jim did not tell freddie he was hiv positive, he did not want him to know, peter freestone commented in a later interview that he was on a drug cocktail and is doing fine at this point.

What I was thinking...does it really matter any more? I mean, 15 years after the fact that he died because of it, and god only knows, and who fucking cares how many years before he had it, the point is, he had it, and he died. If he happened to pass it along to Jim Hutton, well, then...who cares! I dont mean to say that I dont care that people have this disease because I do, but its completely irrelevent to here and now. I feel bad that Jim Hutton has it, but is that relevent? Not really.

The gene that you where talking about is delta 32..When youve got 2 delta 32 genes you cant be effected with hiv...And with one gene Aids is develloping a lot slower!..

Actually, it takes about 10 years for the HIV virus to develop to meet the full definition of AIDS. He was diagnosed in 1987 not with full-blown AIDS but the phase right before it. So, it could have been as early as 1978 when Freddie contracted HIV.

Guys i think it's an interesting and important topic, not because we want to explore Freddie's private life.. Just.. You know, the fact that he died of AIDS made me always really confused, because, though Freddie was a true artist and "dreamer" as he called himself, but i never considered him as a fool, never thought that he would do sth..crazingly reckless and deadly. So i always wondered why it happened?? I didn't know that AIDS was recognised just in 1981. If he knew that unprotected relationships can be so dangerous, it would never happen. So the biggest tragedy of this is not that he died of AIDS, but that he died so unexpectedly and from a little known, brand new fatal disease:S GOsh people can you imagine what a horror it is to find out you have a disease that even hasn't got a name yet and nobody knows how to cure it :/

I thought it was a lovely book that Jim wrote. I can understand why Jim would need to put his feelings down in words as he went from sharing his life with an amazing person, to being left out of most things when Freddie had gone and being on his own with the awful disease. It was sad to hear of him standing outside Freddie's gate with all the other fans just to feel near Freddie and wanting to see the cats he had looked after. He seems like quite a genuine person. I was looking forward to reading this and wasn't disappointed.
