Oasis and Coldplay are boring, you're right. Well, Oasis were good, but I'd be a dissapointed fan if my favourite band took time out and came be with something completely the same as to what I've heard before.
But give it a rest, the White Stripes being the most overrated? Blues/rock is an awesome combo, and a genre they've kinda reinvented themselves per se. And Ball & Biscuit.... what a track! I got the new album yesterday, and to be honest, at first I was dissapointed, I was hoping for something heavier, but I'm sure it will grow on me, like most albums. Although, Blue Orchid and a track called Instinct Blues are great tracks.

It's a pity your taste in music doesn't venture outside Queen
It actually does. I'm a big admirer of these artists...
The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Pink Floyd, Michael Jackson, Guns N' Roses, Elton John, Metallica, Billy Joel, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, U2, Depeche Mode, Muse, Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots, Black Sabbath & Ozzy Osbourne, George Michael, Nirvana, AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Alice In Chains, Def Leppard, The Cranberries, Alanis Morissette, The Eagles, Simply Red, R.E.M., Velvet Revolver, No Doubt, Fleetwood Mac, Heart, Green Day, R.Kelly, Foreigner, Roxette, Genesis, The Cars, Pet Shop Boys, Colective Soul, The Clash, and even ABBA.
And I'm quite keen of the newcomers like... Franz Ferdinand, Keane, Evanescence, The Killers, and Jet.
I'm just tired of these "promising acts" being nothing but a bunch of overhyped acts, and being praised the same music critics who think that Queen was a second class band.

Couldn't have said it better myself :)
Please tell me, how are they over-hyped?
It's not music critics who voted three of these bands albums in the top 100 albums ever. It isn't music critics who sell out Wembley stadium, who buy millions upon millions of CD's.
It's fans of these bands, who think they are very fucking talented individuals.
Just because they don't fit into your styles, doesn't mean they are shite. I detest the Foo Fighters and think its basically just a pile of noise, but you don't see me jumping on other threads (one which in the opening lines said not to) and dissing bands which people are trying to discuss, and at the same time, maybe broaden their taste in music.

I have to admit that at some extent Oasis and Coldplay have achieved something. I might not like them, but I have to recognize that they're strong album sellers. ...or at least were at one point.
The White Stripes on the other hand remains a cult band that critics just can not stop talking about how they're the best thing since The Beatles, while their albums hardly get past silver and gold records, and their live shows don't even sell out a 10.000 small arena.
As I mentioned before 'Seven Nation Army' is an excellent song, but the rest of their work is just flat out boring and unappealing.

Oasis, Coldplay, Shakira, and The White Stripes have their albums coming out the same day.
That should break the record for most shit albums being sold in one day since N*SYNC released 'No Strings Attached'.
What's wrong with Oasis? and coldplay? and white stripes?
OASIS
By now they've run out of Beatle songs to rip-off, and they've just faded away since their first 2 albums. They were never good in the first place. There's no doubt that The Gallagher brothers are better entertainers when they beat the crap out of each other.
THE WHITE STRIPES
Without a doubt the most overated band on earth. I remember listening to 'Elephant' and although I have to admit that 'Seven Nation Army' and 'The Hardest Button to Button' are superb songs, the rest of the album is a pile of crap.
COLDPLAY
The least bad out of the 3, but as Yoda would say... fuckin' boring they are.
Right On Jingles! Ca't stand all 3 bands and I agree with all you said. I am SO tired of all the criticla hype on these 3 bands. They have no discernible talent to me, and get more attention for:
Oasis-The Gallagher Brothers slagging the entire music world, their infighting, brawling.
White Stripes-Are jack & meg husband & wife, brother & sister, do we care? Jack's beating the crap out of the poor guy from the Von Blondies & anyone else who looks at KJack the wrong way. Meg's boring banging on drums like a kid hitting a grbage can.
Coldplay-U2 wannabes with heads MORE inflated than Bono, sulky/whining/pretentiosly written songs, Chris Martin intentionally getting more hype and attention for the band by marrying Gwyneth Paltrow than for the band's music.
Oasis, Coldplay, Shakira, and The White Stripes have their albums coming out the same day.

