My GOD, why are you all getting your knickers in a twist (love that expression) over this!!! Everybody, including you Mr. Brooks, if that IS you, LET IT GO AND MOVE ON!!!!!! If you dont like us here, and there are no nitty gritty threads that you could sink your teeth into, the kind you apparently want, go find them somewhere else and stop caring about us. You put to much on some peoples opinion over the damn internet.

I did. Answer is the same. If you want to ask us about something - let's do it. Can you expect a respect from us? Yes, you can.
But look, if you come on QZ for once during the year as you wrote few times although "We KNOW there are GREAT EXPERTS on QZ" - it's strange, isn't?
So just ask us and give us chance to ask you something too.
P.S. Just a quick example: http://www.queenzone.com/queenzone/forumnew/forum_topic_view.aspx?Q=791888 - I can't give the exact answer on that question, you can - I'm sure! - so do it! And they will respect you...[/QUOTE]
I was about to ask the same question about "You´re the Only One" demo.
Let´s wait for an answer.
But there´s one think that we should try to change at queenzone, it´s the amount of hate that some people put one their replys. I´m not even talking on this particulary episode about GB and Queenzone, but since the day Queen has decided to tour with Paul Rodgers that there has been a lot of hate on this board.
Sometimes, a good thread is put to discussion but it´s indeed rare these days.
I like Queenzone, but as Greg said, some experts don´t come here because they feel it´s useless to "win" an argue on this site. Now, were´re being told this, so what are we going to do about it? Let´s try to change something, instead of that "i´m honoured to be a Queenzoner" and if you don´t like why bother to reply!?
I think the only thing these days that´s worth check on Queenzone is the sharing section, i mean God bless Queenzone for that!!- Really, we´re probably the best Queen sharing site on the Internet (that i´m aware of), but in the future if we don´t change nothing, most experts don´t even reply on this board and this will be a kids place arguing about Queen.
I really think this is a good oportunity to try to change the rules, and if Greg is on Queenzone again and is willing to answer some questions, then this can bring other real experts on this board too.
The inpression i had when this discussion started was the same as Greg, and i´m sorry to say, but i thought:
"We complain everytime about not being consulted for the queen products, and when they finally ask the fans to help, we do this..."
I really don´t know what´s behind this "war" in the first place, so, i understand that everyone has good reasons to behave like that, and i´m not judging this person ot that person!
I´m just saying - let´s change something- because it doesn´t feel good anymore.
Take care

Another tricky situation, right? I know that there's been some bad blood in the past between GB and Queenzone. But yes, I think the Queen Archivist can ask a serious Question over here and get respectful replies but I don't think he should be treated any different just because he is the Queen Archivist. This board, being unmoderated, can be used for many good or bad purposes. There are many good, intelligent Queen gurus over here and eventhough I think one or two of them (maybe both) could do a terrific job as Queen archivists, Greg is the official one. But we have to think about WHY do some people think so highly of these posters and so negatively about Greg Brooks.
First of all, they are always open for dialog and discussion. Those ultimate collections by John S. Stuart or the Live Killers era threads by Sir GH, or Mr Scully's extensive information about Queen's concertography were built upon knowledge and research by them with the help of other people. Serry (another reliable source and good poster) listed some of other posters which are highly regarded as knowing their Queen stuff and being always willing to discuss.
Mr. Brooks' earlier posts (I mean, back when he was GB) came out as being highly offensive to some people. This was this board's first impression of you, Mr. Brooks. You have to admit that you were not nice that time. Ever since, yes, there's been a negative preception of your attitude towards criticism. Let's not consider the usual Internet board bitching that comes and goes without moderation, in which you made the mistake to respond to.
I particulary believe that this time that you came to this board you could have been more mature and take the negative comments lightly and try to focus on the good stuff. There ARE many Queen experts here and they are not Internet trolls (that I know of) or geeks and they don't have "sad lives", they just love Queen to bits. You should concentrate on that and ignore negativity by other posters (which is, by the way, increased by the way you address them). Many of the Queen gurus over here are not posting a lot because your topics usually start as a rant and end up being a waste of space.
I really hope we could start over and get something positive about this. If I had some of the information you request I'd put it over here hoping that you could comment about it and see your perspective as Queen's official archivist. But in order to make this the bitching has to stop or maybe you can try to be the bigger man and ignore it for the sake of a good positive discussion.
The answer to your question is: "Yes, the Queen archivist can ask a serious question expect respectful answers" but only if the Queen archivist is willing to behave in a mature way. You, of all posters, have an extra responsability because you are related to Queen Productions. You can't just lower yourself and pick on other people. I'm not sure if this is the right expression, you might get the idea that you are somehow superior and you are not. Some of those replies might be justified because they insulted you in some way, but YOU HAVE TO BE THE BIGGER MAN. If you had reacted differently in the past, you would be highly respected. Just think about it, you could have recieved 1700 helpful emails, not 170.
If we are all willing to do this, we could have some very interesting discussion over here. Maybe your posts could even get their own space, if considered useful. But at the moment, sorry, they are crap.
Stop the bitching... Think!... THEN discuss. I know it's possible.
Sorry for the long post.

