Seriously... I'm not the biggest fan of Cobain but do you really think that someone as desperate as Kurt was that he's about to kill himself thinks about others who are dealing with a deadly desease and whether it's unfair to others who want to live but can't? I don't think so. I think someone that kills himself is VERY sick. And how desperate can someone be that he finds that suicide is the only way out... I think it's rather sad than selfish.
As for loved ones... who was there in Kurt's life apart from Francis-Bean? Courtney? She did heroin during her pregnancy so she's not much better than Kurt.

yup I havent compounded my depression. I still dont do drugs even though most people I know do.
I socially drink, but thats about it.
Seriously...you ARE doing the right thing. Clinical Depression CAN be helped with proper treatment and a GOOD therapist. If treatment does not work, get a NEW therapist and try different prescibed medication.
But PLEASE do NOT go off on alcohol and drugs. That can make a NON clinically depressed person emotionally unstable and suicidal. Cobain was a fool. You can be SMART! and live a happy and normal life.
Think of Freddie, and how much he embraced the life he did have. Well you do that. Life is too short to not make the happiest and most of it.
I dont intend to. when I drink its hardly binging. I dont even drink spirits, just a few pints on a hot day is nice, or a friday evening or saturday night. but thats it.
Kurt was a prat. Vastly overated and thought he was the biggest thing since sliced bread AND had the nerve to mock people better than him ie Axl Rose. Axl is 100 times the man Kurt would EVER have been.
I personally think Kurt Cobain was a pretty decent guy. Just lived the rock and roll lifestlye, and wasn't really ready for such immedaite and outrageous fame.
All this, coupled with perhaps not the easiest upringing, drove him to suicide (if you believe Courtney Love didn't kill him).
I don't think this makes him any less a person for killing himself. Just becuase some of you don't agree with his motives for taking his own life, doesn't make them invalid fomr Kurt's point of view. He didn't want to continue, simple as that.

And Axl Rose is a complete idiot, to suggest he is a better man than Kurt is ludicrous. I recently read his autobiography, and he suffered form very bad depression, alcoholism, compulsive obsessive dissorder, had many many twitches etc. As a child, his dad was very ill and this scarred him, he witnessed a few friends of his, at varied ages, die before him (car accidents etc). All this scarred him, as he blamed himself. His footballing injuries left him isolated though which he turned to alcohol to remedy his problems. COnstant spending of his money, problems with his wife and the inability to admit his problems to anyone didn't help him at all. Does this make him a better or worse person than Kurt? Paul felt some similar feelings to Kurt, but obviously different situations caused these. The main different is, although Gazza thought about suicide, he thought it perhaps too selfish. Now, Paul used his football (much like Freddie his music) to try and live his life. Would you honestly say Paul Gascoigne would have been any less a man if he would have ended his life? Or would he have just done it to get out of his problems?

Was it smart of Cobain to use drugs? No, but depression can fuck up your mind so I wouldn't be too quick to judge.
i thought Cobain died because he was so fcuked up on heroin because of his depression he killed himself. none of this comparing himself to freddie.

Wake up and smell the coffee GreatKingSam Kurt was a big headed prat who thought the world owed him everything - no one respects him. Suicide is the easy way out and if you use drugs you deserve everything you get. Oh and Axl is a class act and a SUPERSTAR - something Kurt NEVER was. Also Axl had a shed load more talent than the worthless Cobain.
Cobain was a coward as I said who made things worse with his substance abuse. I hate grunge, Nirvana, & Cobain..that music and Cobain were and are a terrible, negative role model for young impressionable kids who look up to rock stars.
What was he thinking? If show business and music were too stressful for him..all he had to do was retire and live out his days being the father his daughter should have had. He was financially set for life. All he did was whine about the stresses of th music business.
Hey walk a mile in millions of everyday people's shoes who work 2-3 jobs trying to feed their family, pay their bills, just to put a roof over their head. That's stress. Cobain should have gone into rehab, sobered up, retired and lived a nice life collecting royalties and getting good mental health therapy. No offense but I never felt sorry for him.

Freddie even was going blind in the end, and living on pain killers. Yet he NEVER complained, not once. Freddie loved life, loved and continued to make the best music of his life. He remained a good friend, colleague to his bandmates and friends and family, and he always had and never gave up HOPE... A wonderful and POSITIVE role model for us all.

arlene, that's way to harsh, your right people have problems and he was one of those troubled ones. you don't know how he was feeling when he pulled that trigger, anyway, i to was never a nirvana person (grossly overated) but don't judge so harshly, you must remember everyone reacts differently to problems.

Good observation. Simply put, nobody here can possibly imagine what pain was eating Kurt alive when he pulled that trigger. However, I do think it was cowardly for him to choose his feelings over his daughter's feelings, who would never have a father growing up and for the rest of her life.
But again, then there are the theories of Courtney killing him...

For example, one of my best friends dad died last Friday evening of a sudden and unexpected heart attack. No nineteen year old shoud go through this. Both myself and him have taken this as a sign that life is too short. But perhaps things got too much for Kurt, despite your obvious preconceptions, and he didn't take it a sign to buck his ideas up, but to end his life, to stop his personal pain and fears.
Freddie was a great man yes, and we'll be plessed as a nation - world even - to have another pure and decent entertainer and person walk this Earth again. We all know that. But just because he was so greta, you have no right to quash other peoples problems regardless of how important or inferior you consider them to be due to how much you dislike grunge or whatever other pointless reason.
A few years ago, another family friend of ours found herself a new man and father to her two children. He had sufered from serious depression, and was now recovering well. He was a top bloke, met him a few times at a couple of parties and weddings etc. Every thought he was passed his days. Unexpectedly a few months after meeting him, they came home from the school run one afternoon to find him hanging from the roof in their study. He had not been happier. Does this make him less of a person? May you suffer for saying otherwise. Perhaps sometimes, no matter how well peopole can cover things up, there is still only one way out. Perhaps it is the most selfish, but that isn't really for us to decide, as for those who take their own life, it is exactly that - their OWN life, and they may do with it what they please. I'm not suffering, Cobain's fatherless daughter is and will the rest of her life. And did you know that psychiatrists say that the NUMBER one person who suffers after a suicide, is any child..who then becomes ten times more likely to ALSO then suffer depression, blame them selves (for which they should NOT), and also become suicidal. What a terrible hand to deal his child.
