Which one of Queen/Solo's lighting rigs and stage designes was the best in your opinion?
IMHO (from the pictures I've seen) The Works tour had the best lighting rig & I like the stage design as well.

The Works' rig was a monstrosity! I like the Crown rig, nice and square. The band probably suffered burns from it.
the works stage setup - but the 79 pizzaoven lightshow was great

Loved the light rig from the Crazy tour '79. So many lights crammed onto small stages, and the white spotlights arranged around the drum riser were always so effective.
To cast aside the fury of the battle. To turn my weary eyes for home.
The Pizza-oven is just so simple and at the same time impressing. And the "Works"-rig was just beautiful, despite the debatable musical aspects of that tour.
In an indoor arena even the Hot Space and Game-rigs looked very good.
Without being Stepford, I liked all of their rigs from '76 on, cause they were all unique.
Guten Tag und Guten Abend !!! We had a great time in Cologne. Drinking beer in the sunshine beside the Mighty Rhein brought back many memories for me..... (Brian May, 2004)
The first Queen show I saw was at the NEC Birmingham on the Works tour a month before my 14th birthday.Unf'kin real,I was blown to smithereens by the lights smoke, cogs and sheer volume. So thats my favourite set because it was the first time I had experienced anything like that.I saw them twice on the Magic tour which was beatiful, but I'm so glad I got to see them indoors on the Works tour.
which date? i was at 2:9:84

love the design - awesome

I believe the 1984 one was called "The Flying Nun" and I liked it.

The 1990 one was called "The Fly Swatters" and I liked that one as well.

I was not so keen on the 1982 one as it seemed a bit minimalist.

1986 was pretty good, too, but I don't know what its name was. :-(

Sorry, I do of course mean 1980. :-)

Hi Brenski. It was the night before, the 1st.I think the support band was called General Public but they were shite! I was 13 then though so if it wasnt Queen I didnt like it.My tastes have expanded a bit since then.
it was a great period for seeing bands live - between 81 and 85 i reckon i saw a band live at least once eVery tw/o weeks (excuse typing - pet parrot is on keyboa
rd)
anyhow some of the highpoints of this period were queen, ufo, purple, bowie, elton, dire staits, meatloaf, scorpions, ac/dc, blue oyster cult, teardrop explodes, rainbow, rose tattoo

I know this is a very old thread, but here's a little clip of the stage being set up on ''The Works'' tour.

This is from a German TV report and was filmed at production rehearsals. Thanks for posting!
