I'm not sure if I've explained this yet, but a lot of these AIDS posts being discussed were located in a "Queen's Biggest Mistakes" thread, and within a thread about a Freddie Mercury biopic. To start with, they were both full of total crap anyhow so I didn't think anyone would notice.
With the 'mistakes' thread, I realise now I made a big blunder. AIDS being one of Queen's biggest mistakes would entail them setting out to get AIDS and then regretting it.
What I really should've done is waited for a "Queen's Biggest Accidents" thread and then put it in there.
[QUOTENAME]Dusta wrote: [/QUOTENAME]Call me an idiot(or, gay, or, just type AIDS--I don't care), but, I don't get the humour. What makes typing,"AIDS," or, "Freddie takes it in the arse," humourous? You say it is a joke...and, I do have a sense of humour, it is just that, in this case, I am not seeing what the joke is.
Perhaps, if I understoon THAT much, I wouldn't be so offended.
What I am seeing is an obsession with Freddie's sexuality and manner of death, as it seems to come up in every thread, here, about Freddie, and, it seems to be the same few folks doing the bringing up. So, if not an obsession, what, then? And, if a joke(as you say), what sort of joke? I know magicians do not like to share the trick, however, I see no harm in a comedian(?) explaining the joke.
Hi Dusta
The point of my post was not to make a joke about homosexuality but about the trolls, fuckwits and generally baffled fans that post a thread entitled "Was Freddie Gay?" with monotonous regularity on Queenzone. The world and his wife knows perfectly well that Freddie was gay but every so often someone will ask that question just to annoy people.
The joke being that I ask the question "Is Freddie Gay" but I'm not talking about his sexuality. I just wanted to know if he was happy and carefree as in the alternative meaning of gay. Then I take it to the next level by asking a series of ridiculously outrageous questions that allude to his sexuality.
Now whereas I wasn't poking fun at the gay community in that instance, I dont think there's anything wrong about making jokes about homosexuals or even AIDS for that matter. I suppose it could be argued that someone who has, or knows someone who had died of AIDS might take offence but the very nature of humour means that you run the risk of offending someone.
I also think we should get out of the habit of being offended on someone's behalf. If a joke or comment on QZ offends you personally then by all means you have every right to pull that person up for it. I dont think its very fair however to berate someone for a joke or comment you think someone else will take offence at.
I dont know if anyone has picked up on this yet but our very own Inu Ligur has just left a comment on Greg Brook's latest rant about British people being rude. In it he explains how Edmonton is going to hell in a hand cart because McDonalds has a policy of employing idiots.
Inu Ligur says: "(young immature teenagers, very mentally or physically disabled people, foreigners still studying ESL, etc etc - you get the idea)"
No doubt someone will take offence at his comments but that's a fight for another day.
I hope our friends across the pond dont take any offence when I point out that the Brits and the Amercans dont share the same sense of humour. What some people in the UK find hilariously funny leaves Americans stoney faced and vice verce. I've already spoken about this on QZ recently but Jim Carrey and Jack Black are two examples of American humour that I just dont get.
Now I'm not saying that they aren't funny, it's just that they do absolutely nothing for me.
Well I've prattled on for long enough but I hope that's explained a few things for you.
fatty.

Fatty, I didn't say just McDonald's. I meant most all businesses here.
And I don't say shit like that to be rude 'cos I really want to, but it really is becoming almost fact here.
Until you've been to Alberta and experienced the degredated quality of what used to be real customer service overall, you won't fully realize what I and other people are dealing with here in our province.
A LOT of services have gone severely downhill in the last 2-3 years or so following the oilboom in Ft. McMurray which has drawn away most of our best workers here (mind you, also including a lot of high school dropouts, so it's not like they have fools working in that industry....but I'll be laughing when their jobs dry up with the oil over time, and they have no completed high school diploma to fall back on)
As a result, other industries are really suffering.
We have very few people entering the other trades that pertain to our real needs, like (affordable) housing for one.
And even those who remain in the trades, from what I hear, are charging a lot more money to get that sort of work done, but with lack of staff, it's taking longer to get things like house construction completed, and in the end it's no more affordable for those of us who are struggling to make a living here. It's the opposite really.
And don't get me started on the cost of renting apartments here. It is absolutely ridiculous.
Fuck. You really don't read well into what I say, do you?
Then again, anytime I mention McDonald's and other things in the same sentence, you guys love to conveniently forget the "other" bits and single out McDonald's to your advantage.
Shows how single-minded you lot are.

