I live in the USA, but of course the world knows what happened here on Sept 11th 2001.....our tv stations probably showed those 2 jets crash into New York City's two World Trade center towers between 500-1000 times in the weeks thereafter.
Every American I have ever seen will stop and watch everytime.
Of course we know the outcome, and its not good... but it just sparks the interest so much, you can't help it.
I would say Queen is 99% of this board's members favorite band.
Queen's most popular, most famous, and most beloved member having AIDS is VERY MUCH part of the history of Queen.
You cannot deny this.
If a person wants to listen to just the music, thats fine.... but if some of us want to go beyond the music, then we naturally, at some point will have to come face to face with Freddie's illness.
Trust me, I'd would MUCH RATHER have Freddie here making music, and celebrating his 59th birthday this Septemeber with all of us.
If Freddie were here, I myself would still go beyond the music, and look for lost interviews, and study articles of what Queen's members do in their spare time, what hobbies they pursue outside of music..etc..etc..
But that's not what happened.
Freddie died of one of the world's most feared diseases 2 months after is 45th birthday.
This is Queen history, and a very important part of the Queen history.
I label myself as a Queen purist. Meaning, I pretty much agree with everything John Deacon has said about the group, which Deaky has pretty much said: "Freddie cannot be replaced, without Freddie there is no Queen, and I have retired from the music business".
Freddie's illness and final days intrigues more people than just myself, or Peter Freestone and Jim Hutton wouldn't have included chapters on the subject.
For me, Queen was Brian, Rog, John + Freddie from the early 1970's to Nov. 1991. Thats how long Queen lasted. Queen died in Nov. 1991, (John Deacon will agree).
I just try to learn everything I can about the group in that span of time. Freddie's illness is a major topic of discussion as that is what ended the band.
John Deacon would have went on as long as Freddie was there, I have NO DOUBT in the world about this.
Everyone in the music industry as always said how smart John Deacon (the quiet Queen is), to me this was proven by him knowing when Queen was over.
Good point, but as I said there's a lot of interesting things in Queen's history besides Freddie's death.
I don't think people would remember about USA only because of September's tragedy, so most of us here don't want Queen to be remembered because of AIDS.
