I wouldn't call this interpretation of BoRhap a good idea but I don't think they had any other choice. They HAD to play it, otherwise many fans (yes, me included), would be disappointed. And if I can choose between Rodgers' vocals or Freddie's playback vocals, I think the latter option is better.

Well, I hope they come to the states so I can review a show.

One thing is for certain, I won't hold it against them that they can't possibly be what they used to be.
I will be grateful and thankful that Brian and Roger are playing together on a stage in the US for the first time in two decades.
I will be in the moment and I will enjoy watching masters at their craft. If they do something that I don't find all that good, I'll be more forgiving than spiteful towards them.

After all, these musicians have done nothing but make me feel good in my lifetime. Why in the hell would I harbor any ill will towards them at all.

They don't owe me a thing, in fact if anything, I feel like I owe them my support.
Which is what they get from this fan.

I read that Paris was a better show, so after 1 gig improvement already :-)

Ok so how much of Track 13 was actually played? I've heard everything from 11 to 23 minutes (I'm guessing it probably just seemed liked 23 minutes :) Maybe they have some cool lighting planned for it when they have the rest of their lights. (Or they could just play it along with the end of the 2001: A Space Odyssey movie ;)

Is there some kind of in-joke with Brian and Eminem? Does anyone know why that was used?

What footage was used for the opera section of Bo Rhap? Just the original music video?

I hope they come to the US because I really want to sing along with '39 live :) They had dropped that by the time I saw them in 1980 :( I don't know why people think that's such an obscure song...it used to get airplay, and one of my non-Queen fan friends in college here in the US knew it about 10 years ago. And yay there wasn't ANOBTD!

If they come here, I'm worried I'll cry when God Save The Queen plays at the end :)

I reckon Paul Rodgers is very uneccessary. Get a 'spare' drummer and let Roger and Brian take turns singing the songs.
Does anybody else who was at Brixton think they could do this? It was what I wished they would do, but when I said it many replied that they thought Roger and Brian wouldn't be able to handle it.

For me, like for many others, the main problem with this tour is that it would be too sad to hear someone else sing instead of Freddie. I know this is sentimental and emotional but that's how some of us are. I don't think I would have the same attitude if it was just Brian and Roger, and maybe John...

To be fair Paul was the only one that looked like he couldn't handle a full set (or the crowd). PR was missing from the stage for a long time. Rog and Brian would piss it, and it would be better.

There seems to be a misconception that people who didn't think PR was great, or who dared find any fault with the show is living in the past, or comparing the new band to the old band. Well I'm 25 and never saw the original queen, nor any of them solo, so I was starting from a blank canvas so to speak. Obviously I've seen DVDs and all that so I know what they were about. I was merely reflecting from my experiences of other concerts and comparing them to this. Everyone was ace apart from PR. He's just not as good at what he does as Rog and Brian are. end of.

£55 + a lot for postage and booking bollocks is a lot of money. Having seen Bowie 4 times in 2002/3/4 (I suppose one of the nearest comparisons to queen in terms of price, era/age, success) queen looked a fair bit off, even allowing for the fact they've not toured for a while. Bowie's setlist had songs for the fans whilst not ignoring the hits, and has a good balance between new, old, hits and rare songs. Hopefully queen will get there after a few shows, but the show I saw I reveiwed honestly as I saw it and I reckon PR isn't needed!

Nobody matters and This is depressing me, I know a strange one Could change all of this....

Kissarmygirl, I hear ya! I totally agree - I would also compare them with the Queen as the world knew and knows it....and that's just not fair. I am re-thinking seeing this band when and if they come to the USA, whatever they need to be called, because this is turning out just as I feared....there is only 1 group named Queen and only half of them were on stage that night - how can that really be Queen????? They can put the + Paul Rodgers name on this tour all they want, but people are instinctively going to expect Queen - and that is just not going to happen. I really kind of feel sorry for Paul Rodgers...what big shoes he has to fill....as far as the kids on stage behind Roger, I agree with Basje on this one too - that's pretty unprofessional...I am pretty sure whoever's kids those were could afford a nanny or sitter for that night.

Part of the problem here is getting valid criticism by someone without an agenda. Either it's the 'Paul sucks/Queen died in '91" camp saying the new line-up can do no right, or "the Stepfords" saying Queen can do no wrong. While understanding that Brian and Roger can't please everybody, and without having seen the shows to date, wouldn't these qualify as valid concerns from fans?

1. The setlist: It does seem very predictable. How about a gem here or there? I know it's a hard song to sing, but why couldn't 'Long Away' be incorporated into the 39/Love of my Life set once in a while? Or Liar, Sweet Lady, or Roger doing Drowse with Paul handling the lower vocal? A surprise here or there (it's early, but doubtful it'll happen) would throw a bone to long time fans. I wouldn't classify Seagull as a well known Bad Company song (I'm mildly familiar with BC), so why couldn't we get something obscure here and there?

2. The stage set-up: If these guys are good enough to tour with Brian, Roger and Paul, they're good enough to share the whole stage. Saw The Who with Pino Palladino on bass, he was very much a Deacon/Entwistle stage presence, but they weren't trying to bury him in the back, as the did with the keys and second guitarist who played behind the drums, virtually out of sight. It looked and felt weird, like they were session musicians playing a gig, not part of a band. Is it possible they'd change this set-up to make for more interatction?

