Same here!

Me too! Although I'm looking forward to listening to the all acoustic disc more than the all 'rock' disc. (Reviews and early b-sides suggest that the 'rock' disc might not have much more to it than a lot of thrashing about, whilst the acoustic songs will have that much more depth and intimacy. And John Paul Jones, too).

Thought I'd also throw up a few names that have not been discussed yet:

Weezer - 'Make Believe'. Rivers Cuomo is back to writing great power pop songs from the heart (rather than the cold, calculated and bursts of rock that let down their last two albums. And no calling it 'Emo'!) Even if the lyrics of songs like 'My Best Friend' and 'Pardon Me' border on the inane, there is enough in the way of melodic genious (Perfect situation), catchy vocal hooks (Beverly Hills), deft song dynamics ('Haunt you everyday') and, well, daftness with a point ('We are all on Drugs') to take any listener out of their Brain and into pop-rock paradise for 50 minutes. Yup, when Weezer are good, it's like having the best bits of the Beach Boys, Cheap Trick and Nirvana combined.

Billy Corgan - I expect the 'futureembrace' to be a lot like the Zwan album i.e. lots of sunny optimism, jangly guitars, great rock rhythms. As long as he can keep the religious overtones in check, this will be a belter.

Stevie Wonder - 'A Time 2 Love'. Okay, okay, I know he is at least 25 years past his peak. But this one has a lot of promise, based on the tracks I have heard. 'So what the Fuss' for example, is a fine fresh, witty slice of funk, and the title track is a cool lounge ballad. (the new single 'From the bottom of my heart', though, reeks of 'I just called to say I love you'. *Shudder*).
If you can't beat them with brains, beat them with bullshit

I'm crossing my fingers on that one. I'm a huge fan of Stevie Wonder and all I hope is that he doesn't do the same thing that a lot of classic R&B artists do by doing collaborations with rappers to appeal to a younger audience.

I hope he sticks to his usual R&B, Soul, & Funk.

An American liking Razorlight, cool!
How did you discover them? Didn't think they'd really got much coverage, unlike The Chiefs and Bloc Party who are doing alright.

I first heard about them supporting Queen at Hyde Park but my best friend had randomly picked up the CD one day as a complete impulse purchase, so I borrowed it from her. I think it's a really good album - and it's amazing to think about how many bands I've discovered from being a Queen fan!
Resistance is futile. You are now an orb.

That's funny, a lot of people say the same about Van Halen when MTV started constantly playing all those videos from 1984 .

Yes, I totally agree. But, Van Halens fan base, that people who know and own each album from 1978-1984, is bigger than that of Guns 'N' Roses, whereas the Gunners (would) sell out venues because of the songs on MTV.

There are 14, 000 members of an unofficial David Lee Roth forum called the Roth Army. This is the main unofficial DLR forum (its funny, because Spammy Haggis' main forum only has 750 members).

The only song that kids today might know of Van Halens (unless they have the albums) is 'Jump'. For GNR you have all the ones I mentioned earlier plus more.

we acn discuss whether Coldpaly is good or is it the Audioslave that matters, but...
we agree on one thing- this is a great year! :)

So far I don't think it's been so good.

2003 and 2004 were somewhat better.

I can't think of anything from 2003 and 2004 that can top last Dream Theater, System of a Down or Audioslave, sorry. It's already better in my book- and it's only half way through

I just listened to Weezer's new album, and it's pretty good.

One of the very few albums of 2005 that I can actually consider good.

I didn't want to like Weezer's Beverly Hills, but it's just so damn catchy. One of those stupid songs that get stuck in your head.
M
The first time I heard 'Beverly Hills' I thought it sucked and I was dissapointed. Now I find myself singing along to it. I decided to give 'Make Believe' a listen from the Itunes sample and it's a great album.

I just ordered it online.

That's exactly the same way I was about that song. I think there must be subliminal messages in there somewhere!
M
'Beverly Hills' might not be a classic but it's a good song. There's a lot of catchy songs that even if they seems like crap you can't help but liking them.

I have to admit with a lot of shame that the drum beat to 'Hollaback Girl' is very catchy, but the lyrics to the song are probably the worst pile of shit I've ever heard.

We all know that Queen (except for Brian) weren't the best lyric writers. Yet, compared to Gwen Stefani, Queen was like Bob Dylan when it came to lyrics.
