It's the same as programming bass lines instead of having John Deacon playing.
I'm strongly convinced that there is more "real drumming" that we think. They did work hard on their tracks. One day one song was not the usual way for Queen. Even in the later years.

It's pretty obvious on Hot Space, The Works and AKOM that machines were used a lot - or at least it sounds like it, and I can't see the point of trying to make 'real' drums sound like a machine.

By the way, I like the drumsound of the Hot Space era, especially the live-sound is my favourite drum-mix of Roger's.
