Just because we didn't hear it or see it in a public forum, it doesn't mean that he didn't send a message or tribute in his own style. You might want to consider giving Mr Deacon the benefit of the doubt on this one. He's more than earned it.

I agree with everything you say Togg!! :-)As a huge fan of John, I can understand why he didn't show. He has every right to enjoy his retirement without being in the limelight. I'm sure he celebrated Freddie's Birthday at home with his family.

John doesn't owe anything to Queen fans - he gave enough of himself when he wasn't retired. I can't believe people are still ragging on him after all this time. It's pretty sad.

Very poor organization - no "celebrities" at all (unless you count Jim Beach), no charity auction, fancy dress competition = 2 sentences about winners. NOTHING. Special programmes sold out immediately - limited edition (damn, I need one for my collection!).
The musical itself - not as bad as I thought. Poor storyline but some very good jokes in there. Enjoyed the show. Brian & Roger in BoRhap were cool. The best track from the musical is undoubtedly the instrumental WWRY fast - it ROCKS!
Queen set - very short, no surprises at all (why did B&R rehearse for hour and a half?) but perfectly suitable for this purpose.
Some of the costumes were amazing! (And embarrassing in the same time). Find some photos, it's worth it.
Overall a very good party. I definitely enjoyed it.

I saw the musical twice before (London and Cologne) and I never liked it much but Tuesday was not about the musical. On Tuesday the audience was a Queen audience and not a WWRY crowd and it showed. There was incredible screaming and singing and clapping - Brian said he never witnessed something similar and it could be true.
Before the show it was already an event to see all the people in costumes (even Mr. Scully dressed up but I won't tell you:) and the many familiar faces from the tour and conventions, for example our own Queen Archivist who walked the red carpet with all the other fans:) All of you made it an unforgettable night with many emotional moments.
There were various script changes to fit the occasion and I am sure I did not notice half of them not being too much into the musical but I am pretty sure the "It's A Beautiful Day remix" is not played as an intro routinely. At certain points the audience took over so that the cast had to wait until they could go on.
The first outcry was during the intro when the screen said
"September 5th Freddie Mercuy would be have been 60"
wow - no year and a Freddie spelt with a y ! A collective scream responded to this blasphemy.
Brian rose from the stage bottom for the BoRhap solo wearing an outfit that looked like his white and red outfit he used to wear on the Magic Tour and Roger appeared with his drum kit for the Rock section. Then Brian performed LOML and Brian and ("here comes my soul brother") Roger "Say It's not true". After a short speech by Ben Elton Bri/Rog joined the cast for TSMGO which finished the show. That was about 11 PM - so much for the "late" ending of the show Brian had announced on his website, good joke Brian :) - However, the fans kept on partying in various bars nearby. The German group collectively took a night bus to the airport at 3 AM to leave in various morning flights - see you soon, guys:)

DAMN! Im so jealous of you Scully and YV! Sounds like it went surprisingly well. Here in the USA we had our own little celebration starting with the Mercury play on the Cape, in which we celebrated the entire weekend (a large number of us about 35 people).
We also toasted him on September 5 a game which we play every year we watch videos and everytime FM is on camera we drink a sip of Kristal. Lots of fun especially after all there videos are over. Our party lasted until 4 AM EST.
We played "The Untold Story" as well. A lot of sniffling but a lot of great music and videos to have forever.
