To Queen fans,
It is too bad that many gay people do not appreciate Freddie in the way that they they should. For instance, they are always acting like Cher and Barbra Streisand are so great, even though they are not even gay. Why don't they praise one of their own? Meanwhile, they refuse to recognize Freddie as a great musician and entertainer. Instead, they act like Madonna, who has very little musical talent, is so great instead.
It is so obnoxious to hear gay guys criticize Freddie for "not being openly gay". Since when was Freddie not open about this? I can cite three different quotes where he flat out admits it.
Are there any gay fans on this forum who would like to share their experiences/thoughts about this?

To be quite honest I think Freddie himself didn't knew what he was. Sertain times he would have a girlfriend, but even more often a boyfriend. And he was always in love with Mary.

Moreover, I am a woman and Queen do not even have a woman in their band. Should I not listen to Madonna or Blondie instead?

I heard that he never said the whole truth because of his parents who were deeply religious.
BTW I also noticed that there's a little aversion of Freddie in the gay community. My friend (he's bi) says for example that Freddie had played "the gay thing" to the extremes. He had fullfilled all the bad stereotypes (promiscuity, dreesing in drag, leather outfits etc.). It made the everyday of 'normal' homos very difficult.

Yeah. Some gay people who just want to lead a normal life might not identify with Freddie because he lived the gay scene to the extreme. So some of them might not see him as their best representative.
everyone has own music taste,and it is not based on sexual preferences e.g. straight should listen to straight and gay should listen to gay.I think it was very clever that freddie left this kind of space for conjectures,because it is business and as long as it is showbusinnes it was his job to be in some cases a man of extremes,he let himself for what some of his fans could only dream of,and stars are to make people's dreams come true ,that's why there are idols,and fans.

I love Freddie. He had an excellent voice and excellent songwriting talent, not to mention the unique way he performed on stage. It could be argued that he was as flambuoyant as he was because he was gay, but I don't like him because he was gay. I like him because he is THE GREATEST SINGER WHO EVER LIVED. Don't even bother to argue with this statement.

I don't think loyal2freddie is implying gay people should listen to Queen because Freddie Mercury was Gay or whatever he was, at all.

gay people are just human beings with their tastes, so being gay doesn't mean strictly appreciating anyone who's gay.
concerning some gay's reproach about freddie's blurred outing, I think it was part of his fierce defense of his private life not to talk about what he did between sheets, so it comes that at least in case of women or men lovers it behaved the same .