Actually I should scratch off the new Shakira album, because it's actually kinda good. The first single 'La Tortura' is one of the worst songs ever, so it made me start listening to the album with very low expectations. Then I realized that it was actually a quite decent album if you put aside that shitty torture of a song.
Much better than her over commercialized and Britney like pop from her cross over album 'Laundry Service'.
I've never heard of a cult band that no-one likes headlining Glastonbury the biggest music festival around.
Oh yeah, that shows just how much you know.

2005 music?
Well, I don't listen to a whole lot of new music other than Queen and also Japanese anime (also can be called J-POP) music.
Most stuff released these days is just commercial pop crap.
What *I'M* looking forward to this year, music wise, are the new CD's (*and DVD's) coming up from:
Fefe Dobson
Queen + Paul Rodgers
I'm also looking forward to Linkin Park's new album coming out in 2006 (assuming it DOES come out, what with their current situation with the Warner Bros. record label)
Otherwise, I'm mostly focusing my attention to Japanese anime DVD's, CD's, and "Manga" books (a.k.a. "comics" for those Japanese-challenged, even though the term "comics" is insulting)

- You gotta remember, dude, that this is your opinion, not everyone else's. Keep in mind that there are people that the White Stripes appeal to and just because they don't appeal to you, doesn't mean they aren't good.
I have only heard one album by the White Stripes and I liked it well enough. I liked it enough to perhaps buy more of their work anyway.
Oh, and Jack and Meg were married, but are now divorced...

Over here, in the Netherlands Coldplay's A RUSH OF BLOOD TO THE HEAD is voted #2 album. Ever.
Now how has this album been influential to any artist or musical direction. It can be a fun album to listen to, but come on. Best ever? I think not. #13 also has a coldplay album. The whole list can be found here: http://www.3fm.nl/page/hitlijsten/Hemelse%20100/2005-05-06
So, they are bloody popular, by making very easy to chew pop/rock music, which will not stand the time as did some real classic albums (I predict, although I can be wrong). But anyway's, this type of music (Britpop/rock) is very popular at the moment, and will be over in a couple of years (lets say 5). Popularity does NOT equal quality.

PLUS- recently ppl don';t buy the things they think are good- ppl buy things they are TOLD are good. All you need right now to sell is a huge record company behind you and you will have asucccess. OF COURSE- I'm not talking right now about lets' say "definite Maybe" or something like this, but... C'mon- it's definitelly not one of the best albums EVER! In 20-30 years time it's not going to make top20, you can have my bet on it. willem-jan is right- the music is accesible, easy to listen, repetitive (I somehow can't tell one Oasis song from another). Because of this feeling of familiarity- it's popular. Nothing bad with that at all. Just entirely not my cup of tea. And although I do think as well this is a good year this 2005- it wouldn't be worse if Oasis and Coldplay DIDN'T release their albums...
PS
New AUDIOSLAVE is going to be a killer!!!
Definetly Maybe was released ten years ago, and it still stands the test of time today. I'd but What's The Story in my top 20 albums, period. I think A Rush Of Blood will go down as one of those albums to be rememebered. It's not quite like OK Computer, but it's close. Coldplay are influencing bands today, no doubt.
Britpop has been around since the mid 90's. Most of the bands around now are follwing from 80's Joy Division, The Cure etc so hardly a passing phase.
I certainly go for quality music and wouldn't ever be swayed to buy a CD buy someone's opinion. If that was the case I'd hardly be a huge Prince fan in the UK.

Very few new bands that I find appealing.
The Darkness-people think they are a joke, but actually like them in a serious way.
Velvet Revolver-twice the band that G N R ever were/will be.
Jet-Dunno why, just like em a lot.
Dragonforce-Maiden/Priest fan? www.dragonforce.com
Porcupine Tree-Floyd fan?
Majority of prog bands from the past 10 years.
Indie bands=shit
