And I hope the sick bastards who are emailing hoaxes to people posting on the Sky News website trying to trace family, friends, etc., burn in Hell or preferably, drown very slowly in dirty polluted water.

A cousin of mine lives in Bankok with his wife and son. We haven't heard anything from him since before Christmas Day and it is a possibility that he and his family vacationed near the tsunami. Normally we wouldn't be too worried, but he and his sister kept contact every day. It's a bit worrisome here at the moment.

When my Mum worked for Customs & Excise, she had to escort a man onto a flight because he was being deported - it was Pan Am flight 102 that crashed in Lockerbie.

It was flight 103 actually ;o)

Complete disaster, people have died and you're worrying about what number the plane was?

I wouldn't say "worried", exactly. I think it's what's called a tongue-in-cheek comment, accompanied by a " ;o) "

I wasn't belittling Lockerbie or the Asia tragedy in any way, shape or form, so get over yourself.

Complete disaster, people have died and you give a shit what someone posts to me. Mother Theresa is dead, maybe you can fill her robes.

That's a tragedy!

What annoys me most is that they keep repeating in the news "3 Germans may have died"

So what? Over 20.000 people were killed!!!

So sad...

I just realized that I posted this only 6 days ago: "over 20.000 people were killed"

Look at it the death toll now - probably over 165.000!!
It is truly unbelievable.

Yeah, this goes really above my imagination. Thinking of it makes me sick, that's why I better not watch the news these days.
I got to try al little more, because I'm an asshole but I'm learning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfTLkUcQ7QY

I just realised a friend of mine is in India and only got married on 16th December. Fortunately he's been in touch to say he's ok.

i think i know why they tend to "home in on" fellow countrymen....it's because the first thing that is important to most of us is "was anyone we know hurt?" - once we have that confirmed one way or the other, we then tend to absorb the other information

the thing that i'm finding hard to absorb is actually getting a mental pitcure of how many people perished

when the first figures of 50k were reported i could imagine how awful it was by trying to imagine enough to fill celtic park

now the figures are above 150k i can't do it - it's the worst modern-day tragedy - and i can't get ahandle on how bad it is

I was watching a news special on it earlier. I was gutted, I actually did shed a tear. I gave my donation yesterday. Brits have so far raised over £60.000.000 in just a week. Its only something like this that makes you realise how lucky we all actually are. Its just goes to show how things can make you sit up and realise that when you come home from work after a 'bad day', just spare a thought for everyone, not just in the devastated areas, but for friends and family who have lost someone. RIP.

As you may well know I am a complete bastard, I don't do tears & sympathy all that much - and this is not an admission of changing my ways - but I made my donation last week.

What I don't like about the news reports is the way they are "promoting" the news - "biggest catastrophy of all times" etc. Of course it may help to raise money, but it just ain't true. There have been earthquakes with even more victims in the last 40 years, and not so many people seemed to be interested.
Whatever, fact is, we live in pure luxury and this helped me realize it once again. It shouldn't be a problem for anyone who is able to afford an internet connection to donate some euros.

It sounds really nasty but my cousin and his wife were in the north on holiday. As soon as one of your own may be in trouble, suddenly its even more important.

Boxing day, i wonder if he was trying to tell us something...
