What is Queen's worst album??

I say it's 'The Works'.

a) Only 9 tracks.
B) The band was at it's highest tension point and it slightly shows to a trained Queen ear.
c) Sounds to me like the most commercially conscious album of all, the construction of several songs seem to have a more intended purpose rather than a natural creative spark of music. Tear It Up and Hammer To Fall was Brian's attempt to rebel against Queen's recent sound developments by punching out two heavy rock tracks. Is This The World We Created? for Queen was to Live Aid what Say It's Not True was to 46664, a preachy developed song with a purpose. It's a Hard Life was a conscious attempt to rework and cash in on Bohemian Rhapsody, and Back Chat and Man On The Prowl felt like sequels to Another One Bites The Dust and Crazy Little Thing Called Love, their two biggest hits ever in the USA, and both prior to the off-putting Hot Space fiaxco.

That being said, The Works is still a classic masterpiece of music.


What album would you guys rate as their weakest?

Hot Space and The Miracle.

Another vote for The Works as worst album. For a "singles" album (a bunch of individual songs that can be placed in any order without much of a theme), Hot Space is at least more fun.

For gods sake: Hot Space definitly not! its just the prove to tell how queen can make every poor to good music. its not classic queen, but its very cool.
and the miracle: its one of the best rock albums. I want it all, kashoggis ship, was it all worth it, its not just breakthru or miracle (single).
Worst Album? There isnt one. just one, i do not here often. flash. but thats cool, too. but not good for every mood. ;-)

Greatest Hits III. some interesting points about The Works, tho I disagree imho, because many folks have already observed Queen were always a singles band, and Hot Space -- aside from the sheer brilliance of "Under Pressure" -- is a ringer. I would go so far as to say Queen Rocks is a better collection than GHIII.

I listen to The Miracle less than I listen to Flash Gordon, the period 1984-1989 is what I listen to least, mainly for me the best stuff is 1971-1977, along with The Game and Innuendo

The Miracle I think..

Hot Space is a really nice album I think, it's not as bad as everyone says

I was thinking about this the other day. I know that I play the works album the least, but I play songs from it relativley frequently, mainly Hammer To Fall, It's A Hard Life, World We Created and I Want To Break Free. The latter is one of my favorite songs (and my favorite video). When I listen to The Works, it feels rushed. But this is not due to the amount of tracks, as The Game has but ten tracks, and this is one of the outstanding Queen albums. I think it is because as others have said, it is was at the highest point of tension for the band. This does show, with tracks like Man On The Prowl, and Machines. These tracks have some good qualities, but they seem like they are simply filler inners. When I listen to this album, and the stress and angst in the band at the time, I cant help thinking that Queen did this album because they wanted to try and keep Queen alive. I remember John in an interview saying there was disapointment after the Hot Space album. So, in a way the works was trying to get back on their feet almost. This is not to say that it is a particularly bad album, it is far better than many albums of other artists at the time (as Queen were, and are the best). I like Freddies vocals and it has some of my favorite songs, but it does not compare to Queens other albums. Many people say that Hot Space was Queens worst, but I think that Hot Space is a different direction for Queen, and this is the reason it is attacked so much. Again, doesnt rate like Queens other albums, but it is a fun album with some good songs, particularly when played live.

But, when I say that, I do enjoy this album when I listen to it, so whilst I have a lot of ideas, but it is a hard one to answer. Even harder question though, which album is their best?
