I havent been here in a while, but isnt the Montreal DVD the WWRY DVD? Are they re-releasing it again or something?

Not sure on all the dates, but you get my drift. They DO repackage shit. I have to admit, the WWRY edition and SCC suck ass. There are errors in the booklet and a total lack of photos. Pure shit.
Their last few releases have sucked. The ROTC dvd really had no extras. The cover 'art' was horrible. Lets face it, their creativity died with Freddie.
And now they are releasing Montreal 1981 for the 3rd time on DVD!!! What the hell are they thinking? What about Hammy 1975 or 1979? What about Houston 77 on cd? What about any of the 1981 South American concerts? What about Rio? I'm tired of all these damn 1981/1982 and 1986 concerts. I can't believe they didn't record any of the American dates last year. Geez!

So, am I right in saying that the only song on this release which has not featured on an official Queen live DVD is Let Me Entertain You, and everything there has been released on CD as a live track.
I really dont see the point in releasing this before other stuff - maybe eventually, but why now?
Although I'll buy it, I'll be praying for good extras, because personally Im only really interested in the concerts for more than one watch if theyve got a live version of a song never officially released - which is why Im desperate for a 70's release - so many great live versions of tracks which are sitting in the archives, while we have to listen to bootleg quality for stuff like It's Late and Liar etc etc.....

Somehow hearing that they're gonna do a CD set also just makes it more disappointing. Another big release opportunity wasted on stuff everyone already has.
And I just know that after they insist on PCM and DTS, the picture quality will be a downgrade. I do see that Eagle Rock has done a few Blu-Ray and HD discs though, so maybe they have that in future plans... of course it wouldn't be announced until everyone's bought the 'new' standard DVD.
Oh well. Like I've said before, I don't mind spending $20 on a "new" DVD and perhaps $15 on a "new" CD just to have something "new" to buy. But it is disappointing to see more of the same flooding the market, making something else even less likely.
I can just see Brian next year saying "Well folks, we had planned on XXXX being released this year, but it seems we've got too much stuff on the market at the moment and the companies involved don't feel it would be wise at this time. Sorry, It's out of my hands."

There is always the option to not buy it. I am not telling anyone to boycott the new DVD but I have done it in the past and it's a good feeling to free oneself from the compulsion to buy anything with the Queen name on it. For example, I did not buy the Freddie Tribute, it is only half the concert and the screen is cropped. I did not buy the ROTC DVD because I was just appalled by the promo and there was virtually no extra. I am not buying any CDs with copy protection that makes them sub audio CD standard. This reduced my CD purchases by 80% but I don't care - I am not spending my hard earned money on substandard overpriced products anymore. Sooner or later the music industry will get the message and realize that it's not the teenagers buying Crazy Frog who will fill their pockets in the long run - it's the music addicts who want a decent product for their money. If the customers do not get the message across, we will soon get all new releases as ring tones, only.

The way I see it, there are three basic alternatives at the moment:
1) We wait, we'll get a great dvd with lots of extras, and buy it happily
2) We wait, we'll get a lousy dvd with very few extras, and the completists are the only ones who will buy it
3) We voice our concerns early enough so Brian May can personally make sure we'll get a great dvd with lots of extras
I don't have enough faith in QP to think that option 1) is going to happen, so 3) is the only alternative that would achieve a positive outcome in my book.

I to wish that they would have waited with montreal, but the reasons for releasing it are perfectly understandable;
1; It has the best picture quality any Queen show will have
2: superb picture quality is naturally what they wanna put out first. when they run out of gigs shot in high quality, then they'll probably start releasing the older stuff (so expect budapest long before any hammersmith gig)
3: and last but not least; the audio mix of the we will rock you dvd is SHIT!!! it sounds like a live rehearsal. a new mix will do the show WONDERS - I bet everybody will love it once it is released
and I understand completely that they release gigs in the best possible quality before they start issue 70's show. I wouldn't mind houston, hammersmith and earls court with a few production flaws, but dvds with less than superb production will "only" be interesting to fans.
look at wembley, it continues to sell alot, and that is because it is appealing to music fans / dvd fans in general
I bet houston 77 wouldn't have been such a smash. not beacuse it is a bad gig (superb gig it is) - but production wise it's not up to standards - and potential dvd buyers would have been aware of that
example; I know alot of people who are not into Queen as such, but they like buying concert dvds to watch in a home theatre system. I have reccomended wembley to many of these mates, and all of them have loved it. and they have further reccomended it to their friends etc ( I know this)
now; I would have liked to reccomend the WWRY dvd, as I, as a fan,prefer it - despite the awful mix. I also prefer the MK show by far, but cause the picture quailty is not very very good, I don't reccomend it to the casual music fan

Of course, we would prefer to see something more obscure, like a 70s show, but we must realize that most Queen products aren't aimed at us. Most products are aimed at the casual fan. Most casual fans will not have this show so for them this is simply a great product. Heck, I don't even have this show, so I'm perfectly happy with it.
