I didn't even had the nerves to read all posts of this topic, but even those I have were far too much.. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. It's hillarious in the first case, but also sad how you people are full of stereotypes and prejudices. Sorry to disappoint many of you who are constantly trying to generalise things (in this case that all or most gay people have the same musical taste). I have more than a few gay friends who listen to METAL. I mean how's this possible??!?? Metal is not for gay people!!! (I hope you'll be able to see the sarcasm in these last two sentences). Rubbish and load of shit. Also most of them actually love Queen - and BIG SURPRISE AGAIN - not because Freddie was gay but simply because Queen made a hell of a great music.

I'm attracted to guys (and I don't mean the biological ones), and *I* consider Freddie Mercury my hero. Loads of gay people, having been/being in the closet would not bitch just because Freddie didn't announce he was gay every two seconds. The GLBTQI community is about visibility but there's no law saying "If you're queer, you must be an out, flaming femme man or a butch, flannel-wearing bull-dyke. Also, you must all listen to techno and dance music (which I also love) and Melissa Etheridge and KD Lang respectively." There's no law saying gays /have/ to like certain music or music artists. That's like telling me I can only listen to this rap artist http://www.katastropherap.com/ just because I'm FTM like he is.
Just because you happen to appreciate the music of one gay man does not mean that you're an authority on queer issues and know entirely what goes on in the community. To put it bluntly: Don't assume anything. You go on ahead and let people have their own opinions about music.

who cares what he was as that clearly doesn't matter, all of us are human beings....some male some female some straight, some not so straight....some homosexual....some have dark hair....some are white,black,etc. whatever...............and anyone not appreciating his music and performances clearly has a lack of musical taste....
as for him not revealing himself earlier due to business sense I think is true.....their career in North America took a nose dive once people suspected....and then confirmed that he was something other than straight.......'85 and Mr Bad Guy was probably the first time it was completely obvious.....otherwise you could always guess at it..........personally I think he should have just kept the guessing game going.....as even with sitcoms on tv when the two individuals actually get together it takes the fun and interest out of it....................the press were pretty much in the know but couldn't really get that out there fearing suits and repurcussions from the band....and I think the bigoted press hated Freddie partly because he was something other than straight and hated that someone like that could be so successful and arrogant about it....
