i agree completely with this
it seems obvious that many people around here have never listened to FAITH or LISTEN WITHOUT PREDUJICE
GM's vocals better fit queen's harmonies - but on the other hand PR has taken queen back to the SMILE generation - perhaps thta's what RT and BM wanted when they recruited him?
Exactly! What did Brian say before tour? They're doing it because it sounds DIFFERENT, because he sings them in DIFFERENT way and takes them to a DIFFERENT level. Whether you like it or not is another thing BUT that's why they did this Tour and that's why it's someone like Paul and not George or Robbie. I could agree taht George would fit this better IF the songs were to be sang the same way. But that wasn't the plan. They wanted something fresh, and that what made Brian move his ass from Dominion Theatre and go and play some rock'n'roll. not Robbie, not George, not Charone- Paul with his voice made Brian do that. As he said- it's some kind of miracle... And he said in Classic Rock- if you'd asked him about possibility of touring few months earlier he would have said no... Paul did the impossible, Brian stopped tinkering with WWRY and played some great, great shows...

George Michael is a great singer.
I have all of his stuff, and any live footage I can.
But the problem would be that George himself has said "When I grew up, Freddie (Mercury, duh) was everything to me, I would sit in front of the mirror for hours pretending I was him, fronting the band singing "Somebody to Love"...... most all of my vocal style, I have got from him."
Brian May has said that:
"George Michael is the only other singer that I will hear off in a distance, and think, is someone playing a Queen song??? then when I get closer, no, its George..... he is full of Freddie-isms."
OK ...THATS COOL.... if the guitar player for Queen, who worked more closely with Freddie for 20 years, thinks that in some ways you sound like Freddie.... then that is a MAJOR compliment in itself.
I wish someone thought I sounded like Fred.
But thats the same reason why George isn't doing it.
1) George has officially retired from the music business, saying the business is "bullshit".
2) George would be like a Freddie-impersonator.
I think George could do believable/likeable covers of most of Queens catalog...
Thats just it though... close covers look like "Freddie's replacement".
I can't stand that idea.... nope, not even from George.
Paul Rodgers is a world class singer who sounds/looks/acts nothing like Freddie Mercury.
He adds his own style to the songs, he treats the legend of Freddie Mercury with much respect, and Paul is a class act.
Paul Rodgers doesn't come out and try to do his best Mercury impersenation.... Paul Rodgers comes out and tries his best to be Paul Rodgers.
He never acts like he "replaced Freddie"..... he explains he's "simply filling in because Freddie is no longer with us."
I like that, and like him.
Brian & Roger have the right guy for the job.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
but listening to his solo songs
i think i'd love to hear him doing studio stuff with queen
he write great stuff, and with Brian/Roger - the song-writing would stay queen-ish but have a different George-like feel to it

Basically any of the rockers I think he would struggle with quite a bit.
And I can't imagine an encore of Wake Me Up Before you Go Go into WWRY WATC.
Well, I can guarantee you that he'd do them better than Paul Rodgers. He's a better singer. Just because he DOESN'T sing heavy rock songs doesn't mean he CAN'T.
I like George Michael. I think he's a very good singer. But to even suggest he could do a better job of being a rock singer than Paul Rodgers is laughable at best. I bet George himself would laugh at that suggestion.
Rodgers was belting it out before George had peach fuzz on his nuts.
It amazes me that certain fans of such a quality band like Queen can be so closed minded at the same time towards one of Britian's greatest musical sons.
Here's a fact. Try to refute this one.
In the entire 48 year history of rock n roll,
Paul Rodgers has the distinction of being the ONLY
lead singer to lead three bands to international multi-platinum success.
Out of all the great singers, Paul is the only guy to have acheived this.
Isn't that worth a least a little bit of respect if you are going to call yourself a connoisseur of quality rock n' roll?
Think about it.

Sammy Hagar killed Van Halen, not Gary Cherone. Or perhaps more apprioprately, Eddie Van Halen and any alcohol he could find killed Van Halen
listen to OU812, you'll see what I mean. "Feels So Good" such a cheesy, bad song. Then flick back to Fair Warning and "Push Comes to Shove", how the hell are both of them from 3 of the same personnel!
there were occasional glimpses of greatness...but nothing compared to their first 6 albums with Roth.

Anyway- would I want to hear few Gearge Michael tracks added to the setlist? Not really...
And I loved the Bad Company / Free stuff they played...

Didn't Gary already ruin Van Halen? I shudder to think that Gary could have dragged down Queen. Wasn't Blobby, 5ive and Britney bad enough?

LMFAO!!! Of course im not bitter ...but I dont think ive ever seen that commercial in which you speak of. But its a shame that they would sink to such a level I think....I wouldnt care to hear it at all... infact i spit on that as much as i spit at Robbie Williams tearing apart a masterpiece such as we are the champions.

I would rather they hired Bryan Adams than Cherone.
