Queen fans.....how you became a fan and what led to it?

There was a queen song (friends will be friends actually) in my english book back in 7th grade in finland, and i remembered that my mother has few albums of this band on lp. Well, i listened them ( actually they were: Sheer heart attack, Jazz, Hot space.)The songs that got me going, was brighton rock, and lily of the valley. Especially the later is still one of my favourites. I was stunned by the brilliant harmonies and Freddies great voice

christmas came, and i asked my father, could you buy me Queens greatest hits II. i didn´t know a single song on the tracklist, but my father said, "Oh look at that, there are some of my favourite songs in this album, sure i´ll buy you one !!"

When i got the cd, i realized that i had heard these great songs before never realizing the band was Queen. Bigger surprise came to me when i bought greatest hits I. It had so many good songs i had heard before, not knowing that it was queen.

BTW i now have some queen albums both lp and cd, and IMHO, some albums are better on lp than on cd.
Maybe cd is too polished for some rockers

Let's go back to 1997. On a hot summer day I was at my grandmother's attic. There was a bunch of crap on there belonging to my aunts and uncles and it was just really cool to play around there with all the old stuff.

On one day I found this black box with gold lettering... Inside I found 14 LP's! The lettering said Queen - The Complete Works (ofcourse :)).

I took it home without asking and played it on our old hifi set with LP player (if I remember well, the CD player was broken :P). I heard 1 song... Copied everything to tape (as I wasn't allowed to keep the box :() and since then that's the only music that's ever played here :)

I was 9 at the time it happened. The day . The begining of the rest of my life. Anyway I was bored and my only good CD's were Sclub 7, Avril, and Busted which I listened to way too much. So I was like "Hmm i bet daddy has CD's I could listen to" So I put on a Johnny Cash CD and I cried it was so awful. I put on Led Zep (which i love now btw) and I cried because it was too loud (hey i was only 9!) and then I saw it. The golden CD. The album by Queen "News of the world" and i put it in the player. I love all the songs so i found all my dads Queens cds and listened to them. My dad was sooo proud. That was 5 years ago and im still in love with Queen

i became a fan because of a schoolmate of mine named Garrett. we knew each other from 6th grade, but in 8th grade we shared the same Advanced Arts class, and one day he walked in before class began and told me all about how he bought the soundtrack to Highlander and Queen recorded all of the songs, but considering he was also into AC/DC, Judas Priest and Kiss, bands i'm not all that interested in, i figured Queen was some hardcore metal hair thrasher band. XD

but more than a year later i was at walmart with my mother to plow through the after xmas mark-down sales, and Queen's 1992 Greatest Hits caught my eye, and i bought it. didn't get into them til that following march, but i've been hooked since then.

Garrett got me into The Rocky Horror Picture Show as well...bless him.

I must admit I am a relatively recent fanatic of Queen...only heavily started listening to them last year.
My dad always liked AOBTD so I had grown up with that. I bought an iPod last year, and I had that song, WWRY, WATC, Bicycle Race, and Bohemian Rhapsody. I just loved Freddie's voice on Bicycle Race, it was so pure and amazing and hot. I also fell in love with Bo Rhap. I then got Greatest Hits from the library, ripped the songs, loved them and added some more. In the months following, I watched anything I could YouTube, maniacally did Queen quizzes, searched for info on websites, etc. I don't know what I would have done had I never listened to Bicycle Race!