If you want ideas for an album, first note that we are getting sick of compilations. Then maybe make a thread asking for ideas for one.
I read somewhere that a B-side album would be a good idea.
Why not make an album of songs that didnt make the previous albums?

Okay people... This is getting childish both ways. Come on, let's shake hands and make a brand new start.
Both parties were wrong. Some very right posts above. INCLUDING GB's post - he is right about the atmosphere on this board. This used to be a great board with a lot of expertise, creativity, wisdom and sence of humor even. And now indeed it has turned into a kindergarden with a lot of negative vibes most of the time.
Then again I also have to agree on most Wiley said.
Taking the Singels Collection box set to come: maybe we COULD try to work together. Try to make it a constructive thing - together we could come to something higher which could make both parties happier. Imagine how much fun it would be if we could manage to actually make the BEST out of the box set by working together?
Because I personally I am quite excited about the set. As a 'music'-collector I've always been critical about the content of new releases, but I think that it is great to finally get all those tracks in remastered cd-quality. (And hopefully a NEW single! Take Love anyone??)
Also as a record-collector I look forward to a hopefully beautifully packaged piece.
An idea?
Greg, are their any ideas on the packaging of the box yet?
Would it be a nice idea, if the purpose of the box set is to contain ALL Queen's singles, to include images of actually ALL those singles. But I of course mean all the different picture sleeves available. To give the whole set an 'definitive' feel.
Most images are already in QP's archives, of course. But I know that in here there would be several people that could help provide images of the REALY obscure ones.
...did I pass in trying to be upbeat and constructive... ? :-S

Greg, do a search for "Ultimate Collection" or for "Lester's Album Discussion" threads. Those are some serious discussions. Read over those and tell us we aren't fans, then get back to me.
edit: here are the links, just because the search function is sometimes tricky.
Ultimate Collection:
http://www.queenzone.com/queenzone/forumnew/forum_topic_view.aspx?Q=418110
Lester's Album Discussion (this links to the Jazz album, which is all I've gotten up to, but it contains links to other albums within):
http://www.queenzone.com/queenzone/forumnew/forum_topic_view.aspx?Q=687482
Enjoy.
edit 2: also, you never asked us what Queen's #1 singles were. You said that yourself. Now you're starting to contradict yourself. It was merely posted about on this board.
I'm willing to start a meaningful conversation and discussion with you if you're willing to not resort to childish namecalling and are able to provide good information. But how can we provide good information ourselves if there's such a clampdown on information? You said that you can't compromise the box sets with such information as what songs 'Don't Say No', 'Banana Blues', and 'Under Dispute' were working titles for. How can that information compromise the box set? Knowing that information, I won't suddenly say, "Well gee, now that I know that, I won't buy the box set!" Not at all - I'll actually say, "Well cool, now I can't wait to hear that version of the song." You do possess the knowledge to help make some of those threads you mentioned worthwhile and enjoyable. I think you'll find that if you loosen up a bit, we're actually a pretty good bunch who like to talk about Queen.

Hi Greg ,
As one Self employed contractor to another I hope your clients pay their bills better than mine do.
I think you were a little hard on people who don't fully understand the difference between a contractor and an employee but surely that's understandable as the Inland Revenue dont seem to either. In any case you are asking on behalf of the band and record companies so you are their representative here. They may not be able to sack you but they can terminate your contract.
Anyway we are all customers of your client ( you were one too once) and I know that my contracts all define abusive behaviour to my client's customers as gross misconduct which can lead to instant termination.
The customer isn't always right but ALWAYS deserves respect even when you do think they are an arse.
Yes you can ask and recieve sensible replies on here, many of us do. However as with your Q&A on Queenonline.com there is a low tolerance level for questions which the answer should already be available.
Your original message was lightheated and almost amusing - I believe that is how you intended it to be taken. Unfortunately as the Official archivist you are seen to have access to the resources which should contain the ultimate oracle about the band. QPL are a business and as with most businesses are responsible for their own record keeping. Whether they subcontract it out is another matter but you have access to what they have collected over the years. We believe rightly or wrongly that QPL have been careless with their own property, Master tapes have been lost, stolen, duplicated and sold without thought for future requirements. Many of us feel that we are being "ripped off", with compilation releases which rehash existing material (Greatest Hits, Platinum etc)
I know they are not your responsibility and you don't have any say in what actually hits the streets but choosing to stick your head above the parapet and say - I'm paraphasing here -
"HI guys, we want to sell you all the stuff you've already bought - again , but we want to make it look pretty . The problem is we don't actually know the truth about our own product"
doesn't make you or QPL look good.
I can't imagine any of my clients asking their customers for copies of records of what they were sold 20 years ago. It's surely embarrasing to admit that you're records are so crap that you don't know "in house".
If you were asking for photos from shows, personal anecdotes or pictures of privately autographed items then I expect you would have got a better response.
Sorry Greg but you're just the public face of a company that many of us are feeling disillusioned with. And maybe you recieved flak that wasn;t totally deserved, Hopefully this explains why (a little)

