matter of fact, I actually don't have a good idea, but I'd like some training putting some test-sites."
and now you want a job as a webdesigner?

I built a home page in computer class using angelfire, very tedious job. Try cashiering for a while.
I used to talk to (and still do occasionally) a bloke in the States who happened to be working for a web design company. Then he just disappeared. Months later he came online and he told me that he'd been given a huge project that earnt him squillions of dollars. He moved to Florida and set up his own company. He was out of the business as soon as he was in it. Set for freakin' life.
I got a job as a singer in a band..it's called Queen.
Wait..I think that was some other guy.. Freddie Mercury.
At the moment I cook. I COOK!

Maybe I'm in a minority but I really enjoy my job, here at Sheffield Hallam University. Thanks in no small part to the constant, unlimited internet access that comes with it as well ;o) Oh yes, and the people I work with who are all really nice, whether they're academics or my admin colleagues.
Hope they keep me on ...

I work at a movie theatre. It's great fun really! Selling popcorn isn't the best job in the world, but on the occasion, I get to be an usher, which I LOVE!
My first job was at a fast food restaurant, which I didn't enjoy very much, but at least it gave me a good experience, and put something on my resume.
