They didn't top either of them, they just rereleased them both at once.
Having said that, the guitar work is superb.

I'm listening to it for the first time right now - it's great! Just a bit trying on my short attention span, but otherwise, it's awesome, and I can't wait until they come here in concert!

Hmmm. Doubt it, though.

RHCP have degraded from a good rock group (up to and including 'Californication') to a bunch of commercially-minded sell-outs.

Kind of like Queen then?
I love Stadium Arcadium - especially the solo on 'Readymade'.
I personally think it's their best stuff since blood sugar... Flea seems to be coming back to the forefront slightly after toning it down on the past two albums.
I can't wait for the 2nd July - seeing them at the Ricoh Arena!!!

Whats wrong with having hits??
I am not a Metallica fan in the least.... but the only thing of theirs I can even remotely hack is from the black album to present day.....
Metallica's old chain saw, train wreck, rape a monkey, sacrifice a goat, every song sounds the same and weak ass Kirk Hammett's lame Eddie Van Halen wannabe tapping leads....make me say HOW THE FUCK DID METALLICA EVER GET SIGNED??
By 1991's Black album....Metallica said.. "Why don't we make a album that is heard by more than just 17 yr old pot smokers who live in their mom's attic"..... they hooked up with Bob Rock, and thats their best album to date.
Chili peppers have some commercially sounding hits on this cd??
Sweet, I'll go out and buy it.... if Queen, Elvis, and the Rolling Stones never had any hits, then no one would have ever heard of them...and there would not be a place like Queenzone.
Bands...bring on the hits!!

How have they sold out? All the Red Hot Chili Peppers elements are still there... spicy lyrics, and a funky sound mixed with alternative rock. That's the Chili Peppers we all love.
Regardless of this non-sense allegations of "selling-out" people like Red Hot Chili Peppers far a lot more than Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, and all that other crap you listen to.

Queen have "sold out" way more than the RHCP. I don't get that comment at all, especially if it's regarding their sound. I'd venture to say the Foo Fighters are falling victim to becoming "commercially sounding." I love the Foo's, but "Best of You" is mediocre radio rock, IMO.

And we still love them
And we still love them
TQ has been eating too much sugar
Im suspicious whenever people say this is the best album since.... like a week or two after it comes out.
Im not a big Chili's fan - theyre ok, but my point is, almost all albums seem great on the first few listens. Very few retain legendary status for very long though - time will tell.
If youre still listening to it lots in six to twelve months, and still saying its a return to form a la BSSM, then maybe we'll see.
Im certain people thought Hot Space was awesome for a week or so...or maybe less, lol.
Although I do have a soft spot for HS. hehe.

I bought it the day it was out! Big chillies fan here! Though it is their worst album to date, it is still fantastic! I prefer the Jupiter CD and my favourite song is Hump de Bump! Damn funky song..I was afraid it was going to be a terrible album, because Dani California is a shit song.
