I must agree with Mr Stuart.

I have personally have no objection to the trading and sharing of non-official products, bootlegs, this does not affect the band concerned, only talentless leeches who are out to make money from those people who have had to work hard to get where they are.

I must also add that I disagree with artistes, releasing things like this on an a compilation album, and feel the best way for people to make them realise that it isn't acceptable is to boycott the product totally, just don't buy it. This does not mean that anyone has the right to 'steal' this work.

Why is it so easy for users like Deacon Fan to upload edits of official karaoke tracks? Or the Milton Keynes bootleg to be posted on the tracker? And they don't get a bolloking for posting this "new official material"?

I feel Dark is getting a bad deal - and for what? Uploading one track of a song we probably all know and have on the original DATR album. The only difference being that, it's been processed to sound different and is part of a compilation.

I've already said that I'll buy it if it's a single release. But this is the first time that I've ever said no to a compilation like this. If it was part of a dvd-a album, then I'd be sold for sure.

Right or wrong isn't really fair as we mostly own this track already as part of the DATR album. I don't know about some people, but I personally won't buy a whole album to hear how they've cleaned it up. Not really fair to criticise a download, in this case.

Peace,
Adam.

Well, I'll tell you something:

I e-mailed Justin Shirley-Smith earlier last week about whether this mix would be on the DVD-A for ADATR for sure or not, and he said "wait and see", so you never know, it MIGHT be made available outside of Japan.

I've got a feeling that Justin and/or Brian will get wind of this "download tree" that's happening because of me for this particular track (which I COULD just simply stop and not do, but end up disappointing literally over 40 people who have made requests to be on the sending list and losing trust that way), and decide in one way or another to make this available worldwide so they would make more money (not that they necessarily need it so much these days - no offense to anyone, but it's only a few extra Yen / pence in their pockets, and they make tons more money off of playing concerts and re-packaging Greatest Hits 1 thru 3 over and over again)

And I too was thinking that John is a bit of an asshole, who is obviously too biased towards me, as is P_G (who I also have bad blood with that never seems to simmer completely these days).
There have been TONS of downloads made available in the past. Did anyone give a shit when the Queen & John Farnham version of We Will Rock You was made available for a short time PUBLICLY by Mr. Scully? I certainly didn't hear any.
Did people give a shit when the Queen and Annie Crummer AOBTD single was made available on Rien's site? Or the tons of other stuff he's shared as well?

I think I have an unfair biasing (if that's a word) from certain people here, who would just jump at the chance to try and bring me down once more as others have done in the past, given my highly controversial reputation here.

Like I said to John, who is obviously ignoring my comment I made earlier, I am GETTING the CD, especially before it gets sold out completely and discontinued in Japan!

I don't like to argue these days, as it causes me a great deal of stress. I'm only trying to return a favour from many people who have helped me out over the years when I needed something in terms of Queen products or songs. (And yes, I HAVE bought Queen records and DVD's from outside Canada via friends of mine on this board! I don't rely on MP3's entirely, as I myself would rather have a CD source for certain songs, IF they're available, which sometimes they're not)

Anyways I have to go for now as I have to catch my bus.

I will continue this discussion in 1 hour.

I agree both with Mr Stuart and with the others as well. I don´t know what I would do and this is what I feel. As for me the balance depends on the importancy that the song has for me...

1) I agree with you all in that it´s not fair to be "obligued" to purchase a full import compilation just for a different mix (a different case would be an exclusive bonus track such an unavailable elsewhere song - i.e. The Red Special mini-album which had a couple of exclusives). It´s marketing strategy which will hardly work in these "cyber-days" as good as it did in the 90´s.

2) BUT on the other hand, if you´re not willing to make the effort and pay because "it´s just a different mix", then let it be the same reason for not having it anyway... if it´s "just a different mix" then live without it... "it´s just a different mix" should apply both for not being important enough to purchase the legal thing AND for not being important enough to need it. After all it´s just a song (which you all already have anyway in one way or other). It´s not a surviving element... it´s just a song. No one will be hurt for not having it...

