Why are there so many people who only consider music from their own decade(s)as the only good music? Radiohead was by far the most influential band from the nineties. If you don't know them, don't judge other people for listening to them. The fact that you're unfamiliar with them makes you a musical fossil. Every decade has it's brilliant bands, people who aren't willing to see this haven't got a decent vision (only one vision) on music. They like music because of nostalgia.

These days there are plenty of brilliant bands:
- Audioslave
- Coldplay
- The Mars Volta
- Muse
- Placebo
- Radiohead
- System Of A Down
- Queens Of The Stone Age and so on ....

Like there wasn't any shite music during the seventies and eighties (Donna Summer, BeeGees, Culture Club Aaaarghhhh!!).

I love bands from the sixties, seventies and eightties(Deep Purple, Dire Straits, Metallica, Pink Floyd, QUEEN!!, Rainbow, Rolling Stones, Rush), but there were als good bands during the nineties and beyond (Gun's 'n Roses - part eightties I know -, Dream Theater, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Portishead, Radiohead) so cut the crap!

It's a simple fact that this Radiohead band have not changed or defined music. Most people over 40 will have not heard of them. Same with Oasis only ever popular in UK and parts of Europe. have achieved fuck all in the US and other parts of the world. Simple fact the people who voted for this pile of shit are mostly drugged up stupid students.

Radiohead have actually influenced a lot of bands. Muse for example were influenced by Radiohead and they are now very popular in the UK, Japan, France, Russia, etc. So Radiohead's influence is affecting music the world over...
Whether or not you like them or whether they're actually any good etc is a matter for opinion, but it is a fact that many bands since them have been influenced by them, so they have changed music.

As for people over 40 not having heard of them, that may be true, but since when was over 40s the only valid audience for music? Bands aim are generally formed by and aimed at the younger generations. Are you saying bands are only cool or valid if my *dad* has heard of them?? Surely the opposite applies! I'm sure in the 70s there were lots of over 40s who didn't like the stuff going on at the time.

They did and about defining music: Who'd came up with something completely original? Music is an everlasting process. Those bands from the sixties based their work on earlier music, change it and grew. Nobody ever worked out something completey new. Same goes for the seventies and other decades (Jimmy Page and Ritchie Blackmore made a lot of their songs from existing bluesriffs). What frustrates me is that some people think that only the music from 1963-1980 has an alltime status. Which is not true.

Ok let's make a difference between Oasis and Radiohead. Oasis only has a decent fanbase in te UK and some European countries that's true. Also isn't their music a big influence for many other bands (as far as I know), but that doesn't count for Radiohead. This band has had (and still has) a big influence on a lot of bands (don't like the Radiohead - Muse comparison) even on bands in genres you'd least expect (Dream Theater = progressive metal). They've got an extensive fanbase around the world. Radiohead is exploring the boundaries of music in the same way Pink Floyd once did. Same (exploring) thing goes for The Mars Volta (we'll be hearin' a lot from these guys in the future).
