I was reading "The Eye" the weekend arts & entertainment section of London's newspaper The Times at Borders Books & Music in Rockville, Maryland Sunday, and there is a Hilarious reference in an article which discusses Kurt Cobain...about Kurt being a weeny...in Kurt's own admission that he felt he was inferior to Freddie Mercury as a frontman.
In the 4/9/2005 edition of "The Eye" is a Cover Story about James Dean, which then discusses how certain entertainment idols that died...compared with their living contemporaries.
Some examples they used were:
Ian Curtis versus Bernard Sumner
Here's the Kurt Cobain one.
Kurt Cobain versus Eddie Vedder
Quote "Grunge thrust both of these Seattle frontmen into the limelight. When one decided to take his own life, all that remained was a heap of rambling, incoherent self-pity. But that's enough of Cobain's suicide note. After 1994, Pearl Jam's Vedder finally accepted that there was no shame in being the singer in a mainstream rock band."
"And Cobain? What a shame Courtney (Love) didn't Tipp-Ex the bit where he said he killed himself because he wasn't as good a frontman as Freddie Mercury."
"Verdict: It's not good to top yourself, let alone because they never called you
Mr. Fahrenheit."
Ok maybe it is in bad taste, but it IS TRUE to an extent...and sarcasticaly pokes fun at what a doofus Kurt Cobain was, taking his own life when he had so much to live for, and when in his suicide note, he whined that he couldn't compare to Freddie as a frontman, (I believe as I recall, Cobain's ACTUAL suicide note did NOT say Kurt literally killed himself because he wasn't as good a frontman. Of course this article is trying to be sarcastic and funny, it exaggerates)...
(But as I recall in the ACTUAL suicide note Cobain whined about how he envied Freddie for loving and adoring his audiences and thus, Freddie derived love, adoration, and energy off and from the audiences, something Cobain said he was incapable of and said he couldn't comprehend or feel.)

It wasn't a suicide note though, it was merely a rough letter that was intended to made into a press release stating that he was retreating from the music business.
Kurt Cobain. idolised by mindless teens wanted to be alternative
A pointless article.
He didn't even compare himself as a frontman to Freddie. he just said he couldn't continue like Freddie, becuase the adulation fom loving fans that kept Freddie strong didn't mean anything to Kurt anymore.

Indeed, i think he's waaay overrated.
He wrote some nice poptunes but that's it really.
I have ALWAYS hated the whole grunge movement and its leader Cobain & Nirvana. People who made music that was full of whining despair, despondency, depressing...coming from a bunch of spoiled middle class kids who had everything.
Freddie LOVED life, embraced it, wanted so very much to live, had friends, family, his music... and fate took it away just like that when he became ill with AIDS.
Cobain had everything to live for, music, fame fortune, fans, family, a wife,...a new baby daughter who selfish idiot that he was he left fatherless, everything to live for, and he kills himself.
I am not very religious but I believe in God and I have faith. I don't understand, no matter how hard (or in Cobain's case how easy) life is, why someone takes their own life...
and I think about people everyday who have cancer, horrible diseases, live in war torn countries, with famine and abject poverty...and Freddie...all who loved life so very much...in spite of the pain and suffering they endured. Freddie worked and made music almost until the day he died. He LOVED making music and sharing it with the world. He had no choice..A terrible disease ended his life.
Cobain, if he idolized Freddie so much..should have had the intelligence, when he thought of committing suicide...to reflect on what Freddie went through...and how Freddie had NO choice, even though Freddie WANTED to live despite his disease putting him through horrible unimaginable pain and suffering...and so he died from an awful disease. Cobain should have put this in perspective and appreciated all that he had, lord knows whatever emotional pain Cobain had or issues he needed to resolve within himself, could not compare to Freddie's body being ravaged by AIDS...Cobain should have gotten some good counseling and help if he was having emotional problems...and chosen...life. Think about the daughter he could have seen grow up... What a cowardly loser. Angers me so.
Freddie..on the other hand was brave, and full of hope, light, life, music, inspiration, and faith until he passed. Freddie IS an inspiration...and a heartfelt mindful lesson for us all...of embracing the gift of life...even in the face of adversity.

Cobain was a weak person and had a shitty life since he was a kid.
I don't think that's something to get angry about. Cobain was a complete psycho suffering from depression. I don't believe that it had anything to do with Freddie Mercury. At least not with the PERSON Freddie Mercury, perhaps with his ROLE as one of the best lead singers in history. But certainly not with him personally or with his desease or his life style or his attitude.
ok Cobain had depression.poor guy

Read this thoroughly...this IS what I said. I said Cobain SHOULD have gotten some GOOD counseling to help him with his depression and emotional issues...
But what I went off on, was that Freddie had a terrible, raging, terminall illness, which put him though horrible physical...and emotional pain and suffering...you can bet Freddie's physical state wreaked havoc on his emotional state as well and that he was depressed..with a REAL reason..yet he loved life, loved making music until he died. He was brave and solderied on til the end.
I do understand that people with Clinical depression think their life is often worse than it is. But Cobain was an idiot. He did TONS of heroin, which he admitted in his diary...made his emotional and physical state...worse and became a ddownward spiral of self destruction. Cobain had a newborn baby daughter that he left fatherless because he was an idiot. He should have sought help instead of zoning out on drugs and alcohol.
Look at Freddie..when he got AIDS, he quit smoking, drinking, and drugs...and hoped that a Cure would be found, but in the meantime, he NEVER gave up HOPE!
Cobain, people like Ernest Hemingway (who also compounded his depression by bei

Seriously...you ARE doing the right thing. Clinical Depression CAN be helped with proper treatment and a GOOD therapist. If treatment does not work, get a NEW therapist and try different prescibed medication.
But PLEASE do NOT go off on alcohol and drugs. That can make a NON clinically depressed person emotionally unstable and suicidal. Cobain was a fool. You can be SMART! and live a happy and normal life.
Think of Freddie, and how much he embraced the life he did have. Well you do that. Life is too short to not make the happiest and most of it.