Now, if it would be an exclusive track unavailable elsewhere and it would be available for downloading, I would get it that way AND if I consider it good enough, I´d probably go for the real thing.

Silly? Maybe... but I bet than someone else will feel the same way...

Hey my name is mentioned!
During the two-year existence of my site I have made just a few things available that were actually "easy" to buy. (we all make mistakes!) But I bought it, so can others. I ordered cd's - dvd's in Japan, Australia, UK, US and God knows what other places.
Sure I wanted to have a steady group of visitors, which I now have (150-200 unique visitors a day - 60GB of download per month).
That's fun, but it is also costing me extra money to keep my site going.
Nowadays when I purchased something new that can be bought in the shops (wherever that may be), I try to upload a "teaser" (fragment) so others may get interested in buying the material themselves. (Teo Torriatte High Def, Invincible Hope, IWBTLY-jewels video, Karaoke songs etc)

You cannot justify your "illegal" uploads because you say that when you don't, you will dissappoint people that are counting on your promise. Where are you (and they!) when you can't deliver anymore... nowhere. Same goes for me.

And my "tons of uploads" as is mentioned...
Mostly they were taken from my own hometaped videos with material that was broadcasted on tv here in the Netherlands and cannot be found elsewhere. And also songs or vids that people send me to make available on my site.

It sure feels good when you can offer something others don't have (I too downloaded a lot of those bittorrent live shows!) and sometimes offering things can turn against you.

I bought Jewels cd and dvd, so I also bought Jewels II. Of course it's cashing in with those neverending compilations that only gives a little bit extra with that one song or clip. If you don't want it, don't buy it.

i agree with stormtrooper i think its just a bit personal theres been loads of sharing going on, queen are multi-multi millionares and one little song from years ago is not gonna effect them whatsoever, for gods sake that album (1st one)sold over a million copies in only a short while, so chill out, it was a similar thing with the queen rocks album i bought that cd+vid just to get 2 fucking songs what a ripp off and il never do that again, stormtrooper is helping a few of the guys out in here so give him a break,:) if you curse him for it then ya cursing the 40+ who are gonna get the song,

Amen to that

My comments are not meant as a personal attack on anyone. I feel that official product should be bought (regardless of whether the people producing it are multi multi millionaires), a few copies here and a few copies there, won't make that much difference, they all add up you know.

Would the same arguement hold, if the same thing had happened at the start of a band's career and they went under after one or two albums, just think of the music that would have been missed.

And as has been mentioned by another poster, if it's just another remix, why is it so important for over forty people to have it.

Finally surely this kind of discussion is what forums are all about.

Why don't QOL make it available as an official download?

Because they are not very smart bootlegging the bootleggers. :-)

Yeah, I agree with this 100%. If it's not important enough to spend your precious pennies on, then it's not worth stealing.
Playful as a pussycat.

Who said, and I quote, "it's just a different mix"? It's just barely that. Like my last post mentioned, it's merely a re-created, "processed" and "cleaned up" version of the original mix.

There's no good reason to argue about all this. It's such a shame it's happening.

Peace,
Adam.

So the point of owning it is?

By the by I also believe that band's that do this sort of thing should be made to provide a copy of the track to anyone who can prove that they own the original, (unless it can be proved that it is substantially different). The same goes for albums, that would stop them from trying to make money several times over from the same product.

To all of you calling uploading a remix of 1 track stealing from Queen: Has anyone ever considered that Queen (the company and business, not necessiarly the band) is trying to screw over the fans?? Why should we who own every single CD and DVD, loads of merchandise and have supported them for many many years, have to pay some $20+ to buy yet another compilation simply for the bonus tracks. I seriously think that Queen now has more compilations that regular albums and to "force" the die-hard fans to keep buying these compilations for 1 or 2 REMIXED tracks!!! There isn't even any NEW songs, just remixes. If Queen wants me to buy this rather than d/l ing it for free, they should make them available as CD singles OR downloads on QOL. There's just no fucking way I will spend so much for 1 remix. I feel the same way about reissues of CDs, why should I rebuy albums--or songs-- that I already own for 1 or 2 new or remixed songs?? It doesn't make sense to me.
