I read somewhere that every Thursday Freddie would go to his Mum's for tea and she would send him home with his favorite biscuits/cookies. Sounds like she really loved her son to me.
He may have gone to boarding school etc, but he turned out to be a very intelligent man and quite independent, which is the whole purpose of sending children away to school in the first place in my opinion...to develop independence.

Not trying to be a sarcastic asshole, but you seem unable to realize that one's morals are largely determined by the generation from which they come. And that doesn't make them bad people, just different than you and me.