You're in Queenzone - the land of the single-minded, apparently. Get used to it!

This is why I love Queenzone. You post a silly wee joke and it turns into a debate concerning discrimination, cultural differences between Britain and the USA and the current economic crisis in Edmonton.
Okay Inu, this is why I quoted you.
Were having a discussion on what some people might find offensive and I think you'll find that your comments regarding handicapped people and foreigners could be taken as an indication that you believe them to be second class citizens who are unfit to put hamburgers into a paper bag. This might not be exactly what you meant but it's the way it comes across. Now there's a good chance that someone will take offence at your comments on behalf of the severley mentally and physically handicapped and you'll spend hours defending yourself while the real issue is soon forgotten.
As for the real issue, I haven't got the faintest idea what your talking about. From what I can make out you're complaining that the service industry in Edmonton is suffering because all the dumplings who couldn't get a decent paying job in Edmonton have gone to another town to work in the oil industry. This has left you running the Edmonton branch of McDonalds single handedly and your more than a little cheesed off by this.
fatty.

Ha!
The day I'm put in charge of that dump is the day I put out the new McCosmos burger.
Because you know Queen never can have too much promotion ;-)

Who's Queen?
Would this be an appropriate time for Chad Hanging to make his return to Queenzone?
That was a particularly unrigorous explanation of your sense of humor and ongoing shtick, Zebonka. Are you running out of gas? Might you be--shudder the thought--growing a conscience? Or have adopted a quality control system? An intelligence?
Zebonka, you can't have it both ways. When someone genuinely wants to know if your arse-fucking and AIDS shtick is funny, you could then follow up with "Why is it a joke?"
Love this quote:
"He did. That's basically what gay sex is. I must have not been paying attention on the day the UN ruled that gay behaviour was funny!"
So, you don't mean to be funny at all? So, you are not trying to be funny--you're not funny?
On that we can agree. We'll work on the misguided shmuck part.

re: a previous post in which you warn against people getting offended on behalf of other people, a practice, I think, that is a basic right of humans (watch Star Trek)
I want to be clear: I am and remain offended at Zebonka's idiocies and hate-mongering, and am all the more offended at his self-cloaking and contradictions. He's an idiot. Other people have backchannel emailed me to tell me they think so, too, and I encourage others to stand up to this bully who polluted Queenzone with his idiotic 7,000 posts

Oh yeah
So let me get this straight: you make non-joke AIDS comments that are ignorant, and although you have said in the past they have meant to be everything from satire to comedy, you now maintain they are not jokes, but real live straight-faced ill-advised homophobic comments?
Wow.
And you do this to get a rise out of people? Why don't you just sit back and watch, rather than try to justify it? Do you realize how utterly idiotic you sound?
But now I get it: This is your intent. To be an idiot. To confront people with your idiocy, then watch as the fur flies.
Well, I'll tell ya Zebonka. People don't take hate speech lightly. And you have set out doing it on the board of my favorite band, so you've just found an enemy for you all your fucking life.
Wow.

And I called you an "Australian" idiot not as a joke, just as a statement. You're an Australian, and you're an idiot. I'll try your idiotic tactics: It's just a statement!
(Hardly the same as making wide, sweeping statements about gays and AIDS, by the way. But if your nationalistic cockles are raised, why not raise them?)