Your post was very upbeat and positive, jeroen. Nice, hehe :).
On the other hand, I don't think "Take love" should be on that box or for that matter, anything with Paul Rodgers' input. Maybe the new single could be an unreleased or reworked track with Freddie on vocals. Maybe that song that was eventually recorded by Anita Dobson (don't remember its name). I know this is not supposed to be a rarities set but you could pick the best (as in "more commercial") unreleased track and include it in the box.
Knowing Queen Productions, there will be a "Best of the box" compilation type of album (as the 3 disc Freddie set) and I think it could be quite successful. More so if it included a new single with Freddie in it. Remember the Beatles "Real Love" and "Free as a bird"?
I see Greg wants to know about Queen's #1 singles so maybe this will be the approach: the big singles box and an album with the #1's. But please, pretty please, NO 5ive, NO Wycleaf Jean. I kinda enjoyed those tracks but I don't think they should be in the box set. Just imagine about 20 minutes worth of 5ive's WWRY and the 5ive Megamix?? haha :)
The packaging HAS to be AWESOME! At least for the 10CD set. The Freddie set was beutiful but I think I'd like something different for the Queen one. I'll try to think of some ideas and get back to you.
See ya,
Wiley

You know those kids books with the pictures that spring out into little standup cardboard things? How's about a foldout Freddie. Yeah.
No but really - I miss 'inventive' packaging... my Mum had a copy of Alice Cooper's "School's Out" and the whole LP cover was this phoney school desk that folded out. It was the fucking best thing ever made.

GB, or whoever you are... I wrote this comment on your first thread...

We want old concerts & Rare unlreased material, i mean come on! And i do agree that GB shouldn't be expected to know every detail about Queen's #1's, ect., i have been a Fanatic for many of years, and knew Freddie, but i still don't know every damn thing about Queen, i wasn't in the band and neither was GB, and nobody has the time to sit all day and study Queen, and devote their whole life to Queen's discography, and Chronology. Just read things throughly before responding with hate mail about someone you DO NOT know personally. I don't know GB personally, i have met him, but i don't know exactly what everyone means when they make statements! Good day all, and try to refrain from flaming me for this, i have a life, so i really could care less what you write! :)
You see i actually stuck up for you! But now, i dunno what to think of you personally. Are you actually going to say i am NOT a true Queen fan? hahaha sure. I am here to tell you that i have more than likely been to more Queen concerts and have more documentation than your full of errors and non-complete 'Concert Book', than you or maybe anyone here on QZ, so for you to ignore someone who has taken your side and offered much constructive criticism and taken a chance of their fellow queen fans to flame them for sticking up for someone like you, i just don't understand how you can be the same person that i met back in 95! Because that person would know that if you ever downgraded or insulted me in person, the results would be devastating to that person. Honestly i could care less about you being the Queen Archivist, big fucking deal! I own and operate 2 separate I.T. And about your comment on "Self Employment", let me be the one to laugh my ass off at your obviously stupid answer to S.E! Number 1, you are NEVER you OWN boss! It may seem that way, but, NOT! Even though you have no immediate boss or manager, your client IS your boss! And if you want to argue with me, someone who has ran 2 multi-Million $ business' for years, then you are in fact the "Retard Archivist" Yes maybe i am being a little rude, but the world nor this site revolves around you! Your position in the whole Queen world does NOT in any way grant you the "big head" that you obviously have. I am not going to ever side with you after all of this, you call us childish when the fact of the matter is, do you see any of us taking the time to post a new whiney, and rude thread about you? Nobody cares about your silly full of errors and short cut Live book, or your stupid ass archives! Your position could be filled by just about anybody that can read! Before i close, i am not in any way trying to belittle you at all, just telling you to come down to earth and chill. You are employed by Queen or Queen Productions, and you need to just relize that, and WE are the ones who (as Brian once said) "Make the rocking world go round"! If it wasn't fo

Related business' and have a Master's Degree in Information Technology, and 18 different I.T. Certifications, and between both companies, i employ around 550+ employee's, so for you to talk shit saying that ppl here are 'ignorant', or 'sods' or whatever childish language you have used, you are one to talk!
This person can't possibly be the real Greg Brooks. If it is, he should be terminated from his work for Queen immediately. It's some of the worst fan interaction I have ever seen.
I'd be amazed if Gb's "job description" includes "maintaining a healthy reputation among Queen fans".
I also think that he has a point about the standard of contributor on this site. It's gone way down, but we're all too close to see it. I wouldn't exactly hold QOL as a bastion of Queen knowledge either, but that's possibly an argument to be had there.....
Greg, you can't win. You know this, the less brain-dead on here know it. But your work colleagues who browse the various Queen sites (a statement whose clear meaning has been overlooked by people in way too much of a hurry to have an argument) - do they really feel this site is significantly different in positivity to QOL?
There are clearly some knowledgeable people (in general terms) on BOTH sites. The problem is that your best course of action was to identify and contact those people, thus bypassing the lowbrow department.
Good luck.
PS I never saw Freddie live either. Please don't over-generalise.

Agree with P_G, you're seriously wasting your time quarreling with these peeps, and your attitude isn't helping either. Just find the real experts, avoid the wannabes and carry on. I wish you luck.
Now make haste.