3. The opening: Reaching Out, as described, is bizarre. Paul Rodgers as the first guy on stage at a Queen show in 20 years, playing acoustic guitar to an unknown song? Terrible choice. 20 minutes of track 13 is ludicrous also.

Of course I haven't seen the show, but I also haven't seen the musical and know that the story is ludicrous and cliche.
You know, good times are now.

"Ok so how much of Track 13 was actually played? I've heard everything from 11 to 23 minutes (I'm guessing it probably just seemed liked 23 minutes :)"

No, 23 minutes were played, I know that for sure :-)

"Is there some kind of in-joke with Brian and Eminem? Does anyone know why that was used?"

Maybe because Eminem borrowed part of WWRY for one of his songs, if I remember well?... who knows...

At least it was Lose Yourself (I think) which is the only Eminem's song that I know :-)

"What footage was used for the opera section of Bo Rhap? Just the original music video?"

No, some mixture. For the balladic part they used Live At Wembley video, for the opera part it was a mixture of videoclip and some other footage, if I remember well.

"I hope they come to the US because I really want to sing along with '39 live :) And yay there wasn't ANOBTD!"

I couldn't agree more! :-)

How does the use of more B/R songs generate more income than using Freddie ones? You don't get royalties from performing a live song, otherwise tribute bands & pub bands couldn't exist.

I still (on a ahem second listen) can't hear many lyric errors, and I think any vocal performance differences should be treated the same way as Brian's "re-interpretation" of LOML, '39 (technically he missed verses out and changed the words, since we're being extra picky) and the Alright Now riff, ie part of a live performance, and to be expected.

Finally, does this mean that Basje's recordings (I refuse to believe he didn't make any) will be cheaper as he perceives it to be sub-standard?
L
HAHAHAHAHAHA - PenetrationGuru, Basje did probably try to do some recordings........sorry, Bas, my love.....that's just too funny!!! LMAO!

So what were people doing for that whole time?? Last trip to the toilet, going for a drink, rolling their eyes, checking their cameras, jumping up and down in anticipation?

The Eminem thing is just weird, I'm sorry people..

In Paris most of the audience (I guess the part of the audience that was French) just boo-ed during the eminem track to show they did not like this part at all. During the rest of the show the audience was really great by the way.
In my view Queen is building up the tension with the Queen intro, then confusing the crowd with this non-Queen track (everybody's wondering what on earth is going on) and then just blowing everyone away with the next Queentrack.
Very tongue-in-cheek I believe.

Paris really ROCKED.
Brixton was very intimate and one could doubt if the show would be allright 2 days later in Paris, but I think it was. The lights, the music, the interaction with the audience also by Paul went great.

Oh and it was nice to meet you in Brixton, Martin.

btw I've just read Basjes report and his disgust about the Queen show. Why don't you put your money where your mouth is and let Brian know what you are telling the folks here on Queenzone instead of kissing Brian's ass at the gate where he took the time to shake hands with his fans?
Actually don't bother, because Brian is aware of things.

uh-oh, did Rien just bust Basje? Here we go....
GO, GO, GO LITTLE QUEENIE!!!!!!!!!!!

Penetration_guru...NO, i did NOT record. I am NOT a bootlegger. Never was, never will be.
Rien: my opinion is - as written- my own and honest opinion. The fact that they fucked up the show, it was disaster all over, doesn't mean i do not like to see my long time hero and get a chance to talk with him. Those are 2 different things. I am never kissing off people. I am too well known for that ! As a matter of fact, just to let you know, i DID mail Jim Beach, Phil Symes, Paul Rodgers and Brian myself with ALL my feelings and disgust.I told them exactly what i think of it all, and gave them a few ideas and suggestions too, but ignorant and full of yourself as you are (with your ego-all-over, self promoting -look-how-good-i-am-and-everything-i-do, site of yours) ofcourse you didn't know this! Well darlings, I am man enough to face them and tell them it was shit from a to z.
I am by NO means a coward like you. I am not the back chat type of person that you have proven to be many times....
I have seen more Queenshows than many others on this forum, and i know what i am talking about. I can tell the differences between good and bad. I see things happening that you are just too shortsighted for to see happening, and even if you were looking at them, you wouldn't even know what you were looking at at all.
Little things, moves, signals, looks in the eyes, the people around in the curtains, i see EVERYTHING. you just stare at Brian and Roger...

But, this is NOT to be continued. I have let out some steam and got rid of some pressure here and now, but i will NOT and NEVER tolerate others (who do NOT even know me, or anything about me, other than from hear-say stories)to give me a bad name and accuse me of things i do NOT do!
So, if you 2 do NOT apologise to me for the insult or accusations you have spread on this world wide web for all to see and read...pray you won't see me at a show....because i am man enough to face you guys in person too, and then you may try to be a hero and make my day by stating these false and incorrect statements right in my face...if you have the balls to do so!
Don't tease me if you don't know how to handle me in person. Through the safe distance that the internet offers, you are cowards enough to throw with dirt. Do that right in my face...please!

end of discussion.period. i'm done.
