If it were just The Police, I wouldn't have paid much attention to it, but it seems like the only top-level artists you can appreciate are Queen and (some) Pink Floyd.[/QUOTE]

I am in no way sad enough to recall all of the times when music has been discussed around you, but I believe you were not too happy about Tom Petty, nor Bruce Springsteen.

Tom Petty is plain boring. Springstreen is overated, but not particularly bad.

Newsflash: people like different kinds of music. Not everyone will like what someone else likes. Continuously putting down someone based on what kind of music they like makes you look stupid. Telling someone what they should and shouldn't like makes you look like a snob.
Newsflash: apart from the subjective, there is also an objective part to music. A pig having a go at a keyboard is not good music: therefore, Duran Duran rates as crap. A genius composition needn't be interesting to listen to; take Bach, for instance. However, when someone comes up and says that <X> is bad music, when that <X> produces music that is innovative and interesting on the theoretical and creative front, the person stating the slagging is guilty of being a musical moron, regardless of taste.
There are plenty of musicians I don't like, but whose genius I can appreciate. Take Ray Charles and J.S. Bach to name just two. Jingles should learn to do the same, as should certain others.

Caspar, no matter how educated musically you may be, you can't convince someone who likes Duran Duran that they're shit. Me, I happen not to like The Police, but like Sting. I can't explain why, there's just something I like about Sting that I don't like in The Police, but even if I knew the reason, I wouldn't tell anyone anyway. I like what I like and that's all that matters, and I'm not going to have some loudmouth jackass who thinks he knows everything about everything tell me what I should and shouldn't like and why I should or shouldn't like anything. You have your opinions and that's great, but you have to realize that your opinions are not facts, and that not everyone is going to agree with you.
